Comes out April 3rd. 63 days remaining.
Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire
Will it be an un-fun pos like PoE1?
63 days left for another great Obsidian game filled with:
>Masterful and unique story
>Intriguing characters with depth
>Subdued and sensible humor
>Dialogue so extraordinary even Tolstoy would be jealous
>Thank you for reading this line
>Fast as a cheetah
>No shilling whatsoever
>Modern real time with pause combat for real hardcore gamers
>Brand new stunning graphics
>Actual character building consequences
>Perfect balance, making any character viable
>Some traces of environmental combat to boot
>>Perfect balance, making any character viable
That's not what balance means, Eder-kun. Every character in OS2 is viable because everything gets busted strong. It severely needed based balance man's touch.
If you post on rpg cuckdex
FUCK OFF!!
You fucking jaded loser!
Only if you continue to be a pleb and don't acquire better taste.
allright.
7 or dubs decides my character class. first time playthrough.
do I need a priest, monk, paladin to get the most out of the game with the gods? I need some kinda religious guy to get lots more content right?
anyways roll a 7 or dubs and tell me what to be
Cipher, gods are for losers.
It honestly doesn't make a lot of difference.
Go Eothas priest from Deadfire for a fairly good amount of unique dialogue and maximum reactivity for the second game.
You were a good boy/girl and picked Galawain's ending right?
And also you didn't do a terrible thing like betraying a god right?
What even is a cipher? I got to the grieving mother this afternoon and so far she’s just some weird medieval goth girl
I've seen people that claimed they were playing an heroic character picking Galawain's ending and it boggles my mind. Grabbing innocent people's lives and sacrificing them for the sake of making other people's lives sounds like some dark sick shit to me. Pretty similar to that blood ritual in Twin Elms, except the sacrifices aren't necessarily willing. I certainly wouldn't want to cease existing to power my country up.
well I was gonna roll a rogue then all the forums say rogues are garbage. and I dont wanna micro that much.
then chanter. and everyone says chanter is just super boring and not involved.
I imagine the people calling chanter boring are the people that want to micro more. Rogue is pretty powerful and fun if you know how to play him right, but like you said, it requires some micro.
>Arguing with Lord Sawyer's definition of balance
Heathen
nigger you rolled a 7. just someone choose for me.
I just want fun. Im also a lore whore so thats why I didnt wanna miss out on the gods stuff.
I also RP a lot
I'm the guy that told you to go priest of Eothas from Deadfire.
priest it is. hope its fun.
they're incredibly useful through all the game
>priest of Eothas from Deadfire
I don't get this desu. What about PoE3? Are you just going to abandon your Watcher again in favor of a character that'd be more "fitting" for the new game?
Who even knows if there's gonna be a PoE 3. Either ways, Eothas is a fairly important figure in the first game even if the plot isn't focused around him and he's the main thrust of the second game's plot, so I imagine that a potential third game would still have him be relevant in some way.
The souls are pretty much fucked already, Galawain is the best of the worst.
>They have a stunted growth, so it's ok to sacrifice them
Nah. Hylea a best.
Meh, it's shit.
can you stop making these threads? what the fuck is the point?
t. PoE fan with 188 hours across 5 playthroughs
If anything, that picture is an argument for Berath, to just give them clean new lives. Compared to Galawain, Hylea is 100% a life improvement.
What's the point of anything?
With the humble bundle and the incoming sequel, there's plenty of excuses to play and discuss the first game and expectations for the second one. It's fun
After being buttfucked by Thaos, who know in what shape those souls are. I'd just feed them to Dyrwood.
thank you countdown-user
Who paladin here?
Why does Sup Forums always use dialogue from retard that don't know shit thinking they have a point?
There is no point user
If you actually take the Hylea route then it doesn't really do that. Any HB children not dead just means twins in someone else. There's a ridiculous amount of twins born the next year
>mfw waiting to finish University exams in mid-Feb so I can play PoE 1
Just started, level 3 sword and board Cipher. What is a good party to bring in general, a good balanced party? Right now I have Eder, Aloth, Durance and Kana, the rest can be recruited after the stronghold area.
How many tanks are recommended?
I don't think Grieving Mother is talking about wichts or dead babies, she's talking about the babies that actually were kept alive by the parents. The souls would come back to those bodies and they'd have some kind of disabilities.
Still better than being used as soul-paste to feed others, though.
Plan on going Inquisitor with my cipher from the first game. Who's are the best and worst paladin orders in the game?
I wish there was a site on the internet that had the dialogue for this game saved. I'd like to know which companions argued for which ending. It's all a vague memory now.
I don't recall them mentioning the baby's having any disabilities in the ending, just that those who had killed gotten rid of their babies were upset because if the had held out hope they would have gotten their child back.
