Why did they fail?
Why did they fail?
Prey had shit marketing. DH2 had a garbage launch on all platforms.
dh2 wasnt a financial fail tho
Prey had the problem of using the name of the original Prey. Completely retarded move from a marketing perspective.
>DH
>H
Dishonored is one word you fucking morons.
prey was great but despite putting over 20 hours in the game i got bored and never finished it.
Out of arguments am I right?
Open up some archive DH2 threads you faggot, and see how I'm using it correctly
I really, really hope you aren't being serious right now
prey's marketing was next level bad
they must have had some really awful test audience response if it wasn't sabotage
These two games killed Arkane, though.
eurogamer.net
>soyboy leaves
>its killed
okay
Because Bethesda wanted them to.
/thread
Yes I'm sure the 5 people who gave a shit about the original Prey really affected the sales of the new game.
>prey
literally what
>dishonored 2
female protag
Original Prey was a cult classic.
LOL
>he played dh with the girl
I bought Prey on sale last year for like $10 bucks. Haven't gotten around to installing it yet. Reviews look promising.
I found the new Prey to be incredibly boring. Dishonored 2 was because the PC port was terrible on launch and console performance wasn't much better.
that doesn't even make sense, it's literally your fucking daughter and you can play corvo again if you're gonna be a fag like that
The ending is really cool, you should finish it.
Laugh all you want but it was and a lot of people were upset when the sequel planned for it was scrapped.
oh god you're actually serious aren't you?
They literally sold the amount that should be expected for immersive sims. If they failed it's because the budget is too big and they are being pushed as some blockbuster AAA type game.
Reminder that even classics like Deus Ex only sold about 1 million in the same time that simpler games like Half Life were selling 5+million
...
Because Bethesda marketed Prey wrong and Dishonred 2 brought literally nothing new to the table in comparison to Dishonored the former.
It was apparently pretty much a finished game with a lot of ambition, of course we're serious.
the original Prey only sold 250,000 copies, was regarded as a mediocre Quake 4 clone, and was quickly forgotten
nobody gave a shit about Prey 1 or 2 but since this new game was announced contrarians acted like Prey is some kind of classic loved by millions that could be "done wrong"
t. 14 yr old that hasnt played prey 1
>the original Prey only sold 250,000 copies
[citation needed]
Either way, it was a cult classic.
Let's be honest, the devs clearly intended for you to play Emily. Hell, Death of the Outsider confirms that playing as Emily is canon.
>brought literally nothing new
More like it has an awful shite perfomance. Son of a bitch game killed me gpu last week. Wanted to finish is so bad :(
Prey 2 was promised to elevate above the mediocrity, even those who didnt play original Prey were hyped for it.
I will never not be salty at Beth for crushing those dreams.
>t. butthurt contrarians
Prey was stuck in development hell for 10 years. Prey 2 was cancelled because Human Head were incompetent.
>awful shite performance
I played Dishonored 2 on a three year old laptop with zero issues.
>generation Z shitposting intensifies
rushed
they had no idea how to market Prey just look at this
youtube.com
they bopth could have used an extra 6 months in the oven, dishonoured 2 because of the technical problems and Prey for more balance tuning and polish, it's really obvious that the survival systems were ripped out last minute
never had any problems with it on the technical side
>720p
>30fps
>laptop
>gaming
Also. What config
>DH2 had a garbage launch on all platforms
It worked well on consoles and awful on PC.
Prey on other hand was great on PC and needed 2 patches (which deleted your saves) to work on consoles.
Both great games, liked Prey more tho.
RIP Arkane, you was too good for this world
You still haven't provided a source. Whether you like it or not the OG Prey was a classic.
>Bethesda didn't have one successful game last year even though they're all good games
Says fucking who? Nobody said it was classic until this new game came out.
Do you not know what cult classic means you fucking new age autist? Number of copies sold has no fucking relevancy on whether something is a cult classic or not.
Fuck off you 15 year old shit stain.
Idk. I liked the original prey a lot. I liked the mystery and like... idk. they new prey sucked tons. I felt like the original was story rich, and I really really liked the Native American roots embedded in the plot.
You probably played the game after 10 patches. Still I couldnt hit 60 frames on 1080p with 980 on high
except fucking NO ONE thought it was cult classic you brainlet contrarian
People don't want videogames that aren't either
-Cheap
-Multiplayer
-Open World
Because retard like you still don't understand Bethesda forced Arkane to name it Prey for keeping rights on it. Which, how we see, butthurt people like you.
>Nobody said it was classic until this new game came out.
Not true at all, here's an article from 2009 where it's referred to as a classic.
arstechnica.com
>here's an article from some literal who site that says it's a classic
Not an argument.
Are people still haven't figure that out by now?
