Recently i bought Horizon Zero Dawn on sale (big mistake) and it's just insane how strinkingly similar the games are. They are both Pseudo-Games in every way.
You have a main character that keeps talking to himself (Probably for the sake of immersion) but what the retard developers don't realize is that a character talking to themselves, explaining things to themselves is just retarded, not immersive at all.
Secondly, just like in the Witcher 3 and every other AAA western game nowadays you have the retarded Batman senses. Wow! Such detective work, such narrative, i turn on the Witcher- i mean Batman- i mean Horizon senses and every track that is actually non existent in the game world starts lighting up. SUCH GREAT GAMEPLAY.
Then of course, just like the Batman games, the Assassins Creed games, The Witcher 3, and god knows how many other AAA western games it has this garbage combat where the character performs more than 3 actions with the press of a single button. The enemy is behind you? Don't worry about it, the game soft target locks and will automatically target them. Enemy is 5 meters away? Don't worry the game will "teleport" you to the monsters location so that you can strike it! And then of course it will do the strike itself. This kind of combat is absolute garbage and again, every AAA western game does this shit nowadays. Horizon's only saving grace is that it actually has some ranged combat so you're not stuck doing the same garbage melee shit for the entirety of the game. It's still a pile of shit.
Oh yeah, i forgot to mention the binary pseudo-stealth mechanics (aka """stealth""" in a non stealth game) similar to how other pseudo games like Last of Us and Uncharted employ them.
Western AAA games are uninspired heaps of garbage through and through. The setting and narrative is proirity, gameplay takes the backseat.
I'm never going to buy a western AAA game again.
Nathaniel Price
This seems like copypasta from another game cause it doesn't describe it aside from the sensing thing
Cameron Fisher
>it doesn't describe it
Are you retarded? All melee attacks Aloy performs home in on the enemy. She automatically leaps 20 meters towards them if they're not in range. This is a fact that can't be disputed.
So is the fact that the game employs pseudo-stealth mechanics of the same kind any AAA game from the west does nowadays. Horizon's """stealth""" gameplay boils down to to hiding in a bush in which you're completely invisible (dedicated stealth zones easy for everyone to see in case they're retarded), throwing rocks and waiting for enemys to slowly come over, then finishing them off with a scripted kill animation, which, unless you waited for the enemy to enter the grass completely will expose you because Aloy jumps around like a fucking monkey for the sake of presentation and epicness. Sometimes when you execute a corrupted machine she WILL end up being placed in a corruption zone from the kill animation. Retarded.
Jonathan Smith
>but what the retard developers don't realize is that a character talking to themselves, explaining things to themselves is just retarded, not immersive at all
So similar to you, then, justifying yourself, in an anonymous board, hoping for some validation, waiting for someone to come in and say, holy shit user, yes, you are right, you are smart, you are the Einstein of video games, women suck, fucking niggers, nig nig nig chink chink chink, fill me up with your cum.
Happy now? Go suck a cock somewhere else.
Anthony Lewis
>All melee attacks Aloy performs home in on the enemy. She automatically leaps 20 meters towards them if they're not in range. This is a fact that can't be disputed. It can, though. I'd say the range for homing in is 5 meters maximum. And it's not a problem. It's the reliable finisher or for toppling enemies quickly.
Also, this
Levi Murphy
I liked Horizon. It was fun wrestling down giant robot animals. Story wasn't anything spectacular but it was enough to keep me engaged. Lots of fun little toys to play with. I got it and the DLC on sale for like 35ish bucks. Well worth it in my opinion.
Colton Wilson
>Stop trying to start a discussion on my board. It's for shitposting purposes only! Not serious discussion or criticism of game design conventions!
Nolan Ross
...
Caleb Gray
>5 meters maximum
Ever chased after a Boar and pressed R2 in this game? Aloy will fucking fly towards her target, dude.
Austin Hernandez
>I'm never going to buy a western AAA game again. This isn't how you start a discussion. This is how you end a blog post, just like you did. Try "convince me to ever buy a western AAA game again" next time.
