About to buy this Gamesir G3w controller as a gamepad for platforming games on my PC.
Should I pull the trigger? What's the best (cheap) controller you can use with Windows 10?

8bitdo
Looks hideous. I heard steam controller is good for platformers
It's kinda pricey
I'm also not a fan of touchpad over physical buttans
I just use an xbone controller + dongle with the cheap battery packs ($16 for 2) from Amazon. Works great, even in the next room over where my TV is (hardwired to gpu with hidden hdmi).
I wouldn't trust any particularly cheap controllers. If you end up burned you'll just have wasted that money.
I use a DS4 myself but I heard that the Xbone controller is good too.
DS4 has the touchpad and gyro too, which can be freely bound to any action on PC.
JUST USE A FUCKING KEYBOARD
>2011+7
>wired
The Xbone controller.
...
Just get the xbox one
heard it has issues with sticks being crazy sensitive
Just get a ds4
360 controller is the only one you need.
My GF got me this one for Christmas, pretty decent actually and it's like 30€
Buy a Switch Pro controller. Works great with everything, super comfy, Bluetooth or USB. Look for Xenoblade version since they unfucked the D-PAD in that one. I ditched my Steam Controller for it.
>unfucked the d-pad
elaborate
>2011+7
>Using wireless to get more input lag.
It's almost a perfect controller, but the digital triggers fuck it.
>no charging
>no latency
>plug and play
Why do you need wireless with PC? You aren't sitting a mile away from the TV, what is the point?
neatness
With previous versions you could press a whole D-PAD in as a button, triggering all direction at once. So if you are trying to play platformers or fighting games where you have to rock the D-PAD you'll end up pressing it down all the time. It was intentional since the buttons on Switch joy-cons are separated and can be pressed down at the same time, but Nintendo fixed it after the backlash, since no game used this and after all it just was a shitty D-PAD.
Xbone controller has haptic feedback triggers. Which is amazing for racing games and just in general.
You can just neatly organize your wires. Also wired controllers are lighter too.

>fucking dongles
>battery packs
>stress over keeping up with your charging
wired is da wey to go
>Look for Xenoblade version since they unfucked the D-PAD in that one
Oh shit, that's VERY good to know
Now if only it had analog triggers, it'd actually be the perfect controller
>dongles
takes a usb port just like a wired would
>battery packs
360 drone detected. most controllers have internal batteries.
>stress over keeping up with your charging

3 inches of dongle is less manageable than a usb port and a wire
Any nice small/slim bluetooth controllers for emulating old games on a laptop that I could slip into a laptop bag's front pocket.
I was wondering if I can use the PS4 Hori controller. Does that work with remote play app too? Or maybe I could get an 8bitdo device.
As long as it's somewhat slim.
Hori mini I mean. Wired is fine too.
just buy a wired 360 controller for like < $15
>sold out on amazon and most places
M$ really cracking down to funnel people to buy Xbone
>mfw i bought one a a yard sale a month ago for $1
Even when the 360 was still in production, it was difficult to find any wired 360 controllers for ~$20.
What's a good controller for someone who prefers the bulkiness and layout of an Xbone controller, but prefers the dualshock d-pad?
aint nobody got money for that
You are objectively wrong.
Wired is just straight up better in all regards.
Exept you can sit further away which nobody cares about unless they're a single console level sperg.
Buying a non-xbox one for pc gaming is literally throwing your money in the trash. Steam controller is the only non-xbox controller worth considering for pc. Anything else - piece of shit.
I love this controller but I did run into a problem after just a week. I left it plugged in to charge and when I came back to it then next morning, it wouldn't turn on at all. I had to run the firmware installer again to get it to turn back on, by holding L+R while plugging it in to the computer, according to their instructions on the website. So it's a known problem I guess, hope I won't have to do this shit every time I charge the thing.
Thanks for your input, Steve from microsoft.
t. can't distinguish between shilling and proper buying options
Console controllers are unironically the best choice for PC gaming, because they go through years and years of dev testing until they're perfect. Nothing from a third party is going to come close to that level of quality control.
So your choices are:
Xbox 360 pad
Xbone pad
PS3 controller
PS4 controller
Best choice is probably the Xbone pad, since it has incredibly quick and easy compatibility with Windows 10. A lot more PC games were built with the 360 pad in mind but it's got a shitty Dpad so it wouldn't be good for platformers.
It honestly is hard to tell. That's what makes the joke funny.
I don't have an Xbone controller, but I did notice that a lot of PC games now are adopting its menu buttons instead of forward/back. Ori and the Blind forest obviously since that's Microsoft, but I've seen some others too.
I actually use an 8Bitdo for those kinds of games anyway though, don't care if the A/B and X/Y buttons don't line up right.
sup thread. help me choose between two 3P controllers

