Why did he give the courier his pipboy? Isn't it some rare pre-war tech, why give it to a total stranger?

Why did he give the courier his pipboy? Isn't it some rare pre-war tech, why give it to a total stranger?

He knew you were the chosen one.

because how would you use your inventory without it?

Because the writing in this game is shit

because he doesnt need it any more

Because he was an old dude who didn't need it anymore.

The """story""" in Fallout games is complete shit, what did you expect?

Why give it then? Why not trade it for more medical equipment?

He used your boi-pussy when you had a bullet in your head and felt guilty so he paid you with it.

His shack was already full of medical supplies. You only need pip-boy if you go out on an adventure, he's too old for that shit.

what if you play as a grill

Mr. House through Victor strongarmed him into making sure you were equipped to make it to the Strip.

Why not trade it for food or guns instead?

What?

He lives next to a food store, he doesn't need guns.

because then you couldn’t eat or put your clothes on, so you would die

>He lives next to a food store, he doesn't need guns.

Why not trade it for materials to rebuild the town instead?

He's a doctor, he doesn't need a gun.

I'm sure a dead guy found from a ditch has a lot of resources and materials for rebuilding a town.

Why not trade it for hired guns to protect the town instead?

this

because everyone in town already has a gun

Because he's a nice guy, and he knows you need it. You've been shot in the head and lost your memory completely

Emphasis on "was" I robbed that old nigger blind

Why not trade it for money so they can move from that shitty town?

Because you’re the dragon born

justify this
doc mitchell is a fucking angel

because it is bad writing. having the pip boy made sense in every other game.

and go where to the other shitty town down the highway or the cazadore hole to the north

how much money do you think a pipboy is worth everyone in vault 21 had one

nothing in his house is marked as owned so taking it isn't stealing

The same reason you can speech check Cesar's Legion just to just up and quit and at Hoover Dam when they finally reach it after years of fighting, Obsidian is shit at writing.

Not so much bad writing as it was tied mechanic in the game. I suppose they could have modded tge game to make it not a wrist mounted pip boy but a large thick data pad clipboard like thing. As a generic civilian business or police/security accounting aid. Maybe have the player crack open a bulky laptop ftom their back pack.

While pipboys are vauable, there not super duper rare, just rare. every vault personal had one and pre war military personel had them and by extention Brotherhood of Steel Knights had them.

In the Fallout 1, 2 and Tactics game; civilians were mot freaked out or surpized by your pip boy. In fact some NPC's know exactyly what your pip boy is and point to locations on your map.

Could be that basic simplified pip boy models existed in the same way as smart phones.

or they could have just have the first quest be written so you go an retrieve a pip boy

how would that be any different than just giving you one

what kind of quest could they have that would of any interest if you can't access your inventory

Why didn't Mr. House just arrange for the courriers he hired to all be outfitted with a Pip-boy if he felt like it was something you would need to make it to New Vegas?

Also, I don't see how it's necessary besides letting you use VATS. If anything it's a detriment in a place like the Mojave because it draws attention to you and people probably think they can cut it off your arm for enough caps to get into the Strip.

This user gets it

because he wanted to. next question

because that isn't what happened at all he's making shit up

Doc Mitchell had one, didn't need it anymore, gave it to you because plot and being a cool guy. End of story.

>bethescucks desperately trying to find plot holes in NV
just come to terms with your shit taste pls

Because a pip boy is of almost no use to 90% of the population. Realistically you would never need it unless you wanted to keep inventory or have a map which you could just remember most of it or write it down.

fucking this

>your clothes got all dirty and bloody when you were buried alive
>he gives you the only spare clothes he has, his Vault Suit (or his wife's if your female), so you don't have to run around in your skivvies
>you survived being shot in the head twice and may have some kind of brain damage
>he gives you a device that lets you keep track of what you're doing and where you're going

What shitty writing. Old men aren't that kind or that generous. Completely unrealistic. Coming from a Vault is the only justification for having these things.