I have. It's not 20 meters. Like I said, it's the reliable option and it's only bad because the game has realistic graphics. Flurry Rush makes Link (inb4 >BUT NINTENDO) dash way further in some scenarios and it doesn't look bad at all. Essentially, it's just bad because you think it should be bad. It's like complaining about the bow being hitscan. Robots move way too fast to have melee like Zelda/Dark Souls or realistic bow mechanics.
Isaiah Clark
Flurry Rush is just as awful. It's not about "looking bad" it's about dumb auto aim DEFAULT attacks in an action game.

To be fair, you have to have a high IQ to understand Snyder movies. His art is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of religion and philosophy, not to mention a truly deep knowledge of comics, most of the references will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Superman's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterization - his personal philosophy draws heavily from the gnostic Biblical teachings of Valentinus, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these references, to realize that they're not just fanservice- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Snyder movies truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the depth in Superman's existential catchphrase "Martha", which itself is a cryptic reference to Rand’s Introduction to Objectivist Epistemology. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Snyder's genius unfolds itself on the silver screen. What fools...how I pity them.
And yes, by the way, I DO have a Batman V Superman tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- And even they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand.
Lincoln Gutierrez
Fuck I hate that type of combat so much.
>dude play shadow of war so ebin >100gb ye whatever I'll try >see the auto homing melee combat >explore area to find secrets... there are none >deinstall
Whoever conceived that retarded combat system needs to be executed
Xavier Morris
Arkham Asylum is the culprit i think
Gavin Harris
The default attack is the bow, though. The melee is literally just for >finishing off enemies with low HP >toppling enemies with a heavy attack for takedown/easier damage
The difference here is that in Batman, Witcher 2/3, Assassin's Creed (not sure about Origin) and Shadow of War, the auto aim melee is the main combat option. Think of Aloy's melee as the melee in recent CODs, TF2 or Counter Strike.
The biggest issue with the combat is trying to aim small, irradically moving targets on flailing robots with a controller, almost forcing you to use stealth which breaks the game or slowing time every time you shoot.
Grayson Mitchell
>almost forcing you to use the games combat mechanics
Kevin Rodriguez
Yeah but the important thing is you gave Sony your money stupid goyim.
Dominic Thomas
>Think of Aloy's melee as the melee in recent CODs, TF2 or Counter Strike. That actually sounds alright. I guess the slowdown is the devs lazy response to "aiming at small erratic moving things"
Alexander Brown
I'm playing on ultra hard and you're pretty much forced to use melee combat the first 10 hours of the game because a heavy melee attack will hit for 60 damage, whereas a default bow arrow into a Watchers eye does like 18. The bow is shit damage until you get better ones and/or the triple arrow skill.
Christopher Wilson
Are you really going to pretend the game has autocombat? Are you the entire 1 hour into it? You have to actively exploit weak points to win against most everyone. Even the earliest mob can be one shot killed if you hit him in the weak spot
Jordan Williams
Better than any game on xbox.
Eli Rogers
>Are you really going to pretend the game has autocombat?
I can't even begin to express my wonder at how you came to that conclusion. Is your brain working correctly?
Jordan Rivera
>this pile of shit is better than any Xbox exclusive so that means it's a good game
*yawn*
Nolan Rodriguez
>almost forcing you to use the games combat mechanic which breaks the game Quote the whole thing. The stealth is busted.
>I guess the slowdown is the devs lazy response to "aiming at small erratic moving things" Which sucks because I'd rather have a targeting system like 3D Zeldas or Recore where you could focus on choosing targets, using different weapons and dodging. Maybe gyro aim could help a little, though.
I played before that patch and went in on Very Hard. I don't remember it being that bad, but I got the sharpshooter bow early.
Logan Wright
>it has this garbage combat where the character performs more than 3 actions with the press of a single button That was my clue really. I don't remember Alloy doing 3 actions with one button. I remember having to manually strip armor away and then ignite the skin under the armor with a different type of arrow.
