Remember? Remember watching the trailers over and over again? Remember getting hyped every time? Remember when this shit kicked in? youtube.com/watch?v=ESBXOOMi7SE Remember having your hopes slowly crushed? Remember the pain?
The disappointment wont ever leave, you will never be hyped for a video game release ever again. The pain lingers.
Yeah, I took this game as a lesson against getting hyped.
Did you actually watch the fucking trailers as they were being released? Sure the gameplay is great great, but the story we got was totally misrepresented.
Jason Morales
Making the players themselves feel The Phantom Pain™ was Kojima's plan all along.
David Edwards
youtube.com/watch?v=L_C0Q-D2yMc Its so easy to forget the hype, isn't it? To forget the anticipation, the hype, the happiness. To let the pain dominate your memories is so simple, I bet most don't even remember they were once excited for it, let alone how excited they were.
Robert Cooper
YES I REMEMBER
Hunter Jackson
This game killed the concept of hype for me. I will never be able to feel such thing again. Hold me Sup Forums
Kevin Williams
>I bet most don't even remember they were once excited for it I remember. It still hurts.
Lincoln Turner
I remember watching the trailers then having mild expectations because I'd actually played the previous two games in the series.
Then I played it and the story pretty much matched my expectations, but it was still surprisingly fun to play.
The only thing I really dislike is the lack of multiple save slots.

This game was supposed to be the video game to end all video games. The last piece. The holy grail. Anons postponed their suicides for it. Yet as time passed on, it became just another video game in the crowd, indistinguishable from the rest, a quiet drop of water on an already overflowing ocean.
Jack Gutierrez
>there are people that believe this

Watching these threads go down as someone who doesn't care much about the MGS games was a treat. For days people were trying to defend the game, saying the story would be redeemed through secret endings or new content, but the reality slowly faded in It was glorious
Bentley Howard
>I like sadness Who hurt you?
Zachary Roberts
>Tape insertion sound >"I WAS BORN IN A SMALL VILLAGE"
You're too stupid to understand that the game was literally designed to make you feel phantom pain. It's a fucking masterpiece.
Evan Cruz
We may blame different people. We may all react differently. We may turn on each other. But we will never get rid of the one thing that binds us all together. We will never get rid of our phantom pain.
Leo Rodriguez
My exact thoughts. It was supposed to be so big. Idk if any future game will arouse such hype for its launch.
Sebastian Gray
WE LIVE AND DIE BY ORDERS, BOSS
Logan Bell
Only recently played it through PSPlus, and it's pretty alright gameplay wise. Story is probably awful for fans, but I never understood the story to these games so it's all smiles here.
Jack Smith
The love for these games I lost The faith in Kojima I lost They're still hurting It's like they're all still there
Nathaniel Jackson
fags. The game was trash and outed kojima for the hack he really is. He had 7 years and 80 million dorrar and couldn't deliver. Fuck him
Owen Harris
We are we still here?...
Liam Collins
It's unironically this. One day you'll get over it and realize the game is it's own kind of masterpiece. I unironically felt the phantom pain and I appreciated it a lot as a ludonarrative experience. I also wasn't part of the hype at all and the only MGS I had played before it was the first.
Ryder Parker
>you will never even see the disarmament ending in your lifetime >you will never customize your own mother base >you will never explore an open world game as dense as Camp Omega was >you will never replay it because you won't delete your save to start fresh, you can't even replay the game proper >you will never believe the reason there was no dialogue in the trailers was because they were going to swap out with Hayter ever again
They kept the grand ruse up until September 1

This was an incredible game for Kojima to end on. I'll not touch another MGS without his involvement.

Good job outing yourself as a child with no idea what the pre-release hype for any of the MGS sequels was like.
Gavin Gutierrez
The gameplay was fantastic, it's just that all the potential for the story was lost.
Brody Robinson
I don't even have a reaction image sad enough for this
Jeremiah Adams
I liked the Phantom Pain. I think the two things it needed were a more expansive ending with Solid Snake, and a couple more bases to sneak into. Other than that I think it did a great job showing the birth of Outer Heaven and how the Cold War wrapped up in the Metal Gear universe.
Andrew Barnes
>and then you got to chapter 2, saw the mission list, and that sinking feeling set it
Zachary Perry
kojima finally succeeded in nuking his own franchise, like he was trying to do with mgs2 and 4. everything about mgs2 and mgsv rhymes, it's like pottery
Jack Robinson
I can not for the life of me understand what people see in the Elegia trailer. It doesn't hold a candle to SotF or Nuclear, it's a generic ass trailer.
Blake Fisher
There was hype for the previous games? I guess I was too young to remember before MGS1's release, but the prerelease media for the other games mostly consisted of basic tech demo 'wow look at this' type shit for the PS2 and PS3, with very little hype building for the games themselves. And I'm 28. I have a fucking collection of actual printed on paper gaming magazines from back in the day.
Dylan Carter
Well I remember, I remember, don't worry, how could I ever forget It's the first time, the last time we ever met But I know the reason why you keep your silence up, oh no you don't fool me Well the hurt doesn't show, but the pain still grows It's no stranger to you and me