Cipher is basically the same thing as a watcher. They can see and control souls and they fight around that ability.
>shitty gameplay
>worse graphics
>terrible, overly verbose writing
>all characters are written as if they're the same person
>4th wall breaking backer NPCs every ten steps
Kek yeah I'll be sure to give a shit about this dumpster fire. Oh wait no I won't. Original Sin 2 is already out and better in every way possible anyways.
Then why aren't you discussing that instead of shitposting here?
Edér and Durance are your musts. Aside from that, just choose the companions you like the most and you should be good.
Backer NPCs are apparently toned down, thank god for that. Now there are only 10 and they are supposed to be more "lore-friendly".
I hope to god they aren't special snowflake edgelords like PoE's backer NPCs.
Literally the worst thing you can do in this game is get bogged down in min maxing and "what is best". You can complete the game on the highest difficulty with all characters.
I'm playing as a Kind Wayfarther
>The Kind Wayfarers is a paladin order in Eora. It's the most widespread paladin order, the Kind Wayfarers are guides and protectors for travelers, often people of limited means traveling in dangerous areas. Kind Wayfarers lack the noble prestige of other paladin orders, but are widely respected by commoners for their generosity and compassion. Kind Wayfarers lack a centralized structure and many members operate independently in remote areas. Though the order is known for not being wealthy, in recent years they've improved their finances via cartography and working with groups like the Hand Occult to develop travel guides for little known parts of Eora.
What do I do with Durance? Give him a staff and keep him casting spells?
but count-downs are annoying, and its only going to inflame the DOSfags more
Lore-wise, the Goldpact Knights are the best, but game-reaction-wise, I'd go with the Kind Wayfarers or the Memewalkers. Darcozzi are the weak link.
Here. Got Shieldbearer of St. Elega, aristocrat lady, probably going to duel class with cipher or wizard.
dont reeeee at me but is div 2 os worth playing? Ive heard its good but it looks fucking jap cartoony kiddy shit to me.
I just like obsidians writing but didnt avellone go there or somebody?
Only thing that is kind of a must is to have a priest and a tank or two in your party.
The ending didn't mention anything like that, I just kind of assumed that Grieving Mother knows what she's talking about even if she's kind of crazy, since she's a cipher and all.
I agree with most of your criticisms, but
>Original Sin 2 is already out and better in every way possible anyways.
Nah. Only if you're the kind of guy that laughs at skeleton sex jokes or faps to lizard porn.
He did, but as usual, he was just a marketing ploy and didn't actually write anything substantial. The writing from Divinity: Original Sin 2 is abhorrent. It's constantly trying to make you laugh at how witty and cheeky it thinks it is. Insufferable stuff.
I liked giving him a gun and keeping him afar, but that works too.
Best rpg in years, yeah. Avellone is there, but he wrote only one of the origin characters.
I always figured that Galawain was best, because it strengthens the Dyrwood. Somewhere in the game, there's a remark that the Dyrwood is now incredibly vulnerable because of the Hollowborn. It's an entire generation of soldiers, labour and economic activity gone. Pallegina's quest with the trade talks kinda reinforce this. Aedyr and the Valian Republics are circling the weakened Dyrwood.
>Best rpg in years
My ass. Not even the best RPG of 2017. ELEX and Battle Brothers are both better.
That might be interesting as well, since Pallegina is a kind wayfarer in my game.
I was considering goldpact the most out of them, bleak walker doesn't appeal to me much.
Not to mention that the people in Twin Elms are openly talking about that now is the time to strike against the Dyrwood while it is suffering from Waidwen's Legacy.
I agree that it helps the Dyrwood, I just think it's a little morally sketchy to trap souls like that for the sake of helping win a war. Plus, it's not like it stops bloodshed, since that would still probably mean deaths for the Aedyran and the Vailians.
>because it strengthens the Dyrwood
But Dyrwood is an irredeemable shithole.
Priests and druids can't cast a lot of spells at low level so they benefit from autoattacking at that point.
Durance is specially proficient with an Arquebus thanks to his chosen deity.
Just don't expect him to become a killing machine. Priests in PoE aren't like in D&D, they're mostly there for casting (and at that they're damn good).
I really hope we get more enviromental storytelling.
There is too much text and too little shown in the first game, i'd like for the game to pack actual cutscenes with animations for the character models, i also found it a bit weird how some interactions start with two to three sentences that explain how a rock is falling in the distance or how a character is acting weird; can't they just show that in the game?
To be honest, Pillars was pretty half-baked. Very clear it was a kickstarter game and that they weren't sure how much content they'd have the money to produce. You can often see where the various modules of the game are glued together, it's not very seemless. Not to mention tacked on shit like the stronghold.
I believe the exact opposite. I want more of those neat story book adventure sections with just a few illustrations where you get plenty of choices about what to do. Going for more animations is a waste of budget.