Joshua Cook
In the description it says that Ultra Hard rebalances Aloy's entire weapon kit so idk
Cameron Sullivan
>trying to aim small, irradically moving targets on flailing robots with a controller Dude you know you can slow down time right
Blake Taylor
>play the game the most retarded way >complain that the game is retarded Sasuga Sup Forums. Never even occurred to me that anyone would use a melee attack for anything other than finishers.
Colton Butler
Try reading that part again, in it's entirety.
Bentley Barnes
Did you just start playing video games half a decade ago? Western open world games have been like this since the beginning of 3D western open world games.
Kayden Powell
keep yawning bitch and see what happens
Isaiah Rodriguez
Let me break it down for you so you can understand it. I'm not saying that the combat happens "automatically, on it's own"
I am saying that at the press of a single button (R1 or R2 respectively) Aloy will perform several actions to make sure her attack hits
1. She will soft lock to the target 2. She will leap towards the target if it's not in range 3. Finally, she will strike the target.
Now in an actual fucking action game that isn't shit you would have to close in on the mob ON YOUR OWN, with the movement mechanics of the game, and you would have to maybe do directional inputs to face the enemy in order to be able to attack in that direction and then finally also press the attack button.
Ayden Bell
Untrue. The "homing action combat that looks flashy but you're literally just mashing one button" shit started with garbage games like Arkham Knight.
Not even Elder Scrolls combat is this offensively bad because at least you still have full control over your characters actions.
Andrew Robinson
The spear is broke as fuck in the DLC. two +24% damage mods on top of the electric stun and damage boost you get from sylens. Best tactic for me fighting scorchers was stacking fire resist armor/mods/potion and charging right in.
Ethan Ross
>you would have to close in on the mob ON YOUR OWN You do, silent strike and critical strike have very limited range > with the movement mechanics of the game, and you would have to maybe do directional inputs to face the enemy again, you do, the R1 prompt for the strikes won't show up if you arent facing the enemy
Nathan Price
i'm never playing this because its hardlocked at 30
Joshua Hughes
i completely agree OP, which is why I Didnt buy it, why would You buy it, without checking out an unbiased review or gameplay? this game seemed like shit to me right from the get go.
Jason Parker
First of all, i was talking about normal attacks. Regular R1 and R2 attacks. They home like fucking crazy and if you deny it you're a delusional fanboy.
Secondly, quit your bullshit. The silent strike has just as much, if not more range than regular melee attacks. You can perform it from 10 meters away or some shit. The only attack that does have limited range is the critical AS SHOULD EVERY OTHER ATTACK TOO.
Butthurt Horizondrone detected. If the arrow attacks to 18 damage into a weakspot early in the game, while the spear does 60 damage with a heavy attack, then why the fuck would i NOT use the spear when a single watcher has 90 health? Also, just because you decided not to use melee doesn't magically make the awful fucking melee mechanics go away. "Just don't use it" or "Just ignore it" isn't an argument for defending bad game design, brainlet.
Landon Hughes
They don't super home in and still won't hit if you arent facing the enemy. Aloy won't just turn and face things if you spam attack, she'll jump forward at nothing. Maybe they do on story difficulty but who the fuck would play that?
Juan Reyes
Far Cry is okay when it's Sony exclusive.
Jaxon Moore
Don't know what to say other than that you're lying and that just because you named one attack where it doesn't apply (critical) that means that it's not true in any of the cases.
>They don't super home in Stop backpedaling, yes they do >Won't hit if you're not facing the enemy Wow, so there is one attack that requires me to face the enemy (Note: Facing the enemy in this case means the enemy must be in 180° around your front side peripheral, not actually in front of you) and then it still has absolutely ridiculous range.
All that being said, the range on the silent strike actually isn't awful, because i really don't want to sit there waiting for a dumb machine to come over so i can kill it even longer in this games half assed stealth gameplay (which is a whole other problem on its own) But, again it still applies to 80% of all melee actions and nothing you say will change that.
