For anyone wanting to try out G2, I advise you do it *without* the Night of the Raven expansion installed
Unlike modern expansions Night of the Raven is more of a overhaul of the first few acts of the game, designed to make it more in detail.. but much harder. The expansion was designed around people who had already played Gothic II to death and knew all of the tricks already.
If you are brave, here are some tips that should help you on your first playthrough
>At the start of the game save up gold, then you will want to spend about 1050 gold at the red-robed Priest of Innos by the exit gate. He will nearly double your health permanently from the buffs you get. Make sure to donate in portions of 50 ( Not 100 )
>Open up your character tab and you will see your stats. Your most important attributes at the start are Strength and your weapon skills. When you hit a enemy your strength score is added to the damage ( A crit ), if you DONT crit your damage is instead DIVIDED BY TEN. This can lead to most enemies one hit killing you if you did not donate to the priest of innos due to them having maximum weapon skill.
>As soon as you get to the first city find the mage in the slums - then, if you have NotR installed you can purchase then use the transformation scrolls ( w + left click to transform, enter to cancel ). The transformation scrolls SET your level temporairly to something much, much higher. This can let you clear the roads and gain 5-6 levels at the very start of the game, removing the most difficult portion of the game.
>You can practice combat on the people in the harbor, they won't mind if you beat them up in cold blood.