Because he's a nice old man?

l mean l love New Vegas but it would have been nice to get some explanation besides "Oh you are heading out? take this super valuable piece of old tech!" And the courier just knows how to use it too

The pipboy 3000 doesn't exactly look that complicated to work.

It was of his wife not him, if you played with best gender you would know.

yeah to the player maybe but in universe is a high end nuclear powered computer that might need some tech savvy people to operate

he lived in a vault

"You look like you could use this. You've got that 'player character' vibe about you."

>three clearly labelled buttons
>a twiddly knob
>a scrolling knob
You'd have to be some kind of fucking 10 INT genius to figure this out

Honest Hearts is the best dlc, Dead Money is the worst. Go fuck yourself.

the courier watched rick and morty

In-universe any dork can "mark it on your Pip-Boy map" when they want to.

Jed Masterson hires you for your Pip-Boy and talks like he knows how to use one, even if he doesn't own one himself. Like Elijah says, it's just another piece of RobCo trash. Computers aren't magic to wastelanders.

Honest hearts is the 2nd best dlc, Dead Money is the first. Go fuck yourself.

Three dudes cant carry a whole DLC and one of them is fucking ded

>Dead Money worst
>When Lonesome Road exists

>Three
Daniel doesn't count

Daniel gets overshadowed by Joshua but he is a damn good character if you listen to all his dialogue.

Because he felt a great deal of pride from saving you from a bullet wound to the head, and felt further responsible for the future of your well-being. Devil's advocate, but that's how I would rationalize it.

Is it really that rare and valuable? You can't sell it so you don't know. It might be worthless. What can it really do?

Cover up your unsightly, withered wrist

Has a map, monitor's your health, has a radio, can store information from terminals and you can make notes in it. Lets you play vidya if we go off of 4 though it's apparently a different sub model. Lets you make lists of all the shit you have on ya.

It does a bunch of shit.

it's better that the game starts as quickly as possible and you aren't bogged down by tutorial quests

here

Because there is no way of accessing your inventory without a pipboy. So they had to contrive some reason for you to get one.

Would be useful for someone travelling a lot like the courier but I can't see a farmer or your average Joe living in a town needing it much.

I just started playing for the first time (but already know some tricks), int 10 and luck 1. What mods should i have or i should play all vanilla? i'm at Novac.

>Lonesome Road
>bad
???

>fixes
4gb Loader, New Vegas Anti Crash (NVAC), New Vegas Stutter Remover, Yukichigai Unofficial Patch (YUP), Unofficial Patch Plus, Lonesome Road True Faction Allegiance, Melee Reach Fix Ultimate, Ultimate Invisible Wall Remover, Collision Meshes, Tutorial Killer, Passive Startup Messages, JIP Improved Recipe Menu

>graphicals
Vanilla UI Plus, Improved LOD Noise Texture, Enhanced Camera, Centered 3rd Person Camera, Hall of Face, HD Hi-Res Worldview Weapon Textures, Clarity

>gameplay/content
JSawyer Ultimate, Uncut Wasteland, Economy Overhaul

Only the notes and terminal thing is really all that useful. While you don't see them in game maps probally aren't really that scarce. You also can find radios everywhere. I'm not sure why you would really want a list of all your stuff.

Exactly. Though I could see scientests and maintenance workers getting use out of it, portable device to log on, make notes on what needs fixed and plug into machines. Basically a terminal on your wrist sans keyboard. (And it's implied there's some way to type)

But yeah mostly just handy for people traveling around, hence why he gave it to you, wanted to give you a leg up he's a good doc. Not like there's many people around he could trade it too, not many people go though goodsprings it seemed.

Bug fixes and maybe some texture mods really. I mean you can go further but I'd just stick vanilla mostly for now unless you find something in particular that needs fixing or adding too.

Nothing graphical (my PC is a toaster and i have about 10 fps when i'm in the mojave) or "hardcore mode" (leave my caps and ammo without weight). I just want explore, make choices and after that start all over again with a diferent mindset.

