I finally decided to get a ps4, so I can now play Bloodborne. I previously played Demon's souls and Dark souls 1, I even platinumed the former. Any tips, advice, etc for a semi-beginner, since I heard Bloodborne tricks players that have some experiece with souls games.
Bloodborne thread
Be way more agressive than in souls games, learn 2 parry with your gun asap.
Don't expect to be blocking anything, the game is all about dodging.
BE
AGRESSIVE
Which gun should I choose at the beginning? the pistol or the blunderbuss? Which one is better for parrying?
Parrying - Blunderbuss
Damage - Pistol
Don't bother, its legacy has already been destroyed by a Thai prostitute-loving Algerian who platinumed the game in only 10 days, having gone in blind and never played a souls game before
game is 6/10 at best. overrated garbage
can you hold a gun in each hand?
No 1 Trick Weapon in your right hand.
1 gun in the left hand.
I suggest having 1 gun and your other offhand slot for the torch > then hunters torch.
You get 2 slots for each hand.
You'll understand when you start playing.
Which melee weapon should I choose at the beginning? Which one is the best to start with?
cane
Hunters Axe if you like to swap from 1handed to twohanded battle-halberd thing.
Saw Cleaver is the more natural choice for a starter.
Threaded Cane may be too weak for a noob at the beginning, as it transforms from cane to whip.
Hunters axe is my favorite as its the hardest hitting, but the saw cleaver is easier to pick up and learn, and it gets 20% damage bonus against beasts when tricked I think.
the saw is an all around solid choice
the axe is for brute strength and attack
the threaded cane for ranged tricky dicky antics.
I'd recommend the saw first as a newcomer
Are you sure? I heard it was shit.
it scales extremely strongly with skill stat
it might be a bit weak at the start but it's the most interesting of the starter weapons. saw and axe are pretty bland desu
threaded cane isn't great in the beginning, but later in the game it gets fucking beast.
it also doesn't take much stamina to swing, so there's some bosses/monsters you can cheese by hitting them a gorillion times in a row
Yeah DON’T LET OTHERS SPOIL THE GAME FOR YOU.
For fucks sake go just and play it.
Got it, thanks. Any recommendation for the starting class?
Yeah don't listen to him, you need a heavy Skill investment to make it fun.
IT's the interesting choice to start for a bloodborne pro.
Plus it doesnt matter which one you choose because in the second area you get a Saw Spear. Not gonna spoil where.
And IT's pretty damn good.
Anything except Waste of Skin, Cruel Fate, or Noble Scion
Those are speciality classes (deprived, arcane, bloodtinge)
Just pick whichever one suits you.
Just don't go arcane your first playthrough, but definately go arcane your second playthrough.
it doesn't matter too much. Just pick a balanced one for your first go. It's not quite like DS where your starting class effects your starting equipment.
>Saw Cleaver
Pretty much the standard weapon, damage is serrated in non-tricked form which deals extra damage to beast enemies. Scales with strength and skill.
>Hunter's Axe
Slower/more damaging. Scales more with strength than skill.
>Threaded Cane
Faster/less damaging. Tricked form is serrated and has more unique hitbox, is a little tougher to use correctly but not too beginner-unfriendly. Scales more with skill than strength.
Try not to read too many spoilers, this game is best enjoyed blind.
Just this last question and I'll be on my way.
Doesn’t matter really.
>Just don't go arcane your first playthrough, but definately go arcane your second playthrough.
man, I still need to do that at some point. Because Arcane can do some WACKY fucking bullshit
HIT THE ENEMY UNTIL THEY DIE
ARCANE ONLY
GET THE KOS PARASITE AND DON'T WEAR MILKWEED RUNE
Okay, that would be all. I'm gonna go play the game now. Thanks guys.
My Second playthrough I went arcane and it was Waaay different.
Swapping between a Bolt/Fire Ludwig's Holy sword and spamming Augur is fun.
And if you have enough QuickSilver you can cheese some bosses down to half health with Executioner's gloves.
Have fun man, it's a treat of a game.
Here are some tips for you:
> run past every enemy and you won't get touched
> dodging makes you basically invincible
> you'll be gifted items to cheese bosses so make sure you use them
> lock onto the enemy so you never have to worry about accuracy ever again
> read spectres and notes, to be shown and told what to do every step of the way
> don't worry about which weapon to use, just pick one and build it up and you will definitely be able to complete the whole game without ever having to change
> don't waste your time ever doing anything with armour, it's pointless
I went in blind and platinumed it in 10 days, never having played a Souls game before.
