I'm more excited about the remake since it could mean the return of a lot of D1 monsters and units that haven't been seen since the first game.

Project Nightmare looks interesting. I must admit I was hoping for Disgaea 3/4 on PC though. I have a really hard time going back to non-mouse Disgaea.

Not at all interested in the remake, since DD2 already revisited the Disgaea 1 universe, and they're pushing it by double-dipping. Getting high-res sprites of Captain Gordon and his crew might be neat, though.

Really, I'm just glad because no-one was sure that the series would even still be alive after the production trouble surrounding D5, and the lukewarm reception to it in Japan. Guess the PC and Switch ports helped out. I'm still a bit leary on whether the games would still be good, though, since the company's main talent very publicly jumped ship.

Apparently Gordon and crew aren't very popular in Japan, since campy sci-fi serials like Flash Gordon never aired there. So they don't "get" the references, and apparently the Japanese dub isn't as hammy and over-the-top in its performances for the trio.

Why do people claim that Laharl's character development was reversed for DD2? That was one of the few things that they did kind of right. He's still kind of a brat due to his age, but he's wiser and more levelheaded in general. I think that speech he made to that one archangel was probably one of the highlights of the game. I think they struck kind of a decent balance for Laharl. Outwardly, it seems he hasn't changed much, but a lot of it is clearly more of a front that he's putting up. You repeatedly see evidence of the wisdom he gained from the first game, and how in spite of all his bravado, there is a definite nobility to him that he deliberately keeps hidden most of the time. The only real issue is that I honestly can't see this Laharl showing up in 2 and blowing an entire planet up just because he lost a fight.

Personally, I don't care for Sicily as a character. I think she's boring and generic. However, I also don't think that her presence is entirely negative in regards to how it affects Laharl. Etna's brother, however, is total shit.

I've never played these games before. Is 5 good? I got it for free with my Switch over the holidays. Haven't had time to start it

D3 is actually one of the better games in the series and the popular conception that it's terrible is really dumbfounding. Maps are good, Japanese VAs are good, the narrative, while particular in its execution, is pretty well done if you pay attention, music is great, and the characters are surprisingly likeable when you turn off the English dub.

Weren't there some issues with the port of 2? If not that, maybe the people who bought 1 were just turned off by it so they never bought 2. Either that or they realized they could have emulated them on PSP ages ago.

Disgaea 2 PC did well. Look up the NIS President AMA on Reddit. He teased D3 PC and D6 well before the latest livestream.

They should tweak how subclasses work a bit, I kinda don't like how you don't have to reincarnate as much. I just want less focus on evilities for max stats and more on leveling up your gear. Other than that, I just want more. Really need more generic overloads that don't suck, I wouldn't mind one for each class/monster and a few more you get from item world or something. Also, bring back books and add dual wielding skills.

I've spent ages grinding the shit out of the PC port, especially these past few months and now they're remaking it anyways. I suppose it's time for me to move on to Disgaea 2.

It wasn't first. People bought 1 to see what playing the series on PC felt like, they're not going to rebuy the whole fucking series if it's not going to get substantial improvements. They should have just skipped ahead to 5.

It's a PS3 game, Sony likely has exclusive rights to it as of right now. It'll be a while, if ever.

If you don't like the story/characters of 5 that's subjective, but it made the best improvements gameplay wise. The only thing it really suffered from was a shorter post-game than previous titles, and even that was subverted if you got the complete version on Switch or one of the times the season pass went on sale on PSN.

1's OST doesn't need a remaster, it's got a ton of charm to it.
honestly outside of the sometimes ugly sprites I can't think of much about the first game that needs remastering, but that might just be the nostalgia talking
