Do you agree with the following statement?
>The quality of games should be judged independently from its creators. Even if I strongly disagree with the creator's opinions or lifestyle, if their game is good, I appreciate its quality.

I don't remember this scene from my Japanese chess anime.
Games should be judged independently from their creators provided the creators don't shoehorn their beliefs into said game.
This On the other hand, I find it pretty hard to enjoy Fez given the shithole it came from.
I agree with this post.
100% yes. You absolutely should separate the creator from their product when judging them for quality.
Deciding on whether to support the product is a different story.
I can appreciate the quality of a game, and still refuse to play it, because the creator is a piece of this.
What a stupid thing to say
If said beliefs are shoehorned into the game, then you can still judge the game independently of its creators and say you don't like those beliefs expressed in it.
Oh look, it's the Sup Forumsshit from the other thread.
I have no idea who you are, user. And I don't care.
What he said. Many people are very vocal about the idea of wanting to insert politics, many do it for publicity.
Too many people have fallen for the stupidity of treating the entertainment industry as some sort of church where facebook addicted women worship. These pproducers have young women sucking their cocks for roles in private and then proclaiming to be feminists in public and the media moves so fast the gormless facebook slobs haven't noticed. Yasssss Queen at the Golden Globes.
They are businesses that make and sell products to us the consumer. No more, no less.
what's going on in this wemb? is it loss?
>Creator's shouldn't believe in things I don't agree with, or have thoughts I don't like apear in things THEY created, this makes the game bad
Please kys, and make the world a better place
Do they fuck?
>putting words in peoples mouths
You can judge a game negatively or positively either way.
I tried watching this and stopped after like 5 episodes because it was too fucking boring. I liked the authors previous work and I'm ok with shogi shows but goddamn shaft was trying to monogatari it and the show did not have the pacing for that. Has it gotten better? It seems more popular now than when it started.
if I found out a video game creator was a pedophile and was using money from his game to fund underage rape parties in the Philippines, I wouldn't buy their game.
The word "shoehorned" comes with implications that it was forced into the game for no apparent reason. If it fits the narrative and the game's themes, that's a different story.
>100% yes. You absolutely should separate the creator from their product when judging them for quality.
>Deciding on whether to support the product is a different story.
Agreed. You should be honorable enough to give credit where credit's due. But that doesn't mean anyone is entitled to your money.
The Hinata bullying arc really stepped up the game. Shit's intense as fuck. Nobody was expecting it You could say it came in like a lion
"Shoehorned" is a buzzword word for "present in any way and I personally don't like it", around these parts, and subjective to each person in normal society, or do you not know where we are?
If something is "forced" for no apparent reason it'll show in the game, and you can dislike the game for it, instead of creating an arbitrary exception for dismissing the game.
It depends, really. twenty years ago? Sure, totally doable. Nowadays even games iwth MASSIVE fucking teams have frontmen that basically become the face of the game. That overwatch guy is a great example, what a smug fucking cocksmoker, and his personal political agenda which no doubt does NOT encompass the ideologies of all staff members, are thrust upon them. It's frustrating as shit but that's how things develop. I've avoided buying games because of it. fez is a good example. phil fish did almost no coding in the game and having played it years later for free from some giveaway, I realized it was a solid game, but I let my prejudice against that smarmy fuck and NOT wanting to support him get in the way of my thoughts on the game.
>I hate Fez because the creator did something in his private life that doesn't affect me in the least hurr durr even though Fez is one of the most innovative platformers in modern gaming era I'm such a retard hurr hurr
You Sup Forumsshits should really stay contained in your shitty fucking board.
I want to use Bioware as an example of this.
Dragon Age Origins: You find out Zevran is gay (or bi? I don't remember) only after really getting to know him. He eventually comes out to you and if you refuse it's not brought up again.
Mass Effect 3: You have a crew member that just won't shut up about how gay he is and how much he misses his boyfriend. You get an entire cutscene or two revolving around this character and his homosexuality. This was Bioware's first real step towards diversity for the sake of diversity. Also see Dragon Age Inquisition in which a "Fully gay party member" was marketing / advertising material.
Im in bed with yer mum.
No, the quality of games should be judged based on the cuteness of the girls therein.
dad pls go this is my Sup Forums time
Second season
This, but unironically.
>Dragon Age Inquisition in which a "Fully gay party member" was marketing / advertising material.
The actual character was fine in-game though.
Im doing the memes, din dins ready btw also are you winning?
>Only an issue when it comes to beliefs I disagree with.
Nailed it.
That should be counted as the game quality at least in my opinion. If you don't like the characters then it would have a negative affect on the gameplay.
For me I cant think of a game I wouldn't play solely because of the creators. Even then you could Pirate get a used copy buy a key from g2a or at most wait for a sale somewhere. If you really hated the creator.
