Nuclear war was 200 years ago

>nuclear war was 200 years ago
>world still looks like it was bombed out yesterday

This is the biggest plothole in the series. I don't think the devs appreciate just how long 200 years is. The fact that there are still piles of rubble everywhere and torn down buildings that haven't been completely stripped down and salvaged for every comprisable materal, especially when there's a major settlement full of traders just 500 metres away; but instead you can find salvageable scraps that have apparently not been touched in 200 years, despite hundreds of people coming and going through. In any scenario, in 200 years, any surviving humans would have definitely rebuilt the wasteland so that it doesn't look like a shithole that was just bombed yesterday

> I don't think bethesda appreciate just how long 200 years is

in F2 and FNV they really do work on that, here is the issue of a bunch of cars etc still sitting around but civilization has started to rebuild.

doesn't help when you have mutants and other assholes running around ruining everything

You can have settlements with actual housing and electricity in Fallout 4, you just have to build it yourself. Bravo Bethesda.

you. fucking. moron.

the world was devastated by nuclear war. KEYWORD: NUCLEAR. RADIATION.

it is everywhere. do you think people just went out to try and do things? Of course not, there's RADIATION EVERYWHERE THAT WILL FUCK YOU UP.

Of course the world is still uncivilised and absolutely destroyed. people can't actually do anything without proper equipment because their DNA will get destroyed in the process of just walking about the rubble.

You Fallout 1 and 2 fags are the worst. 3, NV and 4 gave a realistic vision to the series.

they have a retarded rule who knows who came up with.

that every fallout game has to advance in time for some reason.

So no parallel stories allowed, that would've justified this bullshit if Fallout 4 was set a few years after fallout 1 or 2.

>Institute somehow exists with space-age technology amidst all this rubble
>you yourslef can build rudimentary towns with electricity and televisions, but hundreds of townspeople haven't done this in 200 years for some reason

s.m.h.

>bethesda fallout
>canon

Its an aesthetic thing, you might as well ask how any civilization exists in these games when there are obviously far more threats to it than people working on rebuilding it. All the raiders and mutants and ghouls, the last bits of civilized society should be dead. Something like Goodsprings wouldn't last a week.

>that every fallout game has to advance in time for some reason.

same with elder scrolls. Every game has to take place in the third age or fourth age. No games that take place in the first age when they had a colony on masser or shit like that

I think they don't trust themselves to capably come up with a plot that takes place in the past but still doesn't fuck up the established canon.

Shouldnt the whole place be covered in sand anyway?

>"fallout"
>posts bethshit
utter dogshit

They made it like that so you, the player-character -- who is a total chump according to every other character in the wasteland and can be exploited for free labor and hospitality -- comes along and builds a settlement on top of it!

I know this is bait but the only actually radiated parts of wastelands in 3 and 4 are bodies of water

People forgot the amazing thing called broom and shovel. It's ridiculous. The settlement mechanic is even more retarded. You can build a settlement in an alley while there are fucking intact buildings crossing the street. You can build settlements only with shacks while there is plenty of bricks and cement around. You can't even order people to using fucking brooms and clean up a little.
Because it's fucking POST APOKOLIPTICS.

Not interested in discussing how realistic things are in a alternative universe post-apoc game w/ talking mutants and ghouls

For some reason I now really wanna see Bethesda make a Star Trek game set shortly after the nuclear war in the mid-21st century and maybe right after humans built their first warp drive and made first contact.

There was that glowing sea place in 4.
What a shame that Bethesda wasted such a good idea like that.

>it is everywhere. do you think people just went out to try and do things? Of course not, there's RADIATION EVERYWHERE THAT WILL FUCK YOU UP.

That's why Chernobyl looks like a moonscape instead of having actual vegetation and plant growth, right?

>Bricks last thousands of years and are basically indestructible
Dude lets rebuild everything with rusted sheet metal

>KEYWORD: NUCLEAR. RADIATION.
Yeah just look at this completely uninhabitable blasted out wasteland.