ive never played mg before five i picked it up on the steam christmas sale. honestly it was the best game Ive played in years i actually gave a shit about the characters and got invested in the story even if i had no idea what the fuck was going on. 11/10

>Open game >Invaded noise pops up >Check idroid >"Your base has been successfully defended"

I got it free with PS Plus, it was very fun I dont see why you autists sperg so much like it was a bad game.

not even my future self showing up could have stopped me from pre-ordering MGSV

It was 100 hours of repetition. It wasn't that great.
Zachary James
Yes.
Dominic Cook
>Kojima wanting anything to do with Solid Snake Didn't you learn from the past 4 games? He hates him since mgs2
Sebastian Perez
Fuck mgsv. Ive never been so mad at a video game before in my life and i was a life long fan who bought the collectors edition. I feel like kojima owes me money.
Brody Peterson
OP reads like a Phantom Menace retrospective post.
Henry Rodriguez
Caramel genuinely made me feel better about this shit. I know a lot of the shit is pathetic but ruse threads were seriously some of the best highlights of this board. The community made up a better story than the actual game itself.
I gave up after the last Death Stranding trailer but it was still a nice way to cope, could you fucking imagine if V was seriously a fake, COVER game for a real 5? That shit would make headlines on actual news. And there was actually a decent amount of evidence to support it.
MGSV and Epistle 3 fucked me up
Brayden Sullivan
I remember having fun with it too
Tyler Watson
Know what I remember? I remember frankenguns, and even still have my non lethal LMG, silenced urgaan, and shotgun rocket launcher. Early mgs V was the shit with frankenguns and farmable resources.

this was my first MGS game and i really enjoyed it. ignored the story but i do that with everything.
Oliver Cook
MGS V, FF XV, ZTD. I learned my lesson. At least I didn't buy FF XV, I pirated ZTD and I bought the digital version of MGS V online on release day for pretty much nothing.

