Where's chad daddy when you need him?

in our hearts

How's do the key's work?

Peripherals have been a thing since the first console, Nintendo is merely producing them on a budget.

The N64 had a peripheral?

Yes and many of em

oh I only had a PS1 m8

right joycon has a depth sensor and can instantly detect which key has been pressed down apparently

Must be a tight budget if they have to use cardboard boxes.

what is the appeal of this? I'd rather do nothing that do any of the things shown in this video. Is this the kind of videogames normies play?

Clearly something made for little kids, and the presence of what appears to be Project Giant Robot means that this is what Miyamoto's probably been up to as of late, meaning he won't be sticking his nose where it doesn't belong. They should have used something more durable than cardboard, especially if it's something for little kids.

This is pretty cute. Hopefully kids won't destroy it too fast.

did you never have a childhood afternoon building lego's or bionicle? it's the same premise just with a screen & peripherals

it's CARDBOARD m8 it won't last a week at most

just print off new cardboard

I could see something like Virtual On or another Ape Escape

HEY
Are you a LABOY?

I mean, tech-wise this is a cool little idea. I assumed the IR tech in the joycon was only able to do essentially waggle shit like 1-2 Switch's sandwich eating, but apparently it can be precise.

Long as this stuff doesn't take over half of their E3 and get shoved into significant games, I can see it as a unique little niche for kids to enjoy.

I'm pretty sure E3 is going to have at least a full day of treehouse showing new cardboard shit.
Which sucks because it will take from a the chance to have akiko kuroda play bayo 3

>Sup Forums is legitimately assblasted about a product aimed at children
lol

I wonder if the cardboard itself has anything like senors or chips on it?

I think it's just reflective tape for the keys, though come to think of it they might want to put in some basic wiring so you can charge the damn thing at the very least.

>charging cardboard

user...

>the fishing line that can actually extend out
What?

That's a rubber band. It doesn't move and doesn't change position. The IR sensor on the Joycon will sense when it's rotated and that is what tells the game how much the in-game fishing line should be reeled in. The rubber band is pretty much only there for show and to make it look like a fishing line.

Apparently, the backs of the keys have a reflective surface or tape. When the keys are pressed, the other side inside the box can be seen by the IR sensor. It then tells the game which note(s) to play.

>im fucking plying anything is comparable to bionicle

>saying gay ass jap carboard is in the same league as bionicle

What the actual fuck is this shit?

It's a neat thing for kids. I appreciate that it also seems to be going for a greater level of build complexity than most 'creative' projects aimed at this age group.
Nintendo's mistake was teasing this before release. They should have just dropped the ad and you would have had less butthurt. The tease just made people's imaginations run wild with what it could be.

The real question is if the cardboard is made of recycled material.

I spent my childhood playing with legos and bionicles, and building legos and doing mocs is one of the only childish/autistic things I do anymore. But I still fail to see what the appeal is. Specially because it seems to be tailored towards adults, isn't it?

>it will be possible to buy the game cartridges separately and Nintendo will also provide the design pattern for free

I'm still iffy about it, but I used to build all sorts of stuff with cardboard as a kid so I can sort of connect to it. I hope we can use sturdier materials though, cardboard isn't the best for actual use.

>Specially because it seems to be tailored towards adults, isn't it?

??

I'd love to see what Middle Schooler or High Schoolers come up with for their programming and engineering classes. Shit like this is fascinating and is actually teaching kids skills they can immediately apply.

My endgame is being a professor so excuse my giddiness.

Seriously, why all the hate for cardboard? Why is everyone assuming it's just going to disintegrate at a single touch or something? Cardboard is really fucking sturdy.

Ive been at work all day, why is there a switch in cardboard all over Sup Forums?

I'm gonna assume they went with cardboard because then they don't have to waste so much fucking plastic and shelf space on shit like this

Cardboard degrades overtime, I'd rather use sheet plastic.

I'm just going to wait for the Sony Gabo.

did you watch the intro video m8

it's fantastic!

>Seriously, why all the hate for cardboard?
It doesn't hold up well. There's little guarantee that your Labo keyboard is still going to be functional after several years of play, or even just ten years of storage. True, the games will likely have instructions in them for re-crafting the parts out of new cardboard.