The game is inherently very easy.....
> blind
I went in blind and platinumed it in 10 days, never having played a Souls game before.
I did not enjoy though, despite you claiming this is the best way to enjoy the game.
y'know, I'll agknowledge that Bloodborne could be considered easier than Dark/Demons, but it's still a lot of fun and has some really memorable moments and bosses.
It was a refreshing change of pace, lore and style.
Really brought new life into the series.
...
...
>he's here
If you didnt enjoy it then why did you spend the time platinuming it?
Are you that autistic?
Vengeance.
Every time.
trophies and achievements are for autists who can't enjoy a game without being told they 'did something'
Stop trying to get flurries on bosses, you'll always mess up and die
Try to get something with high VIT, honestly.
The biggest mistake I see new players make is that they don't invest enough levels in VIT. Up it to 20 really early and if you're still having problems with the game, up it to 30 or even 40.
Other good things to know about stats are;
Nearly every weapon scales a little off of SKILL and STRENGTH, so Quality Build is okay.
If a weapon lists ARCANE scaling, that means it only gets that extra damage if it naturally does non-physical damage OR if you can give it non-physical damage.
If a weapon lists BLOODTINGE scaling, that means it scales off of BLT only for it's gun-related attacks. There are two notable exceptions to this with weapons called Chikage and Bloodletter, but both of those are lategame weapons.
So basically:
STRENGTH is alright, ups your damage, but that's it.
SKILL ups your damage, but also gives you more visceral attack damage
ARCANE can up your damage if you modify a weapon to have elemental damage via the bloodgem system in the game. Almost any weapon can be modified this way, so ARC gets access to more weapons than just STR or SKL alone. ARC also gives you access to spells, which are items that consume bullets to cast. DO NOT SELL THOSE ITEMS IF YOU FIND THEM. You'll know they are an Arcane Implement because they'll say they have unlimited uses. Finally, ARC also ups damage that said spells do AND increases your item discovery.
BLOODTINGE increases damage that bullets do and affects those two weapons I mentioned before.
Typically, people will pick one of STR/SKL and one of ARC/BLT for their build, but anything works. I highly suggest investing your first levels in VIT and END, only increasing STR/SKL/ARC/BLT to use weapons that you want to try out. Once you find a weapon you love, you can stick with it for literally the entire game and up its respective stats. Diminishing returns usually happen hardest around 50. Notably, Arcane does not see diminishing returns on spells.
>platinumed it in 10 days
>I did not enjoy though
What the fuck is up with you autists and doing this? Who the hell would platinum a game that they didn't enjoy?
To prove that I could.
So now nobody can tell you to git gud when you say you didn't like the game?
As far as what weapon to use, the important thing to note is that EVERY weapon in BloodBorne is viable and can be used all the way through an entire playthrough. The real trick is just finding one you like to use. Instead of making 100 variants of the axe, for instance, there's just that one axe. So if you like the Axe moveset, you just use the one axe.
Saw Cleaver, though, is probably the best weapon in the entire game, but that's because of its relatively high attack speed, damage output, good transformation, and serrated damage bonus. That said, don't feel compelled to use any weapon because it's 'good'. Again, everything is pretty fucking good and if you're smart, you'll invest in two weapons since the game lets you swap weapons anyway and you'll have them for different situations.
Prove to who?
We all think you're a fucking idiot for it.
Prove to yourself?
Go get a different hobby
He's been spamming this for 11 months (anniversary soon), don't try to reason with him
Get IN there. Be aggressive as shit. Time your gunshots so that they hit an enemy as hey are winding up an attack. Let’s you parry them for MASSIVE DAMAGE. Also be aggressive against bosses and npc hunters. Use both weapon modes to the fullest. It really is different from souls. I tried to play this game the same way when i started and got slapped hard. Changing my playstyle helped so much. You also don’t have to worry as muxh about being hit as you have a small window to strike back and regain hp. Blood vials drop like crazy. Also be sure to always spend your extea echoes on vials and bullets so that you don’t have to farm. I thoght farming was annoying at first because I never purhased vials or bullets. You will run out of them. Buy as much as you can frequently agter leveling up and such.
Good luck user, enjoy the game.
If OP happens to be around, the only other two tidbits of non-spoiler advice I can give are:
1. Spend your extra Blood Echoes (souls) on Blood Vials (this game's healing items) every time you go to level up. If you make it a regular routine to buy healing items, you won't run out. A lot of shittier players run out then feel the need to farm vials from monsters, which is tedious. It's always more efficient to just farm Bloodechoes and then buy a ton of vials. Again, just buy vials as you play on a regular basis.
