Pretty much everything past 3 ruins the franchise and the allure of Big Boss being a legendary American Hero turned villain.

I would even say you could put number 3 at one. One of the few game to deliver on the hype.

Anything portable is pure garbage.

I don't know how anyone likes 5. It actually has less gameplay mechanics than 4 and works against the player to try and make itself as tedious as possible. There's nothing fun about running across an empty desert to get to a mission that's almost exactly the same as the previous mission you did. The way health regen works now and the lack of rations also completely destroyed and reason to explore and be stealthy.

I know people rage about whether 4 or V is the pit of the series, but I'd rather have a Metal Gear game that is so full of MGS charm it goes full retard rather than one that has none. V will eternally be the biggest disappointment for me.

4 at least tried to be a Metal Gear game. V is basically a soft-reboot of the franchise. Yes, 4 had a ton of really poor moments, both in gameplay and story, but as an overall experience it does much more that V could even dream to do. 4 is a climactic finale with a lot of stupid unnecessary moments, whereas V just feels like a waste of time with the only thing saving it being decent gameplay. I'm not arguing that 4 isn't a really mediocre game, I just think V is worse.

Switch pandora with double agent 6th gen version and this is perfect.

People do complain about needing to change camo, I've seen it. It's retarded though because brush or w/e it was was the best for like 90% of the game. Plus there were bonus ones in Subsistence iirc that were overpowered. Plus some of the camos had neat attributes, only complete spergs didn't like that aspect.

Does anyone feel bothered by the fact that TPP does not let you climb trees? You could in MGS3, and V was supposed to reinvent the stealth gameplay for good.

2+3 were both masterpieces that hold up today, 1 was amazing when I first played it but not as good as the sequels, 4 had some great stuff but a lot of stupid and boring shit as well as an embarrassingly bad plot, 5 has fun core gameplay but it's mostly just rehash missions with the most uninteresting video game plot ever, PW is just bad.

You're not wrong, but I think the good moments in 4 can be some of the best in the series. The problem with V is that it doesn't even try at all. The best I can say about it is that it had one or two good ideas.

I want to clarify that PW is actually my least favorite in the series, and that's the only one I would consider downright bad. Maybe I'm too forgiving with this series.

Yes but it would only be useful if the overworld wasnt empty. Like using the tree to hide from the endless patrols of soviets.

2 is exactly the same as 1 and 3 though, the cinematics break up the mission with characterisation or action parts. No extended briefings and famfiction.

Regardless of whether you played the MSX games or not, including them on a ranking list is like including NES Zelda on a list ranking the best 3D ones. While you can clearly see the influences and foundation for the series, the older games are very different experiences. I'm not saying they're bad or that they have ages poorly, I just mean that it makes some sense to exclude them from the ranking of the Solid games.
