So i had this conversation with my cousin a while ago.
> "so user do you play a lot of games?"
> "Yes i guess"
> i finished persona 3 again the night before and restarted cavestory
> "Oh cool do you play league of legends?"
> "No"
> "cod"
> "only a little bit if it is world at war or cod4:mw on multiplayer with friends other than that i dont care"
> looks confused "i'm talking about the new one"
> "oh well then no"
> "oh well what about PUGB"
> "no"
> "oh so you are not a real gamer then you know if you havent played these games then you are not a real gamer"
> i did not respond.
My cousin is 6 years older than me. I would at least expect some level of maturity from him.
Is this how people think nowadays?
Also am i the only one who hates the word gamer?

>Persona 3
Anime games are not real games

I don't know why this stuff surprises you. I really don't know if you're genuinely forcing yourself to not understand so you can make stupid threads like this, or if you're genuinely autistic and lack the sorts of social skills which give you the required understanding of human nature to figure this out.

The vast majority of people who are into a hobby have very surface level tastes. They read / play / watch / listen to whatever the biggest most popular stuff is. They equate popularity as a measure of quality, and for people with basic tastes that is honestly a good metric to go off of.

They haven't even heard of anything beyond the mainstream. They don't know that shit like Persona even exists, it isn't a part of their world. To them, the video game industry consists of top-level popularity AAA games, and all the "real" gamers play them. Their environment reinforces this too: It's what their friends play. It's what the streamers and Youtube personalities they watch play. It's what they hear their co-workers talking about at the watercooler.

So when you tell them that you play this or that more niche title, in their brains it is the equivalent of someone talking about a phone game to you. They never heard of it and it isn't part of their world, and they define themselves as big gamers, so it must not be the sort of thing gamers play. The immediate knee-jerk reaction is "oh well my younger cousin doesn't play hardcore games like myself, a hardcore gamer, so obviously he isn't a hardcore gamer."

You see this with almost any medium. Basic people have no idea how basic they are.

>you are not a gamer

That's right, I just happen to love videogames.

It's hard to accept that most people are ridiculous plebs.

Maybe you're the pleb, persona is a pretty shitty casual jrpg series after all. Try some falcom games.

/thread

nobady cares about your weeboo games.

Not really.

For most people their hobbies make up a fraction of their time. Even if they spend 100% of their leisure time focusing on that hobby, that's a fraction of the time they have, the rest goes to taking care of their family, working, sleeping, you know the normie stuff.

People also don't like to leave their comfort zones. If PUBG is still entertaining to him after 1000 or 2000 hours of play, why would he ever need to look for new games? He's satisfied with what he has.

In a way I'm envious of plebs like this. I've played so many games that almost nothing impresses me. I would love to play some hyper-popular multiplayer streambait and be able to have hundreds of hours of fun.

How do you define a game user?
I mostly dont care about other people(i dont know if this is autism or not) but this genuinely surprised me.
I'm not btw and i have played some of the older smt games. I just play persona 3 because i like to replay some of my first games every christmas.

No, you are ridiculous, if you're willing to deal with anime bullshit and sink time into a singleplayer game, while nobody in your social circle can support or understand that. You're the weird one, user. Whether you accept that or shamefuly hide is up to you, but don't ie to yourself about that.

>Jackie Chan will die in your lifetime
I'm not ready for the sadness lads ;_;

I can confirm that this brings greater happiness. I'm pretty cynical about shit that comes out, I don't give a fuck about whatever AAA garbage is out there, the term "gamer" is cringey, etc. But I still casually play Team Fortress 2 and it's just the right kind of filler for me. I'll play other stuff, but when I'm not I'm playing that.

Try to find a guilty pleasure default game you go back to and enjoy your hobby.

>while nobody in your social circle can support or understand that.
I don't understand.
I need to have people in my social circle that know what games I play/movies I watch/books I read?

Your cousin was right you little faggg

>> i did not respond
What a cuck.

How is this surprising? Do you honestly think that plebs walk around thinking to themselves "gosh, I am such a plebeian, my tastes are so absolutely BASIC. It's incredible how basic and limited my tastes are, ignorant of an entire world beyond my limited scope!"

Of course not. A person's ego will not allow them to do that for their own mental health. Having a poor self-image is a serious psychological defect. Your brain will bend over backwards to make sure that you think of yourself as an expert in whatever topic you have decided to invest your time in.

It's the same reason asshole students think they're an expert on a topic that they took a single intro course for. Good old fashioned "101 syndrome."

...

Jackie Chan hasn't been in a good movie since forever. I sometimes forget who he is at times.

Some people are just plebs who will never understand kino. They will be content to play, watch and read entry level trash forever.

You're pathetic.

And they will be twice as happy as you with half the understanding.

Its only natural for a pleb to be angry when exposed to the truth.

>Of course not. A person's ego will not allow them to do that for their own mental health.
Wrong. People accept they are not experts in their hobbies or fields all the time. It is neurotic narcissists (most of Sup Forums) that have breakdowns when they realize they're not the best or that good at what they do.

>not watching Jackie "I want trouble" Chan in The Foreigner

>"friend" posts on facebook a photo of his switch with wolf link
>"TOTALLY WORTH IT XD"
>tell him that it's a shame that it lacks 17 hearts
>"I don't have enough time xD, I go to work and got things to do"

It's not anger, it's disgust

There's a difference between accepting that you're not at the highest tiers of knowledge and thinking that you're a completely ignorant plebeian.

People can't think of themselves as idiots.

I really regret discovering video games.
The worse is, I have no idea what to do with my life so I had the great idea to work in this industry, and it's dogshit.

play some pubg faggot

This is the normie equivalent of "u mad bro?"

There is nothing you can say that won't make you look like an autist.

>t. mad pleb
lol

I'm better than you.

