So with the cryptocurrency bubble finally popping, about how long will it realistically take for graphics card prices to return to normal? I was hoping to buy one with my tax returns this year but that's not happening if a GTX 1070 still costs $500-800.
Can't wait to pick up some cheap graphics cards and wait for the inevitable recovery of the market, so we can do it all over again.
John Phillips
Don't overpay a penny on them. If they have been used for mining chances are they're really worn out and might not have a lot of life left in them.
Samuel Butler
Ethereum was $7 at the beginning of 2017 so most GPUs will have been used for less than a year of mining. I used a 7950 to mine for a few months back in 2014 and it still works today.
Colton Gomez
Nothing has crashed or popped. Bitcoin is worth ten times what it was a year ago.
Nicholas Clark
>check coinbase excited to buy some eth while its """"""""""""""""""""""Crashing"""""""""""""""""""""" >it's not even sub 1k
fucking normie retards like you who have no clue how the market works need to shot

why did gfx cards go up with cryptomememonies? im not a fa/g/ so fill me in
Ayden Lopez
Haha you dumb faggots. I made 6000 gorrilion dollars buying csgo skins and sitting around doing nothing while their price went stupid high. Never mind the fact that my digital item is worthless unless I can convince some other retard to buy it off me so he get take my spot in the "sitting around waiting for the value to go up" club. I'M RICH!
Nolan Lopez
They're used in crypto mining which can be profitable, people would make "farms" for it.
Brody Ortiz
Most miners downclock their cards for power efficiency.
Luke Brooks
Graphics cards are good at doing several things at once which just happens to be what they need for this. CPUs on the other hand focus on doing one thing at a time, so they'd be slower at it.
Carter Brown
The "bubble" was popping back when bc dropped from 1k to 400. Oh wait...
Landon Hughes
What the fuck is the deal with these new wojaks?
Luke Bennett
Last I heard mining made for better used cards than gaming- consistent, stable use & temps vs spikes & extremes. You got any facts to back up the 'not a lot of life left in them'? Honest question.
Elijah Ross
One R9 390 hashes at around 30MH/s Ten R9 390's hash at around 300MH/s Get it yet? More cards = more hashes = more crypto-coins of your favourite flavour
AMD cards are better at mining than Nvidia, but with the shortage of cards Nvidia 1060's/1070's started becoming viable. 1080 was less useful because GDDR5X doesn't work as well from what I recall.
Owen Morales

This is as retarded as people thinking the gaming industry will die. Crypto is a multi BILLION dollar industry and as im writing this there we have almost reached 600 billion world market cap. We went as high as over 800 billion. Its realistic we will eventually see a 1 trillion dollar market cap.
Think about that, one TRILLION dollars. CIA estimates state there is about 80 trillion dollars in FIAT currency circulating, which would mean 1/80th of ALL THE MONEY IN THE WORLD is in crypto investments. If you think this shit will die and go away you are sorely fucking mistaken
Benjamin Diaz
Some retards think another jokecoin can replicate the success of Doge.

nice meme fag now debunk something I said. Oh wait you can't so kill yourself. Go spend money on a depreciating asset like a GPU instead of investing it in something that will accrue value. Maybe if youre a good boy mommy will buy you the triple layered diapers
Noah Edwards
Crypto will go away, because governments are simply going to ban the coins once retarded people start going bankrupt from making poor investments in crypto. Besides, governments don't even need a reason to ban crypto trading, they can do so on a whim.
Samuel Hall
its not popping faggot. the prices dip every sunday.
Jackson Martin
Anyone have a pink wojak wearing a golden-face mask.jpg?
Joshua Moore
>ban something they can tax and make a shit ton of money on
yeah, sure. I bet most of the kikes in government are already invested, you really think they are going to miss out on this goldmine?