It's a proper topographical map that marks your position relative to the world around you, not some wastelander's doodling on a piece of paper.

It's also a portable radio, the closest thing in the game to an iPod or whatever. You can listen to music or important news when other people would have to stop in town or strap a bulky radio to their brahmin.

And anyone who hauls a lot of crap around on their own back would like an easy way to keep inventory.

Performance of the Gods

Also it has a light. Basically it's a bunch of things in one slimming down what you need to carry and is smaller than comprable things in some regards, IE the radio point. Basically everything this user said is what I was gonna say.

That said the list thing I originally mentioned I was mostly just joking about the inventory thing, odds are in lore that doesn't happen automatically and you have to enter that all in somehow. (Granted I suppose if you have OCD it's an option)

All of those fixes? Any conflicts?

>Lonesome Road
>good
???
I mean if you like walking and hearing boring shit that is.

No there shouldn't be any conflicts on that.

Because maybe he doesn't want to move? Maybe, despite its flaws, he likes where he lives? Maybe he would rather stand and face his problems rather than run from them all the time?

>playing male courier

>Playing a female courier

>Not playing female courier with chainsaw and shoulder mounted machine gun

Christ

>You can't be Legate. You're an abortion of LARPing. You need to die...

Doc Luis is the only reason I don't kill Goodsprings with the Power Gang. He's too nice.

>Not playing a male courier and dicking every qt girl you come across while carrying a ballistic fist and this machine
It's like you don't even know what fun is user.

Because he's god or something.

Shit I meant Mitchell

>sexmods
How are they for NV?

because he posted a thread and then replied to it twice so it didn't immediately hit page 10

Should have just said the pip boy was on you when you got buried with some throwaway line about how he didn't know you stumbled upon something like that, so you could still rp with the possibility that you came from a vault, killed someone for it, scavanged/traded for it, etc.

It was also stupid as fuck that he gave you his vault suit, iconic outfit and thematic significance of the number 21 be damned. You were buried in clothes, who cares if they were a little dirty when fucking everything in the mojave is dirty.

>Why didn't Mr. House just arrange for the courriers he hired to all be outfitted with a Pip-boy if he felt like it was something you would need to make it to New Vegas?
Wouldn't that be drawing undue attention to the couriers and basically letting everyone know they're carrying important shit?

>in a place like the Mojave
I think you got it mixed up with the Capital Wasteland

he was the vault dweller from fallout 1

Not him, but I tried out a basic one and it was ok I guess. The faces and ugly models really ruin it though, even if said faces and models are modded it still looks like crap but that's just how it is in nv/3 I guess.

also it was too fucking vanilla

Don't the Powder Gangers spare some townsfolk? Like I'm pretty sure if you help them the general store dude is on your side and I don't think they kill him.
It doesn't make much sense for them to kill a doctor that they could benefit from, so it's pretty lame that he gets killed.

Because he doesn't actually need it. Pip-Boy is good for tracking your own location on a map (in areas you've already traveled), keeping track of notes, and accessing the radio. He's a doctor in the middle of nowhere who doesn't plan on going anywhere, in a settlement where the majority of people there don't plan on going anywhere and is done with the Vault business. He's also a good doc and seeing that you got shot in the head figured that a device like that would be useful for a courier.

Pretty much what said desu, although I was considering a run with a mod that let's me impregnate women and have my kids grow up as I make my way through the wastes.

That'd make him 100s of years old you mong. Also they already did the whole "related to the original game's protag in any way shape or form" in 2.

I've never actually helped the powder fan gers but I think the doc helps the town fight them off, so you kind of have to kill him. Could be wrong though.

>have had only NV to play for seven months straight
>came to the realization that NV actually has very little content, have plowed through everything numerous times
>the bullet sponginess of enemies prevents you from favoring an early game weapon, you are required to constantly upgrade
Reccomend mods to make this game interesting again