People grossly underestimate how radioactive things are in Fallout.
Okay, in Fallout 3, you can take 1000 rads before you die, right? Standing in most water will give you 1 rad per second. So you'll die in 1000 seconds.
Two minutes in real life is one hour in the game. So you would die in a little over 8 hours.
Anything that you would die standing next to in 8 hours is RIDICULOUSLY radioactive. It's not "you're at ground zero of Chernobyl" kind of radioactive but it's still "hanging around in Fukushima right after the reactor popped" kind of bad.
Except now it's everywhere. This is where you live. It's all over the shit you eat, and the shit you drink, and internal radiation exposure is much more damaging than external radiation exposure is.
It's easy to gloss over how bad radiation will fuck you up because it's a video game and you can just make it "go away" with vodka or RadAway.

>>world still looks like it was bombed out yesterday
FEV

Todds fallouts is a movieset

>It's not "you're at ground zero of Chernobyl" kind of radioactive but it's still "hanging around in Fukushima right after the reactor popped" kind of bad.
Which is why Fukushima is just a complete crater in Japan and there's no reconstruction attempts anywhere, everyone who lived there is beef fucking jerky and as soon as you step into it your life becomes Mad Max.

You do realize that the bombs dropped were itty bitty tiny compared to modern nukes, right?

you're a fucking retard

a nuclear war does not cause vegetation to disappear for 200 years, you're a fucking retard.

a nuclear war on a grand scale does not cause vegetation to disappear for 200 years

period
fuck off you bullshit-spouting retards
why post when you don't know shit?

You guys know that the bombs in Fallout were much, much, MUCH larger than any real-world nuke, right?
This is something of a plot hole. Even at the height of the Cold War the world's entire nuclear arsenal wasn't nearly large enough to bomb every square inch of dry land.
It's generally assumed that Fallout's nuclear bombs were larger, deadlier, and more radioactive than anything in real life.

>a nuclear war on a grand scale does not cause vegetation to disappear for 200 years

Because we've had one of those before, right?

You're projecting pretty hard, baby boy

Also he thinks the rubble and debris should be gone. Like the trash men still come by. Like dump trucks even still work. LIKE THERE'S ANY ORGANIZATION AT ALL.

I'm not a robot.

This is why I built my primary settlement at the drive-in. A clean suite for myself beneath the projector. A swathe of pavement to work with. And a tidy diner that functions as the center of commerce. Still looks like shit. You can add clean building materials with mods, but that shouldn't have been necessary.

are you fucking retarded?

And yet after 200 years shit looks like it was bombed yesterday

Just gonna be honest here, your levels of butthurt and ignorance is amusing.

>butthurt

that was my first post ITT you retarded newfag

Not him, but
>burnt-out buildings
Acceptable, like how you going to move those?
>old rusted out cars
A few people can shove those off somewhere, but I understand this still
>paper and trash all over the floors everywhere
This is what's unacceptable.
Every time I go visit Moira she's sweeping or cleaning her shop but the place somehow never gets clean!

No, but you are for presuming when nothing of the sort has ever happened.

What would literally be the point of playing a game in a post-apocalyptic series, if the setting were like Japan in 1999? That was a place that got nuclear-bombed, and we know what it looks like now.

What. Would. Be. The. Point.

Fallout 3 never had to be set so fucking far after the bombs fell. The next fallout should be set around the time of fallout 1 because i'm not a big fan of humanity starting over bullshit. I want chaos and despair but I also want it to make sense.

All that mad

Even today, homeless people dont give a shit and live in their own garbage. Thats literally the world of fallout. Shoot even people that have houses treat their own house like a garbage dump. Should see my roommates room.

watch threads you dumb faggot

>i'm not a big fan of humanity starting over bullshit
Then you should find yourself an apocalypse game, not a POST-apocalypse game.
You're literally Bethesda-tier right now, they didn't realize that Fallout was supposed to be about post-apocalypse, not the apocalypse itself. If F3 took place 20, even 50 years after the bombs dropped, it would make a lot more sense.
Same goes for "durr hurr everything is like the 50's right?" bitch it's the 2100-2200s, it's supposed to be retrofuture/atompunk

>homeless people dont give a shit and live in their own garbage
Because they are mentally ill, you idiot.

Because feeling angry means they're arguments are validated. :^T

Lurk more you fucking retard
And learn what projecting means

lol you're cute

How do you function on a daily basis?

Ahahaha another reply. This is easy. God, you're so fucking stupid.

