As long as you have at least 3 healer blades out and 2 or 3 tank blades out, your team comp isn't too important so I'd just mix and match and apply accessories accordingly to accompany said blades.

When I had finished the story I had Rex use Blade Nia, Roc and Pyra, Tora use the 3 Poppis with all of them having Tank Mod, and Morag use Kora, Nim and Brighid.

Basically this guy and Tora.

Rex and Tora are High tier party members anyways, youre fine

Just use them, the game isn't so hard to give you troubles if you're playing sub optimally, unless you're avoiding all sidequests and just rushing the story.

it's not that I'm worried about losing, it's just that I'm used to the combos and cancels and shit already so changing it up and suddenly losing the flow I had really fucking bothers me
I also am kind of ignoring sidequests but only cause they're really fucking annoying to try to keep track of and seem pretty boring

There are a lot of good quests, specially compared to the previous games. Most Blade quests are great too, you shouldn't skip those.

Sidequests are pretty boring, with the exception of the ones that get you core crystals

Vess doesn't even have a quest, there is the quest to get her, and then there is a quest related to her later on.

Informants have information about the battle mechanics, but you may want to check a Youtube video or ask here if you have specific questions.

For the most part it's pretty straightforward, I just feel like it threw out a ton of tips early on and I don't really remember any of them in particular.

One thing that annoys me though is that I just got to Gormott and when I go out in those plains there are enemies at my level (10 or 11) and also enemies that are like level 80+. So is there any way to avoid them or sneak around? It seems like they just randomly target you and can kill you and you can't really get away. It's not a huge deal but did I miss some way of avoiding that kind of thing?

Avoid em, all xenoblade games have that, youre meant to pay attention to your surrondings when exploring

Nah, just don't walk near them to avoid them. The territorial monkey dude in the plains follows a pattern when he walks around, just wait until he's past it to explore further. You're not gonna be able to explore a whole lot at the start, though, but keep playing and eventually you will be able to.

The only thing you can do is to stay out of their cone of vision. Later you get key items that permanently reduce the vision range of enemies.

Do sidequests time out? I had a few open before I went to save Nia but just couldn't do them on my own so I said fuck it and went to get her. Now that I have Tora and Nia I can do them pretty easily but I don't know if I'll get sent back to Gormott at the end of this rescue.

No, and you can quick travel at pretty much any time.

They don't time out, as urgent as they may seem. But it is a good idea to go back and do them now that you have a full party, since it'll get Nia some needed levels for the chapter end boss fights.

There is a spoilery remark here about quests, but that's for Chapter 8 so you're safe for a while.