I'm honestly more concerned with the games content. The first pack looks more like a 1 2 Switch demo disk than anything else. Maybe the piano and fishing will have actual games attached, but I'm honestly concerned that it will just be a bunch of unremarkable game demos to show off the tech applications more than anything. There's a concern that Cardboard Boxing Robots won't be very interesting either, although I guess we could hope for something as good as Mecha Punch Out.

...

I don't get it?

Good thing they're going to offer replacement kits for free

You're paying for the software

Actual Switch owner here, this is insulting and beyond stupid.

Nintendo, kids left you for mobile gaming and Minecraft.

So a FIFA Labo?

You do know you don't have to buy it right, you can just not pay attention to it user

It's EPIC!!!! XD

>Specially because it seems to be tailored towards adults, isn't it?

>Specially crafted for kids and those who are kids at heart
>Trailer features a 12-14 year old

uhhhhhh

I still have my original 6 toa too but pohatu's rock broke. gali's legs are upside down though.

>replacement kits for free
No, they are handing out the printing diagram for free. You're guaranteed to be charged another $20 for another six sets of cardboard printouts if you want something official from Nintendo, as opposed to something you put together yourself.

Labo is punching out cardboard and putting the Switch/Joycons inside.
Webm is taking the Switch/Joycons and wrapping them up inside a bunch of cardboard.
Humor was attempted.

It does look pretty cute, but I just get antsy thinking about children handling something this fragile. Can I at least order new sets after the first purchase?

>It's for kids

Then why are there only adults in the ad?

>legos

It shouldn't exist, it's an insult to people that own the system and Nintendo saying "we want the kid audience again!".

They're grownup kids at heart.
NOTHING wrong with that

Snake, the R&D team came up with something new...

there is this thing called for all ages retard

>Switch's primary audience is males age 13-28
>use dev resources to make gimmick for children
fucking bravo

90% doesn't appeal to me, but that Google Cardboard poor man's VR would be awesome. I think the switch might actually already fit into the one I have laying around here. Nintendo just needs to make games that implement it.

yet there's only 1 specific demographic being shown

the primary audience is males over 25
but luckily their mental age is around 6

It looks neat and fun for kids. It will actually encourage kids to stop playing on smart devices and build something with their own hands that will be fun for at least a few weeks.
Faggots need to stop having such high expectations from a mini-direct and kids toy announcements, when Nintendo starts hyping shit we'll know smash, dk, metros, etc will be shown for now just be realistic.

This needs to effectively sell to two markets to be successful.

It needs to sell itself to adults, as in, it needs to market itself as easy to set up and something that your kid would enjoy playing with.
It needs to sell itself to kids, as in, it needs to be something cool that you can use your imagination on, and not look like a total geek.

The reason you saw adults putting these things together was to convince them that it was easy, and that they wouldn't be stuck with some sort of Ikea assembly if they buy it. The reason you saw a bunch of 14-year-old-ish kids playing the robo-boxing game is because really young kids would think it's "cool" to play racing or drive a robot, especially if someone a bit older was seen doing so.

they didn't even show the kids painting the thing and most people playing with it were the adults

Cardboard, Nintendo? Seriously?

At this point they just want to see how dumb their consumers actually are. I think they'll be very pleasantly surprised.

Did anyone else get a bizzarro feeling watching this? It's definitely going to go down as one of the weirder things Nintendo has done.

>email survey
>sent to 600k people
>11% response rate

So 66k people make up for the entire switch userbase. Yeah sure.

He grew up, unlike people who will buy Labo

If I was eight years old I would think this is the coolest thing ever.

Just try not to think of all the 30-somethings that are gonna get way into it.

>overpriced cardboard
>intended for kids
>not very robust, kid will likely break it
>1 octave
>velocity?

just buy your kid a real keyboard

>Seriously, why all the hate for cardboard?
Oh, and cardboard wears pretty easily. Some of these things have moving parts, or stacked cardboard which is apparently used to support other parts. It will be very easy for such parts to either get flattened or worn down, and need replaced. And unless this is somehow very high grade cardboard (doubtful) you can expect it to wear fairly soon with heavy use.

kek

>Cardboard is really fucking sturdy.

sturdier than plastic?

>Labo's two playsets, the $69.99 Variety Kit and the $79.99 Robot Kit

nintenbros will pay $70 or $80 for a bunch of fucking cardboard. holy shit you can't make this stuff up

what's the difference?