2. Change your starting armor as soon as possible because every armor set has drastically better defenses. After that, though, armor is mostly for fashion and kitting out for specific resistances.
You sure about that? I find the pistol way easier to parry with
I wonder if this is the same guy who shows up in the Arkham threads talking about how shit the games are while bragging that he 100 percented them and posting pics to prove it.
Pistol has a quicker window, but Blunderbuss parry is a little closer to what Souls veterans might be used to. Also, if you mess up with the Blunderbuss, it has a wider range and staggers enemies more often.
Pistol is better for damage, though.
The Blunderbuss works much better for me.
I think the parry windows must stop and start at different times for them.
I parry very well with the repeating pistol though.
I can't parry for shit with the hunter pistol or evelyn. So I just use them on my 25+ Bloodtinge dudes for BONUS damage.
Also yeah that stagger helps if I screw up a parry.
I did my first playthrough with the pistol, so parrying with the Blunderbuss feels awkward to me now.
One thing I didn't realize, even after multiple playthroughs, and it took watching my gf play; you can use guns and hunter's tools/items without stamina. So you can attack until your stamina runs out, then shoot an enemy to stagger/use an item, and as you're doing so, you'll recover stamina.
Makes Blunderbuss and Beast Roar way more effective, imo. It's also cute to run out of stamina and then chuck a molotov at most bosses.
Quick question. I’m following a burial blade build that goes for 20 arcane points. Should i gem it to do bolt damage or for more damage? Are those 20 useless? Ive got 50 dex atm and am buildin up vit to about 30 and am leaving stamina at 25. Not sure what other points to invest. Trying to stay at 120
OP here. Yeah, i'm still around, reading the advices. Good one there by the way, the one about buying blood vials. The other day I was watching a stream of the game and the guy was farming blood vials, he had ran out after dying a bazillion times to a boss named the orphan of kos. That boss seems pretty fucking hard.
Yeah, man, make sure to buy them and quicksilver bullets often. Haven’t had to farm once since I started doing that. OoK will push your shit in, but he is generally fought very late game in the dlc
Bloodborne would be good if it actuall had a plot. It's the closest an rpg can be to not having a plot without turning into a sandbox game.
I'd only gem it for bolt damage if you're not using Tonitrus and want the bolt for very specific boss fights/areas. Otherwise, you're going to get way better damage values just using Nourishing gems.
Stock up before killing a boss, shop prices increase every once in a while
Don't worry about dlc bosses right now, you still have a good interesting first two bosses to fight.
Enjoy
Exactly that, yes.
I've never played that game.
You will want to be dashing through enemy attacks. Lots of enemies have huge forward lunges so get used to using your i-frames.
Also buy blood vials with your spare cash.
Does anyone feel like Souls and Bloodborne aren't really meant to be "hard" games? I banked my souls constantly and never had any trouble with bosses in any of these games.
>Avoid actually 'playing' the game by running past nearly every encounter, gets the easiest plat is Souls franchise
>So I can shit up BB threads any time they happen
get the fuck out. If you don't like the game, don't join into the discussion. No one likes you.
Its all a marketing gimmick that Namco has capitalized on.
Well I’m only using burial blade. I’m guessing i ahouldnt put anything into arcane then?
I thought of another bit of advice I tend to give new players:
1. Most bosses rely on you being terrified of them and backing away. This is because most bosses have really, really powerful long-range attacks and lunges. You're often better off dodging towards a boss and either healing while behind/near them or getting your health back through attacking them after you take damage.
2. A lot of areas early in the game require you to bait out enemies and use the environment to keep enemies from overwhelming you. Typically, if you can bait guys around a corner or up stairs, you'll have an easier time slicing down a narrow corridor of enemies rather than getting flanked and wrecked.
GREAT ADVICE FOR LOW LEVELS
Increasing your ARC is fine, honestly. It's giving you extra item discovery and letting you use Arcane tools, which are great with Burial Blade since when it's transformed, you can't shoot your gun. I highly recommend at least using Augur of Ebrietas and Beast Roar. Augur can be used to set up parry/knockdown situations for you and Roar can be used when you hit 0 stamina and need breathing room.
Burial blade is more of a Quality build. But its not a bad idea if you want to go like 15 Arcane for tools.
I didn't just run past every enemy, quite the opposite in fact.
However the fact that you can just run past every enemy is one of the laughably ridiculous points about the game.
