What went wrong?

What went wrong?

Nothing went wrong. It was just a mediocre game from a dead genre that was overhyped to the point where it couldn't possibly live up to expectations.

You people realized you never really liked the genre at all, the game was perfectly fine.

I don't get why everyone dislikes this. They gave exactly what they promised in the kickstarter.

Banjo Kazooie was never good and this game was just that again but worse, and with nothing to really differentiate itself from its predecessor

they found out they made a mediocre game and figured the whole Jontron thing would get them some pity buys.

...

hype entirely built on nostalgia, what people didn't realize is that collectathon game design isn't actually fun after you reach the age of 10

>promised banjo
>gave banjo bootleg made by people who clearly don't understand what made banjo good
>b-bbut we spread collectibles all over the place, that's literally banjo

You're full of shit. I played BK for the first time in 2015 when I bought Rare Replay and that game was fun as fuck. Yooka Laylee was shit.

Rehashed characters and puzzles, lack of charm, lack of cutscenes after puzzles completion, forgettable world structures, shitty minigames and other unpolished ascpects. Not to mention that broken move that lets you fly anywhere and hit the skybox ceiling in two seconds.

It got some good aspects thought, like some of the characters and the music.

But I couldn't beat the game because I stopped playing after collecting 85 pagies. It just got boring as fuck. It's not a bad game. It's just not a good one.

Just go play a Hat in Time. It's good at everything this game fails at.

>lack of cutscenes after puzzle completion
Literally nothing wrong with this desu

What are some good things that Hat in time do?

Poor level design. Also not enough porn.

it's better but still mediocre
play mario odyssey and crash instead

Nostalgia
The era of cutsey 3d platformers like banjo and crash is over for a reason, and it was just funded by late 20s-early 30s derps hoping to be a kid again

>games are ART now, Dad

Movement tech that isn't loose, isn't resource-dependent, and generally feels fun. Only game I feel did it better was Odyssey.
Actually charming writing and characters.
Smaller collectables for customizables scattered about to incentivize and reward exploring more.
Cute as Heck.

Here's what I mean:

>Beat the enemies that were cooking the lady skeleton thing
>nothing happens
>she just stands there tied in the cauldron

>blower complains he can't shoot fire
>fix him
>he still doesn't shoot anything

Memorable worlds. polished movement, Every chapter has it's own unique story and/or gameplay mechanic. It's fun. The bosses are fun. Everything has been put the necessary amout of effort and time to be as good and unique as possible.

And even what Yooka Laylee did good (characters, humor, music), Hat in Time just does it better.

The combat in Hat in Time wasn't the best thing either, but at least isn't nearly annoying as in Yooka Laylee.

Also Jontron.

>Nostalgia
Get a real fucking argument

>for a reason
What reason? Because nowdays soyboys only want realistic edgy games?

>Made by the folks who created BK!
>Except all the important ones

Reduced number of worlds in favor of an expansion mechanic that made levels that were already big and empty even bigger and emptier, while adding very little visual variety.

They should have just made 10 smaller worlds.

Mediocre game made by devs that insisted on shooting themselves in the foot for no good reason less than a month from release.
