How do I git gud at this? Demons are constantly fucking me over at negotiations, I don't know which spells to keep and which to dump and I'm instagibbed the moment I miss my surprise attack. Fusing sounds like another issue I'm probably going to have a hard time with along the way.
Don't want to stop though since it seems like a solid game if you get into it.
>missing surprise attacks Fuse as much as you can and save up app points for the skill expanders
Ayden Turner
most difficult part of the game is the beginning
try to have physical+magic+healer demons
grind a few demons to unlock their skills if you must
immediately fuse for better demons with newly unlocked skills
don't treat this as a pokemon clone, you're constantly supposed to keep fusing with every MC 1-2 level increases, normally i'd fuse an entire new team each 2-3 levels.
Wyatt Stewart
using single target attacks, kill all but one demon and then negotiate with that one so you don't get fucked of negotiations fail when fusing, the most important thing is new moves (___la, me__la, dyne, me____dyne) and the second most important is stats. fuse at least once every dungeon to stay ahead of the curve the moves on your own character barely matter but just level one or two stats and get moves that benefit from that stat
Benjamin Sanchez
never ever give a demon money during negotiation >but what if- EVER
I can't confirm it but from other people's accounts and my own experiences I feel like if you give a demon money their chance of just running off with your shit increases by 90%
Also pump MAG/AGI and dont touch str, dex, or luck if you want to be a sheer god statwise
Also early game is going to be an rng mess where enemies instawipe your party because of bullshit crits and you will have no way to counter it. Its probably my biggest gripe with the game but just keep going it balances out and the chances of instawipes happening disappears pretty soon
Aiden Butler
You are thinking too much Just keep a healer around and then a wide array of elemental spells, your party is huge so there is no problem And fuse as much as you can What spells you keep on the MC doesnt really matter as long as it doesnt overlap with another demon“s
Anthony Bennett
>Demons are constantly fucking me over at negotiations Refuse first, cheat second, end talks third is the best strategy; it's mostly RNG but this combines best probabilities and doesn't make you waste stuff, only use this for negotiations. > I don't know which spells to keep and which to dump Decide a build and go for it, I hear physical build can be pretty good and fun, but magic is usually preferred because you can tackle all weaknesses this way Basically, just have one skill of every element, I usually kept the strongest mono-enemy attack >Fusing sounds like another issue I'm probably going to have a hard time with along the way. Whenever you hit a level check whether you can fuse new demons, and whenever you hit a wall just fuse as needed resistance, skill and whatever, this isn't Persona: check the "use compendium" in the research function, you'll spend a lot of Macca on it most likely
Camden Adams
Keep agi, bufu, zan, and zio magics. Mudo and hama are too unreliable. I recommend a magic build for a first time playthrough, it's easier that way. The recommended stat spread is 3/1/1 magic/agility/luck. Once luck reaches 50, make it 4/1 magic/agility. The idea is keeping Flynn (the protagonist) the fastest one on the team, and the main damage dealer. If he's way faster than everyone else on the team, only pump magic. Agility only affects the goes first on the team, not anything to do with the opponent.
Hunter Reyes
wew, glad they ditched that design
Jeremiah Hernandez
>not anything to do with the opponent It affects accuracy though
Thomas Bailey
Continuing from When you get concentrate as a skill, keep it and use it often, makes the next magic attack do 2.5x damage. Buffs and debuffs are critical. Minotaur and Medusa bosses are the hardest bosses in the game, and they are the first 2. Don't let them get to you. When you get a skill you want, keep passing it on to Flynn and fuse new demons with it to keep passing it on and leveling up the skill.
Liam Barnes
Does accuracy even affect spells?
Benjamin Phillips
I want to get into SMT. Where do I start?
Jacob Taylor
Yes t. played 4A on apocalypse difficulty
Asher Murphy
Nocturne is a solid entry point to the series in my opinion.
Joseph Johnson
IV or nocturne. IV is more beginner friendly because eof the QoL improvements. It will make nocturne make more sense when you go back to it.
Jeremiah Barnes
Doesn't apocalypse difficulty adjust accuracy? I don't think spells can miss, but can't get a critical either as a trade off
Austin Phillips
Nocturne
Jayden Moore
Spells can miss. Just less so than physical attacks. And yeah, apocalypse reduces your accuracy by quite a bit.
Landon Diaz
Dex+luck builds are pretty fucking legit once you get past the rougher beginning.
Josiah Bailey
It's a hard -50 to your agility stat They can miss, even in normal conditions
Xavier Hughes
IV is kind of weird. The game is brutal in the beginning but after Medusa the difficulty just drops completely. IV's problem is they allow you too many ways to become crazy powerful. Min maxing yours stats along with app bonuses like mp restoration remove all challenge basically. Nocturne has better difficulty and atmosphere but IV is more beginner friendly. Both are pretty good.
Jace Bennett
Not him but the problem with IV and IV:A is that nearly all bosses, even end game bosses, have at least one elemental weakness making magic broken. I preffer physical builds myself but it's cleae magic is more optimal.
Levi Stewart
...
