What are some comfy countries to play?
...
Unironically BR
Victoria 2 divided we stand is really fun even if it isn't autistic.
CK2 over and over again on HIP
occasionailly I'll do a run without the fucked up map for an observation run on EUIV and VICyy2
What country should I play?
I'm playing M&T as Venice, yesterday patch made it more stable
I need to finish my spurdo run but theres still like 300 years left and hardly any challenge
>pick a country
>play for 50 years
>get bored
>pick other country
>repeat
Help
navarrean colonial empire
CK2 obviously, it just clicks with me for some reason.
Do you play Ironman?
When the fuck is waking the tiger coming out
Agreed. Never could get into EUIV or Vicky
Mongolia. Restore Mongolia to it's former glory. Or just any horde because they're the most fun to play in all of EU4
>play EU4 for years
>still only understand the basics
I feel like a brainlet.
I dont save scum but I dont use ironman in case of crashes or whatever, and since I use a few mods I can't get achievments so I don't see the point
Dominions.
>unironically playing paradox trash
Hopefully you at least pirate all DLC
What are some good games?
>I dont save scum
I try not to but but the temptation is too strong, some time I even cheat.
>used to play Vicky 2 a coupe of years ago
>decide to by it during the christmas sale
>get my shit pushed in by big, strong, muscular rebels
What happened lads? Where the rebels massively buffed in same patch or did I just become a scrub?
Also this
Are you still able to pirate DLC on a legit steam game? I literally never play online so thats fine
I cheated once when restoring the roman empire. Mostly just reduce threat, and i think i stole some money and peity too just to be able to do the decision.
No thanks, I don't play games made by literal jews
How to get good at strategy games?
Civ 5 still. Until Civ 6 gets all of its DLC, Civ 5 will be the ultimate grand strat game.
Playing as china was probably my favourite experience with the game
>be fairly new and shit
>japs land all across shore, breaking northern frontline and pushing me back deep into the country
>create a retreat line or whatever it's called, we manage to hold that
>nips start starving and running low on supplies due to muh glorious lack of roads
>get all the decisions for manpower, designed for these situations
>start pushing them back, punching holes in their front and encircling because fuck huge numbers
>drive them off the mainland
>start working on transport ships
>kick them out of Korea
>land a few units on their shitty little island
>they capitulate
My heart was racing the entire time
Play CK2, play a duke or count in Ireland, or skip a few years and play a duke or count in England once the aftermath of the Norman conquest dies down. Just take it easy, maybe conquer a neighbour if Irish, and focus on your dynasty
not grand strategy
It was HoI4 Easy Mode: The Game so it doesn't count user
Real men play HoI3, or better yet, HoI2
Whatever it is, it's the best at it.
I played HOI3 a fair bit, but my game went buggy as fuck and even with reinstalls it still fucks up.
Italy disappears after the "Trains run on time" event. Like, the entire nation stops existing. All their land becomes impassable, and owned by nobody. I think even reinstalling on a different computer fucks up
That's a shame. Though seriously, HoI2 has some fantastic variant games out there. If you wouldn't be turned off by the somewhat aged UI I'd really recommend it. Arsenal of Democracy, Darkest Hour, Kaiserreich. All brilliant games. HoI4 just... doesn't do many things right
Ragusa. Cuck Venice. Change culture in Venice to Croatian.
It's because it's partially an adventure rpg simulator
I try not to save scum, but I feel like sometimes you have to. Like recently I was playing CK2, and an event pops up that one of my vassals is an apostate. I get the option to burn him at the stake, so yea, of course that's what I do. Little do I know, he's some distant relative of mine, and boom, hit with the Kinslayer trait. Guess I should have figured that, but the tooltip doesn't mention it, and the blood drop wasn't on his portrait. So fuck it, I'm scumming.
it's Sims: Medieval done right
How come there still isn't a Cold War grand strat. Too close for comfort?
Too small scale to be 'grand'.
Cold War isn't over yet
Fake Answer: "not making war" isn't very fun
If you define cold war that broadly, then there's been a cold war going on for all of recorded history. You can call now cold war 2, but you can't say the cold war never ended.
Only crusader kings ii, the rest are too autistic.
Cold War is MAD
MAD isn't over
Cold War is not over
It's been 20 years since the last historical grand strategy. HOI is too specific.
I can't stop myself from save scum that why I want to try Ironman, but I'm still not sure I should do it since I'm not good at the game.
How can we stop Parajew monopoly on GS?
East VS West
Any grand strategies not made by paracucks?
Burgundy, become Emperor, pass reforms
Milan, fulfill Visconti dreams and becoming Italy. Then go full ham for Rome
Oda, conquer China. Do it before 1582 if possible
Mongolia, reform Big Yuan
Rise of Nations - The Cold War, not grand strat and a lot of it is the RTS but it may scratch the itch
Check out AGEOD games, though they are more warfare oriented
>don't want to save scum
>afraid to play Ironman
I'm stuck in limbo
I'm editing all of SinStar's mods for AGOT to be compatible with Elder Kings SVN
>create a retreat line or whatever it's called, we manage to hold that
>nips start starving and running low on supplies due to muh glorious lack of roads
This is literally every single war against the braindead AI
You just hold line till they are out of supply and then steamroll them to annexation
...
