whats so special about the dominion series?

Huge variety of kingdoms, units, spells. From a Roman copy to pale cave people, you can pick a faction and then customize your own god/kingdom. Pick what you want your gods avatar to look like, choose which class of magic you want it to know, adjust what you want your kingdom to be (hot/cold, lawful/chaotic, growth/decay). You can make your god a sit at home magic fountain or a 30ft tall walking combat god.

The manual is 382 pages of solid text

I'm playing the nature/beastmen faction and my goal is to create a huge force of minotaurs that will sweep over my foes led by an even stronger minotaur

>white minotaur just joins my kingdom
>assumes he can come in because he's white
game raycis as fuck

>Dom5
Hold the fuck up, I thought dom4 was still being worked on.

No they mention in the manual that they had so many changes they wanted to make that they just went with a new game

...

Yes. A lot of quality of life improvements over 4

Which game is best?

Hmm which one

Is Dominions the game that has some sort of godly superunit that you can summon as a boss fight or something? I remember seeing something like that a long time ago but I don't really understand how to play these games.

It was this one thing called eater of the dead. It spiralled out of control on some guys game and got like thousands of hp. I remember the thread on /tg/ many years ago and its what introduced me to dominions.

Yea when you start the game you customize your god how you want. If you want it to be a warrior you can make him super strong or give him spells that enhance soldiers around him, or you can have it be a large statue that sits in one of your provinces.

There are different schools of magic and you also customize how your kingdom itself will be. If you're a faction of frost giants you set your kingdom to be super cold

Looks like the kind of deep autism ride I would enjoy, but I have neither the free time or a buddy to join me on this.

Does it have SP?

Can you shift+move already to create unit trains?
Do all mage fights end up in overpowering all armies with battle wide spells?

That shit annoyed me in 3&4.

Single player? Yep, plays similar to a Total War where you have the overmap and zooms in for combat but you don't control units directly. You set the formations, AI behavior, what spells your casters cast, etc beforehand and the AI plays it out.

How do I nake a proper faction of pure paladins and chaste nuns and then go about being a stereotypical lawful good?

>Mictlan is an ancient tribal empire that has been isolated for centuries. The foul practices of the priest-kings of Mictlan
have caused most of their neighbors to leave or face slavery and blood sacrifice. Since the dawn of the kingdom, blood
has been spilled in the temples of the capital. Now a new era has dawned and the isolation is broken with the coming of
the Lawgiver. The Blood Cult has been abolished and the priests now follow the Lawgiver. Isolation has made Mictlan
a backward nation and its warriors use archaic weaponry and armor. The armies are mainly composed of slaves from
newly conquered lands. The mage-priests of Mictlan celebrate the two Faces and the two Dominions of the Lawgiver,
namely the Sun and the Moon, the Rain and the Forest.

I think there's an angel faction too

That's a fucking game manual if I've ever seen one.

It's a beast, a lot of it is just repetitive statlines but you can use the faction description to get an idea. You can pirate it as well to check it out and click through the bonuses for each

I bought 4 and it was my biggest mistake ever.
Not because I didnt like it, but because SP felt really lacking

I hear that from the general as well, there are some groups there for multiplayer if you're still looking

How do cavalry even work in real combat
what do they do after they charged into the enemy?
Turn around? Run through?

You can have them target specific troop types, whoever's the rearmost unit, closet,
