One can be prevented by not being an utter dumbass. The other can be do if you avoid the bad parts of town, but usually violence or threat of violence is involved.

I remember when I used to do a LOT of TF2 trading. I traded a shit-ton, enough to make $900 from trading alone. Not as great as some people, but it was worth it.

All I did was just put IDs from servers in a scanner and it'd show me which people had valuable items with low amounts of hours. I'd then add them on steam, ask them what they'd want for that item, or suggest something.

Let me tell you, at this point if someone is going out of their way to add you for a trade on an item, and you don't notice the red flag, you are retarded.

This isn't scamming, it's sharking, but still. Whenever you could get scammed or sharked in any situation, there is always a way to make sure you don't. If you get scammed or sharked, you are fucking retarded, end of story. I'm not saying OP didn't get scammed, but I just laugh every time I see someone say they got scammed, because they gotta be stupid as fuck.