Our world and their world are heavily diverged. Radiation in the Fallout universe turns people in to immortal zombies, it's incorrect to assume that radioactive fallout has the same properties or that the radioactive isotopes generated from nuclear fusion have the same half-life.

The people in fallout are mentally ill then

Im not gonna sit here an argue about what is and isnt realistic is a video game.

>spacing

In a game in a unrealistic setting

>all these people unironically defending bethesda
lol.

reminder that pic related is modern day chernobyl, its filled with overgrown greenery and wildlife

Nukes were dropped over every corner of the planet causing a world wide irradiated nuclear winter that blanketed the world in nuclear fallout.
It was a mass extinction and all plants died in the process.

Fallout is based on whatever people in the 50s thought the future might be.
This results in technology and things that look something that might have been a thing during the 50s but looks more complicated and pretty much works on magic.
Same goes for radiation since the average americans idea of anything nuclear was glowing green stuff that might result in you getting superpowers or something.
For the common house being made of some magical future crap that has them standing even after being left at mercy of the elements for couple of hundred years isnt that big of an immersion breaker.
Who the fuck tidies up streets while looking for things vital to their survival and making sure they dont die in the process.

I WILL DEFEND M'LORD HOWARD TO THE DEATH, SWINES. READY YOUR BLADES, AS THERE WILL BE NO MERCY FOR THOSE THAT BESMIRCH THE GOD KING'S NAME hraaaah!

I'm sure Chernobyl had plenty of ghouls, too.

that was only 30 years ago and their is still traces of radiation there. Wildlife and people still live their too

i'm not trying to say that bethesda's design makes sense, but global nuclear winter and an isolated plant meltdown are NOT close to one another in the effects they'd have on the environment

the real reason is that there's no point in making a fallout game that doesn't feel like a post-apocalyptic radioactive wasteland, wtf is the point? what would separate new vegas from red dead redemption without that kind of thing?

same way most fantasy worlds have existed with the same technology for thousands of years, it makes basically no sense that the elder scrolls or the lord of the rings or dragon age are still basically using the same warfare for 1000+ years either except that they're going for LotR and not star wars

turns out there were no bombs dropped on the commonwealth and that's just how Boston looked the whole time.

Do people not understand that the reason the US in fallout universe still looks like shit 200years after the nukes dropped is because the wastelanders have to worry more about not getting killed by crazy shit like deathclaws, super mutants, mutant killer animals and deadly robots everyday than rebuilding America? In a real world scenario, yes the US may not look like that a whole 200 years in the future but thats because in real life it'll be just us humans and regular animals. Its pretty obvious that when you throw in shit like mutant killer wasps, psycho bandit gangs, robot death squads, man eating mutants and no to mention an underground group of scientists hell bent on killing everyone on the surface people America wouldnt be rebuilt nearly as fast.

>Build brand new wooden fence
>misaligned boards and holes everywhere

Have you even played Fallout 1, 2, or New Vegas?

What about all the shit laying around inside houses in the cities?

Realistically how long would it take for the surface to be safe from quick radiation poisoning after a nuclear war?

So set it earlier than 200 fucking years after the bombs went off

Im betting couple of thousand years.

depends on the half-life of the radioactive elements used, and how powerful they were. strong enough plutonium isotopes would take thousands of years to fully disperse from the environment.

We have, but you haven't.
1 2 and NV are incredibly low-threat in comparison to 3 and 4

The east coast is fucked, the west coast has the freedom to rebuild

Literally what? There are deathclaws literally everywhere on the west coast and factions still thrive by simply not fucking with them. Bethesda is just shit at world-building. Play the games before forming your opinion.

Depends on how powerful the nuke was. Hiroshima and Nagasaki were baby tier nukes and the radiation didnt last long as most of it was removed and there was only a tiny amount.

>small populations of deathclaws that mind their own buisness
In comparison to
>crazed supermutants being created in droves that wander everywhere actively looking for people
And how bout those mirelurks
And supermutant BEHEMOTHS
Ain't never seen nothing like that in the west.

>j-just pretending haha ebin trol xD

here's another (You) just so i can remind you you're still a faggot

Oh and I almost forgot, boston radscorpions are BIGGER

>Preston: Hey help me rebuild this settlement
>Player: FUCK OFF FAGGOT