Sorry for talking about Bloodborne in a Bloodborne related thread; if you're so precious that you can't handle opinions that don't agree with yours maybe you should leave the thread and go to another one.
How many points should I put into str then? Was told to focus on dex
Thanks user
>you can just run past every enemy
False.
Pretty much what wrote.
The whole PREPARE TO DIE schtick wasn't really beaten into the ground with DeS and, as a result, the community and discussions tended to be way fucking better without tryhards shitting up threads about how hardcore they are or how 'easy' the game is.
They're fine games that have a bit of a learning curve that people equate to difficulty. Rather, it's a return to form for video games in that it expects the player to actually master its systems instead of handholding them 90% of the way through the game. Doesn't make it hardest shit of all time.
I don't get why you people trick yourselves into discussing all these in depths tactics when all you actually need to do is hammer R1 for every single normal enemy.
I went in blind and platinumed it in 10 days, never having played a Souls game before.
>I didn't run past every enemy!
>States that you can run past every enemy though
>If you don't like me talking about Bloodborne in a bloodborne thread lol you get out
Except you and people like you are never bringing worthwhile discussion to the thread, just shitting things up. No one's acting like the game doesn't have flaws or that it's for everyone. So you had a shit experience with it? Stop being such a goddamn killjoy and move on with your life, you pathetic user.
Oh well, to be honest if you want to focus on physical weapons you could either go 50 skill/25 strength, or 50 strength/25 skill; either one of those work for quality builds and the burial blade can be gemmed for either. So I would say consider getting both to 25 and see whether you like more strength or skill weapons to pair with it.
But yeah otherwise you could always go hard 50 skill and 50 arcane, that's viable too. BB is nice like that where everything has viable weapons.
Here's your (you)
I'm glad that you also agree like me that the game is flawed, thank you.
On that point, what disappointed me most about the game is how easy it was, despite being convinced about how much of a huge challenge it was meant to be.
You millennials will never know.....
You haven't felt true power until you've gone 99 arc
Depends on how comfortable you are with your VIT and END levels. If you don't need the VIT, fuck it, take both to STR/SKL to 50. If you have to have 20+ VIT to make due in the game, then go 50 SKL/25 STR.
FF9 is fucking easy.
Such an easy game. Went in blind and platinumed it in 10 days.
It's true though, which non-boss enemy can't just be beaten by hammering R1? Your health, hilariously, regens as you attack, so it's really the best way.
With bosses you can follow the same rule and beat all with no issues:
> go in for 1 or 2 attacks
> drop back
> wait for blatantly obvious heavy attack from boss which takes it a while to recover from performing
> go back in and attack 1 or 2 more times
> rinse
> repeat
It's really that easy. I figured it out after the first 2 bosses and applied it to every boss thereafter.....
Is it worth having 99arc/15end/30 vit
Or can I have more Vit and stay under bl130
I already have 73 arc and im at bl 100
Is 34 vit viable?
Getting Excalibur 2 isn't hard, it's just annoying. This coming from someone who got it without cutscene skipping on PS1.
The biggest Souls meme is that the games are difficult. It's a goddamn annoyance, too, because threads get derailed constantly by people either trying to prove how great they are by doing XYZ in the game or people shitposting about how not-hard the game is. All of that moves discussion away from the game itself, and it's one of the worst parts of being a fan of the game.
Yes, you can R1 spam your way through most encounters in the game, but it's more fun to think of different strategies and builds and things like that.
E2 run on PAL with no FMV skip or no glitches, no PS2 double disc speed, no turbo controller certainly fucking is not....
Thanks bros.
It is easy. You just follow a guide with no mechanical skill required
Damn bro you're hardcore as fuck, what other hardcore games you've played? Would like to get some recommendations from badass motherfucker right here
Don't really worry about staying a certain level. Stuff like that is only important if you buy into it.
34 Vit is perfectly fine. I hardly take my VIT over 20 anymore, but that's because I'm really familiar with the game. VIT is basically a stat that's there to let you make more mistakes, but once you stop making mistakes, it's a dump stat because it literally doesn't do anything else for you.
Honestly if you're that committed already you might as well go all the way, you can always stack HP runes. I stick at 70 arc personally but 99 is fine too.
No probs, have fun user.
See
There's absolutely zero chance in hell you would ever describe this as not being hard if you'd actually ever done / attempted it....
Do chalice dungeons reset on ng+? About to finish the game and I want to get the trophy but I want to get right back into the chalice dungeons. Will I lose the items needed to access them? Or can I continue from the get go?
Please don't reply to people like that. You just help derail the thread.