they say that to cause people to panic sell then the govt officials buy up cheap coins certain officials in Korea were revealed to have shorted Bitcoin just before a "ban crypto" announcement
Hudson Torres
I unironically invested all my money in crypto and have lost so much money. I'm going to kill myself if Bitcoin drops below 9k.
Alexander Robinson
Nobody is actually that stupid, user.
Except for maybe /biz/
Noah Bennett
That hasn't stopped the get-rich-quick retards from gobbling up all the 1080s too, because that was all that was left. They're even more expensive and just as rare as 1070s now.
Brandon Campbell
When it does crash, how is the warranty traded over (if it still is relevant).
Benjamin Howard
So where are all those overnight millionaires who got rich with crypto?
Caleb Gonzalez
China. And they can't use the money for anything.
Bentley Lopez
What good is crypto if you can't actually spend it though? Being a "bitcoin millionaire" is meaningless because when you try to cash out, you trigger a panic sell-off that deflates the value of everyone's money. The exchanges lock down and no-one can actually get anything for their bitcoins.
Bitcoin is going to be regulated one way or another. It might not be outright banned in the US but it's going to at least be governed by the same laws that regulate stuff like Paypal.
Grayson Butler
>So with the cryptocurrency bubble finally popping
kek
Oliver Jones
i took it right now
Xavier Lewis
Bitcoin does not accrue value. The reason Apple stocks accrued value is because they launched the Apple II computer and later the iPhone. The investors took a risk and their risk paid off when the company blew up.
The people who own bitcoin want more people to buy because that means the coins they have will be more "valuable." If the coiners are all saying "BUY!" that means you should definitely not buy. It's a pyramid scheme, not an investment. And unlike an investment, you don't get a dividend of profits for how many bitcoins you own. The only way to make money off of bitcoin is by selling it, and that means you have to find a buyer who is willing to make less money off of it than you did. That is why this whole thing is so unsustainable and we haven't even hit anywhere near rock bottom yet.
James Thomas
>own 4 bitcoins >Bitcoin hits $50,000 right before tax season >government taxes me for $200,000 worth of bitcoin >bitcoin drops to $5,000 right after I pay my taxes
Isaac Lewis
Taxes are paid on actualized gains, not on potential value.
Samuel Davis
That means that bitcoins are not money though.
Luis Hall
Of course they're not. Only an idiot would think they are.
Jordan Long
>BUY, YOU FUCKING NO-COINERS! BUY NOW OR I'LL FUCKING KILL MYSELF!
Kevin Myers
Why is Sup Forums so uneducated about bitcoin?
You're supposed to be tech geeks. Sup Forums cums over bitcoin.
Ryder Martinez
nvidea cards are better at different algos actually.
Leo Carter
You can mine crypto's with gpu's. People buy a shit ton of gpu's to farm crypto's. Retailers are just about sold out on cards and increase prices of said cards for profit.
That said the more the mining goes on (counts for everyone) the more difficult it becomes to mine crypto's, the calculations done in order to get one get more complex so they mine less the longer it goes on (this is long term, not anytime soon). So eventually it will cost more power to get the same profit thus costing more than you gain. Hopefully it will go down by then.
Aiden Clark
they are making it. Just for lulz.
Cooper James
Sup Forums is Sup Forumsay Also Sup Forums can't even pirate, Sup Forums literally buys software and takes pride in wasting their money.
Carson Cox

William Thomas
They won't, some big players are in crypto and if they do ban it then worst Korea will go down in crisis since almost everyone there trades crypto's.
Jordan King
Crypto was a mistake. I really thought it had potential as a real universal currency but it just ruined so much shit.
Nolan Williams

What has to happen for us to get a real digital currency that doesn't just turn into investment shit?
Brody Richardson
You can buy new and upcoming cryptos that will be even more valuable!
Justin Richardson
Regulation. No-one likes to talk about it, but unless there's regulation it'll never work.
Brody Butler
Volatility and the price for exchange is what made them not want to deal in it anymore.
John Kelly
Yeah but you can actually buy things with Fiat currency. Crypto is only used to buy different crypto.
Cameron Ward
Pretty much. It worked until it was seen as a way to speculate.
Jacob Carter
I bought a video game with my crypto. And a subscription service.
Carson Flores
>So with the cryptocurrency bubble finally popping source?
Elijah Wright
its not that its popping. Its that since there are no regulatory or any oversight in trading. Prices are volatile as fuck . remember suicide hotlines are the top posts on subreddits for crypto.
Brody Williams
but you can't buy a car, a house or other real things with cryptos
Asher Butler
Not the other user, but he's full of shit.
We have render farms at work that run cards 24/7 for years on end, some of those cards have been hard at it for over half a decade and we typically only replace cards to upgrade them (hilariously we've been selling them on to miners), rarely because they've failed and the ones that do fail are almost all due to bearing/fan related wear and tear which is easy enough to fix.
Robert Butler
>but a couple digital things without value with crypto woooow
Wyatt Roberts
but those are workstation cards. Whole different animal. Its like comparing end user cpus with server cpus.
Alexander Sanders
/biz/ tell me, why do you guys bother with cryptocurrencies?
Ryder Allen
I bought cash with my crypto too.
Jack Watson
>stuffs is designed to run a certain hours in its lifetime >stuffs is running 24/7 which is 3x to 10x of normal usages >expect it to be as durable as a normal used same object
Lucas White
Nobody is really going to either. The ups and downs are still so massive that people will refuse to use it as it was originally intended, I mean why spend when the next morning or week you have 12k instead of 9k? This is why the 'value' is so high, people are holding however if people were to spend it daily then it wouldn't be as high as it currently is and the more people sell, well we all see what happens then. The higher it goes the more massive the drops will be.
Christian Russell
Because they want to get rich without actually working. So they invest heavily in crypto while doing everything they can to get people to invest in their coins of choice, hoping to surge their value and cash out while its high. Some of them actually pull it off too.
That being said, its not really hard to actually make the amount of money they are off just working a job.
Eli Morales
A GPU is made to do large amounts of basic 3D math at the same time extremely well. It's vastly cheaper to use a GTX1080ti over just having something comparable to let's say i9-7980XE.
Liam Martin
its not about making money. it knowing how to spend it. You can make millions and have nothing to show for it.
Jose Kelly
so prices aren't going down anytime soon
Benjamin Bennett
What does that have to do with anything?
Camden Myers