Easton Murphy
If you give yourself all of the single-target elemental magic, a Drain MP and/or HP spell, and a mass Healing spell, then focus all of your levels on fortifying magic, agility, and luck you'll cakewalk through the game.
Joseph Turner
I started playing the other day and Im currently fighting Ares who is kicking my ass. Any tips? Any recommended demons?
Juan Gutierrez
Negotiations are random, if they ask for too much either cheat them or end talks. I went in blind and did a STR build and did fine, but DEX+LUK is where the damage is, but MAG is also pretty strong due to getting free press turns because nearly every enemy has some elemental weakness.
As everyone else already said, Nocturne is the best entry into the series. If you're more of a traditional JRPG person and want to ease into the series more, the Digital Devil Saga might be better for you. No demon collecting but is a SMT game in almost any other aspect. Also has arguably one of the most difficult boss fights in any JRPG.
Cooper Reed
Do any of these games have no fusion elements? I think it's dumb and just breaks the game tbqh
Jaxon Morgan
You know fighting YHWH in the Friendship route of Apocalypse is essentially a glorified bonus boss. You've essentially beaten the game regardless.
Jacob Collins
Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2 are what you're looking for. SMT 1 has fusion, but you can't pass down skills at all.
If you die twice it asks if you want to switch to easy mode. You can change that any time after at your leisure. It doesn't change anything in the game other than battle difficulty so use it till you G I T G U D The game gets way easier after the beginning though. By mid-game other than a few times your demon team might be underprepared and can't abuse a boss, it becomes really easy.
Ian Adams
That quest is optional, just come back later. Fusion is one of the key features of the series and what makes SMT different from other jrpg, what don't you like? It's a great feature.
Easton Ross
Magic is only optimal early game The amount of damage and crit you get from dex/lux is far superior
Anthony Stewart

Ryder Hall
This 2agi 1dex 2 luck every level since the beginning, fresh new game, once I hit 5 or 6ish hours in I turned into a crit monster who smirked like a mad cunt.
Connor Perry
...
Jacob Jackson
I got a couple pieces of art that are probably big enough for most monitors
Many late game bosses have no weaknesses though, whereas dex can crit off anything for press turns and can multi hit off single targets
Kayden Cooper
Dex/luck has better damage endgame but because there are demon-only skills that are super broken, Flynn is best as a support cheerleader endgame anyway.
>Flynn is best as a support cheerleader endgame anyway How bad can you be? This isnt fucking SJ, Flynn has access to severe damage skills, multihit skills and fully customizable stats. He's a top tier damage dealer
Luis Jenkins
...
Luis Moore
last one
Benjamin Young
>Nocturne >Difficulty Audibly kek'd.
Christopher Scott
I'm just telling you what's optimal endgame bro. Not sure if you've ever fought Shadow Masakado on Master difficulty or not but Flynn can't keep up with top fused demons
>No pleroma without wasting an accessory slot >No high pleroma period >No Pierce passive (desperate hit is the best you can do but S. Masakado also resists almighty) >No attacks that even come close to the absurd damage output of Kannuki Throw
Best use for him if you have great demons is a healer/buffer/debuffer
Interestingly, in SMT4:A in the Stephen battle when all the SMT MCs fight together, Flynn is the healer/support of the team. His skillset in the YHVH fight is more mixed though with Antichthon and Riot Gun which are far and away the best skills he can learn in SMT4
Blake Wilson
Here you go son of man. I remember a lot of bosses having weaknesses, even ones right before merkahbah and lucifer. Daisoujou is broken but IV is still easier.
Nathan Lopez
I remember it falling off pretty significantly after dimension hopping Kenji is the last boss I remember having a weakness
David White
Why aren't you playing Shin Megumi Transgay IMAGINE now that private servers are in?
Parker Martin
I'm too busy playing Nocturne
Elijah Moore
>playing that failure of a mainline
Brandon Evans
Pretty much my thought with the game, once you pass the first real boss, difficulty goes downhill and disappears after the second one. Of course, I happened to go magic when I played, so I might've had an easier experience than some people.
Elijah Davis
The major time I felt like a shitter is when you have to navigate Japan. >Go to the [blank] district I don't know where that is.
Owen Campbell
The lack of map really hurt late game. I wandered around forever looking for some district for a sidequest just before I finished the game.
Bentley Jones
>"...an OST that is easily forgotten as a standalone piece." What did they mean by this? No, seriously.
Chase Wood
Outer Universe Which sucks doubly because the cosmic egg music is the bee's knees
Connor Baker
>implying that isn't the grooviest huh i forgot about that Really that whole dungeon was a mess
Anthony Lee
I actually loved the dungeon, but the music is just dreadful
Charles Allen
>Shin Megumi Transgay IMAGINE Oh shit, I forgot this was ever a thing. I think I played back in the first beta.
Kayden Sullivan
Theres private servers now? Last I heard they were still reverse-engineering the japanese version.
Anthony Russell
Buy the negotiation apps. Always be fusing. Spec your MC for magic and then have your party be a support demon, a physical demon, and another caster.
