Love em all

They're usually empty and void of life so it's easy for me to imagine that I have successfully destroyed the world and can live in peace and quiet for all eternity

DoT

Slip slidey movement is hard to get right, but I don't think it's inherently bad.

Fuck this place, jumping the pillars without the space jump was a pain.

slidy ice mechanics.

not fun. not challenging. just awkward.

Love, they have the best music and always have unique encounters in the entire game
Hate, that sometimes, they have the trope of slippery floors, its a 50/50 in some cases, there's times where the slippery floors let's you go at retarded speeds if you know how to keep your momentum, but in other cases it makes the game a chore.

The music.

Always enjoy a good snow level, especially if its got that abandoned feeling to it.

Unless given an interesting twist, it's painfully boring to look at for a lengthy period. It should be saved for short levels/segments.

I tend to enjoy their atmosphere. I've always enjoyed Winter. I like the cold and isolation that it invokes.

I tend to not like ice levels mechanically, though. I don't care for the slip-sliding of it all, at least not in platformers. I know it's just a simple adjustment, but I often feel they can easily become unfair if the slipperiness of it isn't balanced well.

Love
>Peaceful atmosphere
>Reminds me of Christmas
>Either Christmasy music like youtube.com/watch?v=cGSnbOVj9Tk
>Or calm, peaceful music like youtube.com/watch?v=pS1pEzkwpRY
>Slippery ice physics

What counts as an interesting twist in your opinion?

Meant to put ice physics under Hate.

>Love
The music
The ones that are visually impressive/cool to look at

>Hate
The physics (though, I suppose it varies)

They can be quite comfy and I like when they aren't too cluttered with stuff.

Fucking love it. Comfy as fuck.

SNow is pretty but jsut about everything else about it is awful

>COld wet slippery
>Makes that awful crunching sound when you step in it
>Only thing unaffected by Snow are birds which are the one thing you'd want to fuck off for winter

But thankfully most of that stuff doesn't apply to videogames

>wait months for mmo to change landscape to snow
>mfw first day it happens

Good
>Usually good music (unless they go xmas style)
>Comfy
>Nice change of pace
>Looks gud

Bad
>Slippery mechanics
>Many games dont have crunchy snow foot falls
>Cold mechanics often are just tedious instead of engaging/immersive

I like walking around in the snow in real life so I love a good snow level. The ice fields in Breath of the wild were great. I'm also a big fan desert levels.

all the white can a serious eyesore in some games

satisfying crunch and tippy tappy noises
theme songs with sleigh bells

If "snowy" and "icy" is the only thing that describes them, they're trash.
If it's a place that would be interesting even if it wasn't snowy, then good.

best music, worst mechanics
always

What game is this? Looks cozy.

Nice christmasy feelings.

love the aesthetics, hate ice physics

>Love
they almost always have the best theme in the game
>Hate
water damages you

I thought this was that linkuei level of mk armageddon's konquest mode at first.

How has nobody posted this

>MMO has an entire full-fledged snowy/ice landscape

GW2 was comfy.

youtube.com/watch?v=RTefaZXXBlo

have a comfiest ice music familia

>That first song
It was my alarm clock for the whole month of December

It's the best aesthetic in gaming

I wish it snowed in my town

What are some games where the whole thing is an ice level?

Question for the people who hate ice physics.

How would you feel if a ice/snow level never used slippery ice. Would you be glad they didn't use the mechanic or would you feel like the devs didn't do something that's obligatory for a snow level? If I played through an ice level and never landed on a slippery surface and slid around honestly I'd feel kinda ripped off.

> Desert level is yellow and brown
> wtf this shit is so bland it's garbage kys
> Snow level is all white and black
> Magsimam gomfee u guise!
WHAT DO I HATE ABOUT SNOW LEVELS?
THEY GET AWAY WITH IT. THAT'S WHAT I HATE ABOUT THEM.
GIVE ME FUCKING SAND AND SUN AND WIDE OPEN PLAINS OF NOTHINGNESS IN WHICH TO FIGHT GRAND BATTLES WITH EPIC KAIJU!

I guess the fact that you're snug as a bug in a rug while exploring these beautiful landscapes, without the frigid cold sinking into your skin.

love
>slow relaxing atmosphere
>music
>ice physics
>scenery
hate
>if too long, scenery becomes stale (too much of one or two colors.)

t. Desert scum

The number one thing that I absolutely fucking HATE about ice levels is that I can never again experience them for the first time to put some joy and/or wonder into my life.

DIE SNOWNIGGER

They’re awesome. They make me feel comfy as fuck.

Ristar is one of those rare games that actually has fun ice levels. Hell, the water levels are fun too.

I genuinely believe that how much of my enjoyment from a game is based around the availability of a snowy level. Even if the game can be shit, if there's an ice level then it's all good.

Dark Souls 2, it thought it was okay and nothing special, until it got the DLC with a snow level. Borderlands 2 is infuriating but it got a snow level. Fucking Lost Planet games are just 3 Michelin stars games in my eyes.

Space jump first. I'll never replay Prime without doing it that way
