Is Subnautica the under-water not-shitty No Man's Sky version?

Is Subnautica the under-water not-shitty No Man's Sky version?

They are pretty different. Subnautica has a handcrafted world, not random, for starters.

more like soynatuica

Nope, Subnautica is handcrafted, has a story that keeps you invested, actual threats that keep you tense all the way to end game, and can claim to be the best underwater game ever.

No, it's the first-person resource survival game that actually nailed it, and somehow distinguished itself from the bucket of first-person resource survival games it was competing against.

> Handcrafted.

>nigger version of Markiplier

>has a story that keeps you invested

I still can't get over how good the story is for Subnautica, it never felt like it was tacked on.

>That
>Black or even mixed

He's South-East Asian, my man.

I actually really like the look of this guy for some reason. Seems like a typically chill guy that gets thrown into some shit he really doesn't wanna deal with.

not a fan of the blue highlights, but yeah it's a solid design for a protagonist

...

>Never felt tacked on
The story is literally ancient aliens.

this thread is full of shills

Yeah, the story took me by complete surprise. It felt so well entwined with the general game-play, and vice versa. Really wish other games could meld them together so wonderfully like that.

You're some unlucky dude that got tagged by an automated defense system and now must get off the planet while contending with a degrading reactor and an infectious disease. Sure, it's ancient aliens, but it works.

I just finished building my first base, it's on a cliff overlooking the mushroom forest. Computer lady told me that the Aurora's engines would irradiate the biomes near it and kill lots of indigenous lifeforms so I tried to go shut down the engines but my moth got wrecked (twice) by a big-ass sea snake. I guess that guy is the big bad Leviathan you're always talking about?
Anyway the Sunbeam is coming to pick me up in 25 minutes so the game will just have to end with leaking radiation, I tried.

im an unironic Sup Forums user and this snippet just makes me sad

Well, you tried man. Do enjoy the wonderful ending, just make sure you're at the spot so you can see the ship landing to pick you up. You don't wanna be late!

Is Subnautica and Darkwood at all similar?

Yeah I know man. Game was way shorter than I thought though. I never got deeper than 243 meters since I didn't know the ending would be on a time-limit.

That's a setting, not a story.

Remember: This game has no weapontry because the developer posted a long rant about mass shootings and how he hates any game that features guns.

>Anyway the Sunbeam is coming to pick me up in 25 minutes so the game will just have to end with leaking radiation, I tried.

Shit, really? You're not going to get the best ending then, that leaking radiation's going to fuck the planet up. Tell us how you like it, you're only 25 minutes away.

Oh hush, the game has no weaponry because it would've ruined the game.

At least you'll get to go home.

i'm so glad this game doesn't have guns, although a speargun might've been the only exception

No one cares.

So what? Many games don't use weapons and are as fun

Yeah. Shame about all that debt I incurred though. How long does it take to pay off millions of credits?

> Video games proven time and time again to not cause violence.
> Now developers are Jack Thompson.

Someone post the video of the guy using a spear-gun and getting his catch stolen by bigger fish.
>I SEE YOU!

>How long does it take to pay off millions of credits?

You're pretty much a wageslave to Alterra, so the rest of your life.

How is this different from what the MC was before the crash?

One day perhaps your great-great-great grandchildren will finally manage to pay off the last of it.

Exactly!

Such is life in the mega-corps.

Yeah those names are awful, I feel bad for them as well.

I've seen worse

The future sucks. Bet they won't even let me keep the purple alien thingie I found in the ruined settlement.

>expecting to keep weird aliens gubbins from your debt collectors

Settings are integral to many good stories, user. If you can't differentiate the parts that are action within the setting, you may be retarded.

>Bet they won't even let me keep the purple alien thingie I found in the ruined settlement.

You should hold onto that, it might come in handy.

>mfw Alterra is so corporate they view relationships as business contracts
>mfw the PDA log where a woman breaks up with her girlfriend because the chads over in the PRAWN bay offered to take her for a ride

Remember: This user is a faggot who posts lame bait in every thread.

If it wasn't so big I'd consider concealing it in a body cavity.
Or maybe he's just a redneck who has been intimidated by the fact that you can't shoot the ocean.

> how he hates any game that features guns.

Except that's wrong? Yeah the dev went on a gay rant about guns but he never said he hated any game with guns. Hell their last game was natural selection 2 which had guns

>you can't shoot the ocean
We must therefore punch the sea into submission.

Makes you wonder, why even go back?

Only total fucking retards say this

You're right. The Sunbeam doesn't KNOW I'm alive. I've got all the power I need from solar panels, I've got plants I can farm in my base, I've got water everywhere and if I just keep on collecting gold, silver, lithium and diamonds I could theoretically become a millionaire. If I just could figure out who to sell that shit to.
There's a flaw in this plan but at least it lets a man live free and die hard.

Just put it all under your mattress and start posting on /biz/ about your gains.

You're an absolute retard but the game actually could use a speargun, not just for hunting but because there are plenty of potential uses for tethering things

Oh you

>There's a flaw in this plan but at least it lets a man live free and die hard.

The flaw is Alterra owns you and all that shit is technically theirs.