'creators' can be a broad word, I could hate specific writers but I can obsess over a voice actor or concept artist.
>quality of games should be judged independently from its creators
If you mean personal opinions and politics, only if the game does not have those opinions forced into the game. If some lead designer is known to force their political anti-whatever pro-whatever bullshit, then I will view any game that person works on in the future with a far more critical eye.
If a game designer fucks dolphins but the game lacks any sort of pro-dolphinfucking propaganda (and is good), then I don't have a problem.
I don't fucking care about people. The game is the only thing I pay attention to because that is what I'm paying money for. The people who made it can fuck right off most of the time.
Japs are shit at chess. Norway on the other hand... Has actually intelligent people.
I agree with the second statement, not the first. They are mutually exclusive. Games are always more than the sum of their parts, but to exclude the creator as a part of that whole is asinine. I wholeheartedly agree that games should be judged on their own merits and goals, but I disagree that the creator or studio needs to be excluded in understanding a game as a whole. This isn't like literature where you can kill the author, an understanding of a games creative force is crucial to appreciating and understanding the whole of the work.
Are Pollock or Warhol separated from the quality of their work? No. Are Tolkien and Martin? No.
> wanting to insert politics
"politics" is usually code for "nonwhites and women" around these parts
Because they play shogi, not chess. Makes sense they wouldn't be great in general at it.
To a certain degree I'd say yes, but there are special outliers like Phil Fish or Manveer Heim that exist, just complete fucking assholes who I don't want to support at all.
Yes. Here are two examples straight from the playbook
>Joe McAryan is a racist, transphobic, misogynistic, autistic man who put his heart and soul into making a game that the public consider taboo but many fap to behind closed doors and enjoy.
Joe is murdered by libcucks in social media and all reviewers bandwagon together for virtue signalling points. His game is barred from most distributive platforms because companies fear the angry mob.
>Xer Snowflake Of DragonKin is a misandrist, pro white genocide, progressive stack exploiting, public shaming, manipulating, denouncer of facts and enemy of free speech. Xer pours its heart and soul into a game so bloated with politics that it might as well be a manifesto of its beliefs but otherwise has good gameplay and original ideas.
Xer is given access to all platforms because companies are forced to comply, but most customers suspect so as well and conclude it must be trash because of it.
Tldr Just play games and shut the fuck up
Yes
I enjoyed Undertale even though Toby Fox leans to the left. A good game will thrive regardless of the political beliefs of the creators. On the other hand, Brianna Wu's Rev64 was shit. No amount of pandering to SJWs will save that game.
I want to agree, but I am too much of a petty asshole.
I feel this way about video games, tv, and comics. If there's someone associated with the project that I don't like, then I can't enjoy it. Like, I want to watch Jessica Jones on Netflix because I want to see more Krysten Ritter, but I can't because I hate Jones' creator that much
Luckily, there are plenty of creators and devs I do like and enjoy, so I just consume what I like and pay for what I support.
What did Phil Fish do?
Piss off a lot of Sup Forumsshits
Nobody said that they shouldn't inject ideology, you fucking retard, just that it opens them up to criticism of said content.
He take the money and run
tell people to 'suck my dick, choke on it' and tons of other faggotry.
I hate him because he's a westaboo who thinks every Japanese game ever made is shit, when clearly just about the opposite is true for anything that isn't a shooter or strategy game.
He was a smarmy fuck who was so rude and caustic to the relationship he had with the actual coder for fez that he ruined their business partnership and real life friendship, causing a good 2-3 years of delay to fez.
Have you been reading resetera again?
He's a narcissist hipster who cancelled the sequel to a good game because he got pissy at some haters. Hardly had to do with /po/, he didn't go full SJW until later.
yeah
tim schaffer is a huge cunt and i don't want a cent of my money going to him, not specifically because of his political beliefs but because of the way he acts. not to mention he's a total fucking conman who tried to set up some bullshit crowdfunding service where you "invest" in a game for a payout but buried in the fine print is a bunch of shit that basically says you aren't actually entitled to any money.
As a girl this post is extremely offensive
Tits or GTF-.... Fuck
I only don't judge a game based on the creators beliefs, so long as those beliefs align with my own. But I'll insist I don't have the bias lol.
Yes, remember that Christian site where they rate games based ln secular and Christian POV?
Lisa: The Painful is a perfect example. Shit SJW dev but amazing game. Its almost weird how the first game goes against everything Austin stands for. I think he moved more towards pc culture after the first game because the second game was kinda just strong womyn: the game
This
I don't generally pay attention to the opinions or lifestyle of game developers.
Christ Centered Gamer is legitimately one of the best video game review sites around, pretty shocking.
Also some of the staffers there browse Sup Forums.