I'm 27 and still remember how crazy the hype for MGS2 was. It had fucking 10+ minute story trailers which was pretty much unheard of back then.
Nolan Ross
Chapter 2 trailer was pretty much just every cutscene in Chapter 2. Utterly spoilerific too.
Logan Stewart
>THE APOCALYPSE IS GOING TO HAPPEN ANY DAY NOW >GUYS WERE GONNA DIE AT ANY SECOND WW3 NOW >GUYS ITS HAPPENING TODAY >I MEAN TODAY >I FUCKING TOLD YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
Caleb Williams
Kojima is a fucking genius. He didn’t just make you play Phantom Pain, he made you FEEL it. It’s a game that touches you deeper than you would ever expect, a work of art that breaks the fourth wall in a more reaching and subtle way that has ever been experienced elsewhere.
Ryder Green
It really was obvious, just as obvious as when they played it off as a New IP. I had to hold back laughter as my friend complained about the game not touching up on Taboo and thinking Punished was really going to kill those kids in the Trailer.
Aiden Hughes
Nope, because I'm not dumb enough to fall for modern gaming's bullshit yet again. If you were dumb enough to fall for yet another goddamn poorly done moviegame, YOU are to blame.
Daniel Wright
It even has scenes from the disarmament cutscene
disarmament is part of Chapter 2...
MG1 starts with Big Boss being the only person in the world with nukes...
Bentley Gray
Being a great post-modern interactive meta art-installation doesn't excuse the fact that it's a bad video game.
Grayson Rogers
>MG1 starts with Big Boss being the only person in the world with nukes... except that's mg2, and he's not the only one with nukes, just one of the few
it really is mgs2 all over again. amazing
Jordan Peterson
Me too, funny thing is that it was the first time i entered a hype train. The game broke me forever and i will never not be mad about it.
Anthony Sullivan
Yes I can see keys in the image. what is the significance of them? their shadow is pixelated/not formed properly? wow fuck me consoles are shit. (that is a console screenshot, because my toaster PC has better looking graphics than that in MGSV.) No the engine's actually amazing because it runs so well. Sorry your tire has too many polygons faggot retard.
Jace Ward
Thanks for the PTSD
Nathan Ward
Overall cutscenes take a backseat in MGSV but whatever story moments we had i found really good. I think that mission where you enter the quarantine facility and kill off your staff is one of the most powerful moments in video games.
And then there is the gameplay. Of course MGSV is not without flaws but it had the best gameplay of any MGSV to date and the stealth action rivals Splinter Cell Chaos Theory in terms of how good it is. Yes, the open world is empty as fuck between outposts, yes there could've been done more with the level design, because absolutely amazing levels like OKB Zero are far and few between, but i actually found myself immediately starting MGSV over after beating it with the goal of getting S Rank in every single mission and i have put maybe 200 hours total into the game.
Jack Brooks
t. Stupid faggot who had way too high of expectations
John Parker
>Got this game free on psn as the monthly free game a few months ago >play 2 hours >get bored
I'm sorry but what the fuck was I playing? why would they think that any design choice in that game was fun, and why did they think putting all of the stories in those 1000s of audio logs was fine? I felt like I was constantly playing the game wrong to some level and had no fucking idea if i was progressing, then all the menu shit appears for the base and people you need to look after,, fucking hell, we wanted a MGS game what the fuck did we even get
I dropped it and never went back, got it for free and I'm still disapointed, can't even imagine how you fucks felt who hyped it for years
Aaron Hall
>MUH PHATOM LIMB >MUH DISAPPOINTMENT >WHY ARE WE STILL HERE? JUST TO SUFFER? XD
God I can't STAND you retards. These threads should be banned, absolutely no discussion of any kind. The only thing that ruined MGSV is you morons who have destroyed all discussion with your nonstop circlejerking faggotry. Most of you were too much of brainlets to understand what happened in the game and attribute anything new to the characters. Kill yourselves you fucking retards.
Jeremiah Myers
only if you are an actual retard who didn't use the shit load of gadget the game lend you, I bet you played the whole game using tranq pistol/sniper rifle and D-Dog/Quiet
Camden Murphy
duh, what are you, a child?
Jordan Barnes
>God I can't STAND you retards Don't you mean "God I can't STANDING
James Powell
You got an actual game but we're too concerned with MGS 1 - 4 to enjoy it. You got a good game with complete espionage action but you never learned all the gameplay has to offer, you didn't want to play a game. MGSV has the best gameplay in the series.
Hudson White
Holy shit thats a lot of edges user
Carter Harris
go to sleep konami
Ian Torres
The reality here is idiots need to be told how they should play a game to enjoy it, imagine being so stupid you can't just play a game how you want and enjoy it. Literally needs his hand held and to be given good boy rewards for every action to know "if he's playing the game right". And thinks there is a wrong way to play w video game. Dumbass.
Liam Bailey
Jokes you OP. I just booted this game and started from scratch a day ago. Basically I'm not gonna be fultoning anyone that isn't mission related/high value and deploying with only lethal firearms.
It's great. Actual guns are satisfying and I basically ported a shitload of online FOB reward soldiers from my old profile through save back ups so I won't have to worry about being stunted since I'm not tying a balloon to every commie I see.
This game is silky smooth when it comes to the gameplay. As far as I'm concerned, Big Boss' story is over. Don't be mad we didnt get fan-fiction faggot-tier story where he interacts with the kid version of every MGS1 character or the like. That kind of retroactive tie-in is usually cringe and often causes plot inconsistencies.
SHOULD there have been an expansion post-release that has you playing as Vic Boss in Africa, already far in development of Outer Heaven? Of course they should have. But we didn't get that, enjoy the game, many others have
Jacob Garcia
>Don't be mad we didnt get fan-fiction faggot-tier story where he interacts with the kid version of every MGS1 character or the like You mean literally what they did with Liquid Eli and Tretij Mantis?
Jason Campbell
I started the game like 3 months ago and love every minute of it, honestly. Just went loud and proud from the start, murder is no mind to Big Boss. I treat it like Dynasty Warriors, hop in, do side missions, murder and fulton, maybe advance the story a bit. I wish stealth played more of a role, like in 3, but whatever, it plays great.
Owen Kelly
I agree. The game is fantastic. I'm killing anyone useless, changing weapons every so often, using scare and guerrilla tactics and is FUN as fuck. I love the Total Stealth and the Subsistence missions the most. Venom is the best snake and big boss, even if he's very reserved. He's not stoic, he's not naked snake, he's his own person and is much more of a character than most as autist here in Sup Forums can get through body language.
Jonathan Myers
I wanted the game to have an urban/base themed environment, something much more claustrophobic to change the way the game is played and give the player some variety. That to me is all that the game truly lacked and was worse off for not having. I still replay Ground Zeroes for that every once in a while.