Also no entertainment.

me on the left in a prawn suit whenever i see a sandshark infested area

>no entertainment
I saw a peeper and a floater mate. Or maybe they were trying to eat each other, I don't know.

Your best bet is to stay on the planet and try to fuck as many fish as possible. Technically cross species breeding shouldn't be possible but these are alien fish we're talking about so you might get lucky. From there you can start creating an entirely new race of human fish hybrids and establish a new civilization on the planet

Should I buy this game right now or wait for a sale?

i got a solid 40 something hours out of it so far and i still haven't beaten the game. it's definitely worth it, sale or not imo

It won't be on sale for a while, I'd just buy it now.

Wait for a sale. It’s got a lovey as fuck world, good crafting, great environments and lore, graphics, control...

... but it’s just boring as fuck. It doesn’t challenge you, nor does it require stragetic thinking. You just swim, come up for ozygen, pick up things and swim further out. It’s like a much more developed Poor Man’s Sky.

The hardcore mode where you only have one life was the only way I wnjoyed it. (And despite not beating it and rage quiting, I loved it)

It only just "released" so it likely won't be on sale again until summer sales, if that is a consideration.

>The hardcore mode where you only have one life was the only way I wnjoyed it. (And despite not beating it and rage quiting, I loved it)

Never, ever touch the other modes until you've beaten the game in Hardcore Mode.

who cares it's a first person game anyway

Just get it now and join us under the waves. Don't be a pussy, there's nothing in the sea that will hurt you.

that seal is cute! C U T E!

Only thing missing is finding the blueprints to transfer your computer lady into a sexbot.

Thanks, guys. I'll buy it right now and play it on Hardcore Mode first, then.

Good luck, user, and get ready to get wet!

Sunbeam's inbound. Is that really all there is to this game? Bit of a gyp price-wise compared to Sup Forums's hype.

oh my sweet user

goddamn this looks SO much better than the new movie.

What do you think of the alien ruins?

>ruins
There's more than one?

I didn't get very deep though.

Well I mean, there's the one you're at right now. Do you have enough time to give it a look? What's the timer at.

Yup, these Jaegers have a real sense of weight, momentum, being made of metal.

New ones are like some power-rangers anime made of plastic

I haven't even seen it's shitty trailers, I am so goddamn mad about it.

Zero.

Keep us posted user

Alright anons, how do I get over my fear of the giant aquatic monsters in this game?

I can't even follow through on a decent run through any area with leviathans without backing out. How do I get over them or learn to tolerate their shit?

We did it. We saved the city.

Realise death doesn't matter and stop caring.

Then realise that Seamoths are expensive when you have to keep replacing them and start caring again.

Terrifying games that nail both survival and crafting with a well integrated story? Yes actually they are basically the same game.

>not-shitty
>Unity
No, it's still shitty.

Yeah, that's where the root of the problem is. Do I just get the perimeter defense to get reapers to fuck off? The cunts are pretty fucking annoying to deal with otherwise.

Dodging and weaving and the perimeter defense are the Reaper fuck off method, a single blast from the defense system makes them hurry off real quick allow you to putter off.

What are you going to do now, user?

Go deeper.

I think one of the spookiest things you can do is go to the max depth your Cyclops will allow then just drive away from the map into the infinite abyss. It's so fucking quiet.

wrong

How's the rescue coming along user? They pick you up yet?

DO NOT READ THE SPOILER TEXT UNLESS YOU KNOW THE WHOLE STORY OF THE GAME ALREADY.
I'M FUCKING WARNING YOU.

IT RUINS ALL THE FUN OF EXPLORATION AND DISCOVERY.

I'm so fucking pissed that I spoiled the story for myself.

If I know the following things:
1. Sunbeam is doomed
2. Planet is under quarantine by alien railguns
3. You're infected with a mind control disease
4. You need to hatch Sea Emperor eggs to cure yourself

Is there anything left in the story to surprise me? I'm still going to play through the game to get the experience but FUCK I am annoyed. I know these things because I was told them but I haven't experienced anything of the game.

I never thought dark blue could get so oppressive until it fills up my screen.

>Is there anything left in the story to surprise me?

You're missing like two or three things, but you've listed the most surprising ones.

As someone who has disliked Ark, Rust and The Forest, is subnautica a recommended buy?

I've started two new games, each time unable to find any way to craft filtered water. I got as far as repairing the pod, scanning shit left and right, crafting a shitload of fiber meshes because that was the only thing I could think might trigger the blueprint (since the description of the filtered water you start out with is "filtered with an organic membrane"). So I'm giving up and asking for help on this basic task. Nobody else seems to have trouble with it, and this is the first time I've actually played an early access open world survival crafting game so maybe there's some standard practice in the genre that it's assumed everyone knows?

Catch Bladderfish.

There's still just exploring the environs and meeting cool seacreatures user.

And even when you know everything the ocean is still terrifying

Bladderfish give you filtered water.
Bleach which comes from salt and something else gives you purified water.

It's in the water.

I hated Rust but I like Subnautica, they're entirely different games.

I dont remember him having dyed highlights in the hair
