I think "gamer gear" like those alien looking chairs and headphones and shit are gay as fuck. I don't mind competitive gaming or having tournaments and stuff, but the way people take esports shit so seriously is sickening. Especially because most of those people hardly seem to play any other game. They're just into it because everyone else is and it's becoming mainstream. People who only play moba shit disgust me.

I play games most days and own a 'battlestation' but I'd never say 'hi I'm user and I'm a GAMER'.

I like to think I only buy tasteful 'gaming' stuff that prioritises performance and build quality over flashy lights and logos.

Normies have ruined the hobby. FIFA, CoD, Madden etc have effectively ruined it for a dedicated hobbyist because now everyone wants to be the annual thing normies buy or the FoTM. The result is products which don't have gameplay as the focus and instead focus on either 1) Jewing people for cash or 2) Conveying a "feeling"- ie shit that is memorable to people and gets word of mouth. I understand companies exist to make money and games can evoke power emotions but devs can't see the forest through the trees anymore and more importantly they don't care to.

I pretty much play nothing but Neverwinter Nights roleplay servers now.

You can nab a decent one at 800. I spent 1,000-1,200 on my current PC. It's 8 years old, still can run games at high settings and rarely has FPS drops.

That is true however since there was nothing else you could possibly do in a video game at the time but have gameplay devs were basically forced to focus on that. I also admit arcade machines we're designed to make as much money as possible but keep in mind until the 1990s video games were largely a novelty to everyone but kids so the market was not there to rape.

Conveying a feeling isn't bad, using feelings as the main selling point of a game is. Case in point is the Last of Us. Gameplay is alright but I don't feel it is worthy of the praise it gets because of its story because the gameplay mechanics are meh. But shit like that resonates with normies so it will be invested in instead of stuff that has meatier gameplay.

Modern gaming culture is what happens when society has alienated men from the time their were little boys. They refuse to grow up. They buy toys. They spend thousands of dollars a year on them. PC gamers are the worst because they buy more powerful hardware than they will ever use. Then they come to Sup Forums or other websites to brag. The worst part is that a lot of gamers don't actually play with the toys they buy. It's a weird kind of participation in popular culture mixed with obsessive consumerism. It's not unusual to read "gamers" justifying their childish obsession by saying that grown ups can do whatever they want to do. Often pretending that they actually have their life together when they don't have any real world responsibilities, and when they do, they neglect them. It's not something to be proud about, and deep down inside they know it's true.
