I want the game but I heard it runs bad on the original PS4. I heard there's a performance mode that makes it run smoother, how much of a difference does that make? I don't want to have to spend the extra couple hundred on a Pro if I can just get an original.

Performance mode is only on Pro.
It runs bad on original ps4 but not as bad as bloodborne.

It's not. Everybody thought that now that the series finally comes back to home consoles it would be 60fps since obviously that's important for an action game, but they fell for the graphics meme. Thing is though that even on og ps4 the fps isn't capped at 30fps but goes over it sometimes in the low 40s or at least it looks like that to my eyes.

Unlike Bloodborne though I don't think MHW has any frame-pacing issues and it feels better to play because of that.

It's the same core Monster Hunter experience. If you didn't like 3, or any of the other ones, you probably won't like MHW. You still grind monsters for weapons to grind stronger monsters for stronger weapons.

I'm new to MH but everything seems very straightforward, there are a lot of optional systems for you to work on/with (investigations, the various types of crafting/forging, setting up your palico) but you can just go on quests and fight stuff if you don't want to deal with that stuff. Proper outfitting/preparation for hunts has more effect on hunts than actually being a good player (to an extent).
