1. Difficulty of a mining increases the more it's mined, doubling roughly every 2 months.

2. Therefore the value of the coin also needs to double in order to maintain, profit.

3. The currently most GPU mined coined is ETH. It will be effectively closing its GPU mining doors by the first half of this year.

4. Flooding of the lower coin markets, will make mining difficulty skyrocket, but unless their value also keeps up, mining will implode.

There are multiple coins that are GPU minable, right now.

Once ETH goes into proof of stake(), their share of the mining community which is probably the largest will have to look into other currencies.

In order for those currencies to stay viable, they must outgrow their surge in difficulty from the ETH migrant flood. Which is unlikely to happen, because growth is tied to overall speculative health, not number of miners.