Either going goldpack or kind wayfarer. I'll go goldpack if I you can make up for the loss of auras with the generic aura ability. If not then I guess I'll go kind wayfarers. Either way, pairing it with a Soul Blade Cipher sounds good really good. Plan on using greatswords.
everyone says the DPS is whats missing from the party.
what class has good dps but is easy to play? druid and barb right?
rogue barbarian
Yeah. Or rogue. Monk, if you build them real well.
Ranger
I plan on using a warhammer, I was using that and a blunderbuss throughout the first game.
>tfw won't have based Abydon's hammer
Enjoy wasting your money on more trash
Sawyer in the SA forums dropping some lore
>In many ways, contemporary animancy has already far exceeded what the Engwithans were capable of. Engwithans didn't have much knowledge about the finer points of animancy, i.e. what makes people tick. What they excelled at was large-scale soul manipulation: pulling souls out, putting them in objects, tearing them to pieces, and merging them together. All of the fine analysis and "treatment" (for better or worse) is all the result of contemporary animancy.
I hate that we live in an era where there are people that know more about the setting of a game not because they paid attention to the game but because they happen to follow the developer's formspring, twitter, tumblr and forums account. Same shit Harvey Smith pulls with Dishonored. But at least Dishonored has some really passionate people that keep up with all that shit in their own wikia. With PoE, the wikia is ancient and doesn't have that much information.
How do you not overlevel to shit?
CONAN
which god is best god
I'm strongly considering doubling or tripling up on paladins of different orders and multiclasses as well since each can bring different auras and playstyles.
Impossible. Even with no combat XP, there's so much content it's bound to happen.
You won't be able to not overlevel if you do all content (which is logical), but endgame content and the DLC have optional level scaling.
Fuuuug.
How did Sawyerino overlook this? He's so passionate about all of the gameplay systems, he must've noticed that experience gains are completely unbalanced.
I'm good with skipping bounties, but I feel like I'm gonna miss out on something good if I start skipping actual quests.
GREAT TIER
Hylea > Abydon
GOOD TIER
Berath
SUSPICIOUS TIER
Eothas
BAD TIER
Magran > Galawain > Ondra
SHIT TIER
Woedica > Skaen > Rymrgand
Honestly, do the DLC campaigns as soon as they unlock.
I waited to do all of that shit after I got to Twin Elms, and I had to turn on level scaling. While the encounters were appropriately difficult, most of the soulbound items were a bit underwhelming since I had gear from killing the Adra Dragon.
Forgot Wael. Put him between Berath and Eothas in "Chaotic neutral tier"
Meme Tier:
Wael
Whats Rymrgand's deal? Also:
>Hylea over Abydon
Hylea is 2nd best to Abydon, other then that you were doing great.
What about tempered Abydon?
>Whats Rymrgand's deal?
Oblivion. Fuck your existence, it's time to end it. Life is suffering.
>12 hours in
>recruited most companions
>dinged level 5
>got to Defiance Bay and did a few quests
>still have no idea what's going on
How much longer until the story kicks off? So far this is just as bad as BG1.
Who else erased those bitchboys Eyeless memories so Abydon could stay cucked forever?
whats the best god to be a priest for? does it matter? they dont really change the game do they?
>Helping fucking Ondra of all people
No user, YOU are the cuck in this situation.
The story does feel off. I found that the motivation of "You're going crazy and need to find out what the deal with that cultist guy is" wasn't expressed well enough in the game mechanically. It's easy to forget the one piece of dialogue where Edér wakes you up from nightmares and says this is happening all the time. They should have added some kind of mechanic to keep that madness in your head, but of course, they did that in MotB and every scrub bitched about it.
>SHIT TIER
>Rymrgand
fuck you and horse you ride in on, rymrgand is the best one.
Absolute madman.
PoE was a compromise game, a compromise between passion and backers and it shows. I have no idea how they financed PoE2 as i havent been following it but I do hope the community in general have little say on it. People can claim they care about the game all they want but the tombstones texts and the huge amount of gold plated godlikes (a "race" who is supposed to be extremely rare) prove that they only care about themselves.
Tyranny on the other hand was a project of passion, just the insane amount of writing cramed into a much smaller game than PoE proves it in my opinion. Too bad the strange bronze age mixed with mad max setting alienated a lot of people, not to mention how bad they fluked the latter parts of the game.
I really, really hope the devs dont pay attention to the forums that much.
>Erase Eyeless
>Promise every god for all boons
>Go with Skaen in the end
No, it's mostly RP stuff. I personally like Berath.
>Not mentioning God tier Wael.
Then why isn't he elder God tier?
There's more then the one conversation but yeah, I never felt like it was that urgent, till maybe about reaching the other city, when iirc you start getting more and more visions.