I don't see what else they could have done desu. They didn't just stand there at first because they had marine landing, and it was too early in the game to use paratroopers.
Doesn't that just describe most wars of attrition, like Barbarossa?
The Ai cant handle anything in hoi4, it will utterly fail and suffer from undersupply and then keeps on attacking anyways till its out of manpower
You can easily defeat the USSR as Estonia in this game
>played CK2 to death and looking for a new game
>knowledge of history doesn't really go beyond age of discovery
>everyone is saying that EU4 is shit
god damn it, what is some good book on Victorian era? I don't want to buy a game about a period before I learn a bit about it
Wikipedia motherfucker
eh, I was hoping there was a good history book especially something from that period, but ok
It's 4X not grand strategy.
>everyone is saying that EU4 is shit
Try it. It's casual fun, you might like it.
Played a lot of CK2, decided to try and get back into EU4 after a couple of years, but it doesn't feel right, so I gave up.
Waiting for stellaris update, but I guess that's not a real GS.
Czechoslovakia in HoI4. Hold your borders, and watch 1:100 German kill/death ratio due to your level 10 forts, maximum entrenchement and all possible defensive buffs.
Try EU3 you stupid idiot
Vanilla Vicky 2 had a massive rebel problem. If you haven't passed all the reforms by 1880, you would have civil war every two or so year. Solution: play the modded game.
Eu4 is pretty fun. It's more like a board game than the other paradox games, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Anyone telling you to play Eu3 is memeing.
is MEIOU and taxes good?
that's a problem only in non-European fronts
In Europe, the problem most nations have is the lack of lasting power due to how retreating once starts a cascading effect where attackers aren't penalized but defenders are as they lose entrenchement.
It triggers me how everything is so gamey in EU4. Pushing buttons to spend some abstract resource on improving a bunch of numbers.
A war by definition has to end when one of the combatant states no longer exists.
Modern Russia is not the same state as the Soviet Union
MEIOU and taxes is notoriously hard to run especially late game, but it's really good if you can
I used to play EU3 as Novgorod Republic. Claimed some russian clay, pissed off all my neighbors and stopped there because the fighting before gunpowder is annoying as fuck in this game.
Also started a new game as Italia in Darkest Hour, raped Ethiopia and stopped there because HoI is extremely autistic about declaring wars. Of course there is also the option to straight out allow everyone to start wars against anyone, but this ends up in a clusterfuck where every single country on earth joins the war in 1936.
Wrong see Hoi4 is a broken game
Yeah, HoI3 is completely fucked.
I bought it in a bundle with all the DLC back in the day for ten bucks and it crashed on me every 5 minutes. Never refunded a game faster.
Some time later I bought Darkest Hour and it was a much better experience overall. It does not look as good and does not have the same number of provinces, but it is infinitely more polished.
>its 4X
Kek no, do not sully the name of 4X like that.
It is a glorified board game.
>Bitching about shit that has already been fixed by mods
If PD had any sense they would hire this guy
steamcommunity.com
How do I into Industrialisation in Victoria 2?
TFW too much of a brainlet to wrap my head around their games
Patches and the expansions have since fixed all that nonsense but at this point good enough mods have come out there is no real reason to play vanilla
Ironman or no?
I don't really care about achievements but I also don't want to savescum.
There is a big difference between being strategically complex and having excessive granularity and terrible quality of life features.
Part of the reason Paradox has no competition is people like Slitherine are still perfecly content to release a game with a UI from 1991
The old tactic of getting your ass handed to you in the first few games together with consulting the manual occasionally worked well for me
Not necessarily cold war, but Superpower 2 was a fun game in the modern setting. It is more of an economy simulator than anything, but it has certainly the toolset of a cold war game. You do not win the game by fighting huge wars, but by jewing everyone else out of their market share and manipulating the competition into joining wars.
There was a game where I conquered the world as Switzerland because I pushed the USA and China into a nuclear war by framing the chinks for a terrorist attack on US soil. Both of their markets crashed and I started to heavily invest in the holes they left behind, while also pushing my European neighbors into useless wars in 3rd world. Had the whole world sucking my dick for gibs in no-time.
>Anyone telling you to play Eu3 is memeing.
They are really not you casual trash
That's not always true tho, take the consolidation of the French dictatorship and the fact that it happened while the country was at war with half of Europe.
>playing Hoi4 with anything other than Kaiserreich or some other full conversion mod
does it add concentration camps?
Had a lot of fun playing Florence
Dropping in here to confirm that this guy is a casual baby just as claims.
dam makes u think how much more immersive HOI4 would be with ruler or general portraits
What's the problem with EU4? For me it's like a polished EU3 with more features.
...
No, its a world where the Germans won ww1 and the world is divided between syndicalists and mostly monarchies/autocracies. The focus trees really put paradox to shame due to how in depth the modders have made them. genocide doesn't fit into Hoi4 very well but Vicky2 has mods like HPM that add it if you want to be edgy
Ahhh Hearts of Iron 2...Good times
>"not making war" isn't very fun
Faggots like you are the reason why Paradox made EU IV and HoI4 shit tier blobfests.
>you can expel jews in CK2
>you can't even segregate them in HOI4
you do realize expel the jews decision in CK2 is just a politically correct word for slaughtering them
Liquoria isnt that deep or complicated, tax 100% make armies to limit. There you go.