>What's the best (cheap) controller you can use with Windows 10?
Xbox 360 wired controller - You can get them for less than $25 now.
>Middle button
>Not correctly alligned
God that would piss me off every time id use that
>not x360 pad
I love that controller but the build quality on them is so shit. I must have been through more than 10 since the 360 release.
Is the xbone one any good?
What's the deal with all the reports of the Xbone elite breaking in less than a year?
The shoulder buttons on mine stopped being responsive after a couple of years.
Apparently I got the 1st generation of them, and the next generation fixed this issue.
I currently use an Xbone-ish controller from kingear. Very comfy.
My only gripe with the Xbone controller is that it's finicky on certain devices. Like, on my android tablet I could not get it to work at all, and the only work arounds involved rooting the device and downloading a bunch of offbrand apps to force it to work. Also, when I first plugged it into windows 7 I had to download a bunch of driver shit just to get it recognized. 360 was much more universally accepted as plug and play with no fuss.
Other than that it's great though. Decent Dpad, good triggers. I just got a cheap logitech for gaming on my tablet (which I only do for emulator shit whenever I'm out)
For platformers I just use the old xbone360 controller, works like a charm. Thinking about getting a hitbox for tekken 7
I don't have OCD so I'm fine
>not having OCD

isnt this kind of sexist? why cant it be called gamem'lady
Is there a big difference in support and quality of Xbox one and 360 controller? Or can you keep using 360 controller fine?
They should probably release an updated version called GameXirs for the sake of inclusivity
I got this and it's ok but dualshock 4 feels way nicer for only a little bit more
it works with steam now too
The Elite is shit.
Regular Xbone is fine.
Newer Xbone controllers (from XboneS and onward) can connect to PC via Bluetooth, older controllers require the Xbone Wireless Controller adapter.
Both new and old controllers can use the adapter, both will have better performance with the adapter (BT is 2.4ghz only, Xbone native wireless is actually 802.11ac 5+2.4ghz with a proprietary data layer - less latency and better range than BT)
Both can use the wireless BT headset on PC but only with the adapter.
Using an Xbone controller wired for long periods is a bad idea, all Xbone controllers are prone to microusb port issues.
Still have mine since 2008 and works like a charm. You have to learn how to take care of your stuff user.
I have it, it's pretty good unless you want to play emulators, you're gonna have fun configuring that shit.
gamesir is shit and used to shill on here all the time
dont fall for the meme
Steam controller is the best, though 2D platformers may not be one of its strong points if you don't want to put some effort into relearning shit.
I've played on consoles and really used to actual buttons
I'm not sure how the touchpads can replace that feeling
Xbone works fine here.
Although all of my 360 controllers still work too (originial white pad from preorder VIP pack in 2005 is a little squeeky on the triggers now though, probably needs a teardown and oiling)
>Bluetooth or USB
except it only connects with bluetooth on PC, plugging it in via USB does fucking nothing.
Great controller and all but I wish I fucking knew this before I bought it.
>buying third-party controllers
Just don't. Get a DS4 or a Xbone controller. Don't say we didn't warn you nigga.
The xbone controller is the obvious choice
Someone post the image of the most optimal controller ever made. You know which one.
this or the f310 are the best cheap gamepads in my opinion
also, you should wait for the xbox one controller to be on sale or something
>discontinued
>f310
no rumble
the F710 then
inb4 >wireless
get the xbone controller you digsusting poorfag