I thought it's just a meme to hate it.
Original Prey fans are hilarious
>THERE ARE LITERALLY DOZENS OF US!
Original Prey was a cool game. You might be too Young to get it. I know the feeling when old fags shitpost games from late 80's 90's, and Im just "Man this looks shit"
I actually just finished DH2 a few weeks ago and its retroactively my goty 2016
Prey is great too
I hope Arkane doesn't give up on these types of games
Is this just the inevitable fate of any studio making immersive sims?
>LGS
>Ion Storm Austin
>Arkane
cheap bait
>I hope Arkane doesn't give up on these types of games
The founder of Arkane had to leave the company because these two games bombed so hard and Mankind Divided was also a mega bomb, I wouldn't hold my breath.
It was an unremarkable game with a few gimmicks. God knows where this weird defense force comes from
Dishonored 1 was too easy, didn't bother playing 2. (Yes, I played on the hardest difficulty)
Prey looks like gay shit
Literally every time I bring it up to one of my friends with the same power level as me he says some shit about it and I have to remind him that Arkane's game had literally nothing to do with Prey 2 being cancelled
It had neat guns and an interesting level design with the teleporters and gravity changes but that's it
I bet you play adhd arma coop missions
hell even irrational games
Not sure about Dishonored 2 but Prey is just a painfully mediocre game.
???
>God knows where this weird defense force comes from
When the sequel was cancelled.
This. Played the original when it launched years ago. While I don't think the original Prey was terrible, it wasn't necessarily an amazing game and the sequel honestly didn't look all that special to me.
With that said, I think calling the new game Prey was stupid.
They didn't, both sold reasonably well
Refer to
get owned by bethesda
and not release a spiritual dark messiah 2 open world rpg while borrowing some elements from elder scrolls and doing it better
Also, by sequel I mean the cancelled one and not the 2017 one. The 2017 one was pretty good all around and I enjoyed it.
They're the type of game one plays once then uninstalls. They are also not very long.
Video games go down in price over time, so no one was in a hurry to buy them. Sales will be low, but measurable, for years to come, as people work through their backlog.
I liked both.
how fucking dare you
Arx Fatalis 2 when?
Dark Messiah 2 when?
>Arkane Studios is looking for an Online Game Engineer to join our team in developing AAA games for PC and consoles. The successful candidate will have expert knowledge of and experience in the design, implementation and continuing support of large scale client/server applications using primarily C++. Extensive experience developing online games is required.
it's over
>dark messiah will never have a sequel
>you will never conquer the land with your loving father and devoted succubus waifu
>you will never kick anyone into spikes again
>wanting any of those while Arcane is enslaved by Bethesda
Arcane might as well cease to exist. The best artist can't produce anything worthwhile when you dictate him what he has to create and in what manner
Hope its gonna be some online cardgame
Arkane is dead.
I thought they've got relatively high level of autonomy
anybody here play deus ex multiplayer? Someone needs to make a game like that again.
never
there's essentially no game like arx (or ultima underworld for that matter)
the only exceptions are Underworld Ascendant and that King's Field game that's made by like one person that rarely but consistently shows up in Sup Forumss gamedev threads.
Other stuff is just trash or low quality dungeon crawlers like Dungeons & Darkness or Castle Torgeath.
They do, they are pretty much the only studio that is still doing games in the same design philosophy as LGS.
Because people unironically watch Twitch and play PUBG. Muh community muh friends.
Single player games only have a future as relatively niche AA games for older gamers like myself. See pic related. You budget accordingly and don't set the sales target at 8 million plus.
>was regarded as a mediocre Quake 4 clone
reception was great where'd you get this shit
I never did, describe it to me?
its on youtube.
what these games need is better AI and ai characters. As a kid I loved messing with the NPCs thinking I was being clever.
Because they're both poor entries in their genres inferior to games that came out before them. If they offered something new, anything, they could stand a chance, but both were vanilla as fuck
While i enjoyed dishonered 1 the story wasnt all that interesting so logically, i didnt give a shit about anything dishonored after finishing the basegame of the first and gameplay became kinda stale anyway, i expect 2 to not have changed anything in that regard. Prey is just too generic. Pretty great the first time around but doesnt have any replayability nor does it stand out in any way with anything it does.
>vanilla
what a soyboy term
This.
desu hardest difficulty in dishonored 1 is basically the normal difficulty in 2.
Soyboy is a pretty vanilla term
Well in the case of Dishonored 2 it was a stealth game, and normies aren't interested in stealth games. Prey I dunno, maybe not enough guns or things to shoot? I think they should've pushed the "bioshock in space" angle harder to get normies on board.
nobody cares about dishonored and nu-Prey was garbage only shillbois like.