Exactly, sad part is he doesn't own a WiiU, so he could never level it up.

Maybe even pity now.

>A guy post something on facebook about something he enjoyed and he is happy.
>Sperg comment about some stupid shit.
You are the problem, non your "friend".

Post on Sup Forums that makes sense? Amazing.

Who said anything about anyone being the problem? Is it bad to inform them some thing they clearly wasn't aware of?

Yes.

If you are an adult and you don't understand why you never will and explaining it would be pointless.

Yes, you wanted to prove the point "hurr durr you are not a true gamer cause *some shit*". Normal functioning people doesnt remark about a minor thing like that.

Learn electronics and do your own games with your own crazy controllers.

>am i the only one
Fucking no, you are never the only one. I do almost nothing but play video games and everyone that calls themselves a gamer is almost always a shitter on-par with "jimmyhernandez.2007" and clan fags. They can't even hold a real conversation about the video games they "play" half the time because some of them are like Sup Forums and don't actually play video games.

I did that? How? Just by saying Nintendo sells shit that requires you to buy a WiiU?

What?

Like I said, you fundamentally don't understand this very basic part of social interaction and you never will. Don't worry about it. It's not part of your life.

>defending a filthy casual
the absolute state of nu-wave Sup Forums

lmao nice try "real" gamer

Just call him a faggot, that always helps.

...

nice cop-out

>I know what's the problem but I won't tell you

Huh, OK.

I've spent too much time literally babysitting autistic people that I know how this argument goes. I was a camp counselor at a summer camp for autistic people for years.

You might as well try to explain to a devout religious person why god isn't real. It's pointless. If they don't immediately understand why interjecting with superior knowledge about a casual topic publicly makes them a dick they never ever will.

>endlessly playing an old indie game and weebshit
Your cousin sounds like less of a sperg than you.
Also not you personal hugbox, cry me a river you faggot.

>interjecting with superior knowledge about a casual topic

You mean what you just did?

> i did not respond
The Virgin OP vs the Chad cousin

No, clearly he's not doing that, because he would be a dick if he was.

And an autistic person, don't forget that.

>You might as well try to explain to a devout religious person why god isn't real.
Except this is not the same scenario. Did you ever consider pulling your head out of your ass?

>commenting of your self-righteous gloating for dickish behaviour on an anonymous imageboard is the same as real social interaction between rl "friends" on social media
Autism at work once again

Ah, so you admit to being a dick.
That's the first step.

>real social interaction
>on social media

You need to write a book right now, motherfucker.

What kind of approval issues do you have, user?

>it's odd for people to commit time to things they like
I will never understand this. What else are you supposed to do in your life? Things that you DON'T like? What the fuck man?

This conversation didn't happen

This post hit the nail right in the head

...

Not the one who first replied to you, but you're seriously autistic if you think "being a dick" to some idiot on an anonymous discussion board is comparable to being a cunt to your friends.
>current year

>In a way I'm envious of plebs like this
This is why you need to learn the Tibetan way of feigning ignorance.

You have to understand a simple fact which is anime is fucking gay soyboy shit and normies will never touch that shit ever because it emasculates them. Same with japanese games, they wouldn't ever touch it unless it had some masculinity to it.

You should really watch The Foreigner.

no its a terrible movie, just like the book.

You're a terrible movie user!

Are you gay? Sounds like you’re over compensating.

imagine being this butthurt because someone said you're not "a real gamer"

No user, i believe you're the gay one here who is offended by me a well adjusted hetero male calling out your sissy boi indoctrination games.

what movie?

You tought foreigner was bad?
Just see his latest movie, Bleeding Steel.
5+ people just walk out of the theater mid movie

That's 5+ more than the foreigner

The Foreigner is a great movie

Drunken Master 2

A brainlet like you wouldn't understand my movie

The title I think it will be really interesting for Chinese fans because not matter what they refer to everyone else as a foreigner even if they are staying in that persons country. To them everyone else is weird and always "The Foreigner".

>t. Albert Einstein

Jackie Chan is the titular Foreigner

can we just implement a fucking upboat system so i don't have to see anymore of these "i agree" reddit tier posts that seem to be increasing quite a bit recently.

The book was called the Chinaman but that was racist because he's a gook in the story, so they called it the foreigner instead.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Chinaman_(Stephen_Leather_novel)

When I write about video games I always avoid using the word gamer. I'll say player, user, consumer, enthusiast, fan, supporters, etc. It's really the opposite of the GG attempt to "reject" the "identity" of what "gamer" means. They already hijacked the word then thought they could threaten actual video game hobbyists by trying to draw negative connotations with something that no longer belongs to them and was already polluted.

no it's not. it's not even good. it's a 5/10 timewaster that you feel nothing about and immediately forget.

the most interesting thing is that we are all like this, even you user, and I'm sure that its not in video games, but every person has so many hobbies that you cant go beyond mainstream with everything, you might have good taste in vidya, anime etc. but you will probably have mainstream taste in music /literature/fashion. You won't probably have the mindset that your mu/lit/fa is the best, BUT you will probably once argue with someone who understands the topic more and you will look like the older cousin. It's just important to be openminded and open to discussion

thats what movies are, user

>When I write about video games
you should probably kill yourself right here but then i read the rest of your post and then i was sure. kys

That's how i feel about you user after i fucked you in the ass.

>t. Not a gamer

Fuckin dweeb

I've been pondering the same thing

10/10 post

same i've been pondering for 40 years user.

Well I've helped development of several games by writing about them, being in direct contact with the developers. I also will infrequently put up a Steam review if it seems imperative that I do so.

Ironically chinese people would not consider this racist as they LITERALLY refer to each other as fucking sensitive white people and american born chinks

Zhong guo ren

China people

This, fucking normies.
