>Playing FF9 again >Just finished Disc 2 >So many fucking plot holes that the story doesn't even make sense
1. Okay so Burmecia (Rat Kingdom) makes no fucking sense. The bad guys take the city and then Kuja tells Brahne to "move your army outside the city." (Cleyra) But you get there and there's no army at all. Why wouldn't a portion of the army already be there?
2. Also, why does the King of Lindblum (technological advanced culture with multitude of airships) make you walk to Burmecia in the first place?
3. Cleyra's magical defense just stops working. Out of the fucking blue. Makes no sense but whatever.
4. Queen Brahne sends assassins after our heroes. One of the assassins catches our heroes on their way to a secret mining facility that leads to another continent. HOW THE FUCK DID SHE KNOW THAT'S WHERE THEY WERE GOING? The last whereabouts of them was escaping Alexandria from a tunnel that leads to Treno. Wouldn't she look for them in Treno? It makes 0 fucking sense that she would know they were heading to another continent.
Jackson Jenkins
Just wait until your party members start leaving and joining you at random and with no explanation whatsoever. >Quina disappears on another continent >nobody notices >later shows up in fucking Treno even though it's literally impossible for her/him to travel back
Jaxon Hill
Kuja sees Garnet and recognizes her in Treno. AT HIS AUCTION HOUSE.
>Does nothing.
WHAT??????
Ian Jones
1. How the fuck did you miss the fact that Cleyra is protected by a huge windstorm? 2. The South Gate got damaged during the Black Waltz 3 chase. So you can't reach it by airship temporarily. And Cid's flagship got hijacked by his wife who ran away with Kuja. 3. The should have renewed it with a ritual, but it failed for some reason, yes. Ill omens and such. 4. Lani's just that good at tracking. Do not doubt the cowtits.
Sebastian Adams
He also recognizes Zidane as a potential danger in Burmecia and still does nothing. Just handwave it as hubris or some shit.
Lucas Flores
WINDSTORM IS IN ONE AREA. THERE IS A WHOLE LOT OF PLACES FOR AN ARMY "OUTSIDE THE CITY" - KUJA
Brandon Collins
Not that guy, but Alexandrian army should have been gathering around the windstorm in preparation for the attack. Yet when you arrive, there's absolutely nothing.
Nicholas Martinez
OP BLOWN THE FUCK OUT LITERALLY BLOWN THE FUCK OUT
Angel Gray
And "outside" is the world map. It's just not displayed on there.
Camden Ross
Just turn your brain off bro
Landon Wood
>2. The South Gate got damaged during the Black Waltz 3 chase. So you can't reach it by airship temporarily. And Cid's flagship got hijacked by his wife who ran away with Kuja.
Check the map Cleyra or Burmecia are nowhere near the South Gate. And if you meant the North Gate then how did Queen Brahne get her airship to Cleyra?????
Noah Nelson
How did Zidane and co. walk through a literal army without noticing it?
John Price
It's a big tree.
Colton Perez
Forgot the map. I need to go to bed.
Luis Cooper
If you depart from Lindblum you have to go through the South Gate first to reach the North Gate. Or take the ground route through Gizamaluke's Grotto directly to Burmecia.
Ryan Green
Before the seige of Cleyra. The heroes decide to investigate the happenings of why the sandstorm. During which they are ambushed by Alexandrian soldiers. Once they realize that the city is going to be raided they run back up the tree to defend the city.
We get a scene with Beatrix saying "Ha! They fell for it!" FELL FOR WHAT? All they did was walk down the tree???? What did they fall for????
Hunter James
...
Luke Garcia
Fell for the Alexandrian infantry attack, when the actual invasion happened by teleporting the black mages and Beatrix from the airships.
Julian Myers
Kuja is a trap.
Evan Flores
Airships are mist-powered. Only Hilda Garde runs on steam and can fly outside of the Mist Continent.
Ethan Peterson
>FF9 is good because its a return to Final Fantasys roots! Is there any easier way to spot when someone hasn't actually played the game.
Owen Harris
Yeah, your comment.
Isaiah Cooper
>t. hasn't played ff9
Charles Baker
Not that it actually mattered, because Beatrix Sue would have trounced them anyway.
Cooper Brown
you understand that the early game airships rely on the mist to travel and can't go over the mountains, right? this was a massive plot point. The only airship that didn't run on the mist was Cid's private airship but that was stolen by his wife.
Brandon Williams
its crazy that of all the final fantasy games to bitch about bad plot points you actually point out one of the most consistent ones. let's talk about the mess that is FF8 or FF7.
Angel Turner
FFIX was a mistake.
Its literally just a mashup of all the previous games, messiest FF ever.
Adam Nguyen
There's nothing consistent about IX, user. It couldn't even come up with anything resembling a story or characterization for two of your party members, pretty much forgot about another after the beginning of disc 2, and the """"""final boss"""""" was such an asspull that even Ultimania just shrugged and went "it's darkness, I guess".
Landon Howard
Still a better plot than FF8, *including* the disgraceful unjustifiable final boss.
Henry Collins
What is the point in Amarant? His characterisation is basically he neatly got in a fight with Zidane once.
Michael Jackson
Bollocks, 8 has one of the best/cleverest and most cohesive plots overall.
Matthew Baker
and Freya's was her boyfriend fucked off and left her.
Elijah Carter
Ssssssh...it's ok...gunblade...gun...blade....you stab someone and then shoot them at the same time...it works...
