Why are there almost no games where magic is really impactful/calamitous/badass/etc?

Feels like other than Magicka and Divinity almost no games have the sort of huge memorable magic.

Because real world magic dosent have special effects. It just happens.

NAtURAL DOCtRINE has a beautiful magic system. There's little impact, however.

I'll simplify my explanation.

You start with five mana. Every chest you open gives you one or two mana. Maybe three. Each spell costs between one and six mana.

The more side shit you do, the more chests you find. This means that doing side dungeons is always enjoyable. Even if the items you find are shit, you still get more mana.

You don't just spam magic. You gotta pick every spell carefully as fuck.

The only other game I've found that impressed me in that regard is Arx Fatalis. It's unique in the sense that you have to draw symbols on the screen. You could be fighting a giant spider at the time. Shit's intense as fuck.

Dragon's Dogma

Also, every character in NAtURAL DOCtRINE draws from the same pool. It's a running total.

Is this contrarianism or is Natural Doctrine actually a good game?

Why is she purple?

It's good. Don't play it if you don't enjoy challenging games, however.

Game balance. Most games with magic have physical combat to contend with. In those cases, it's hard to keep magic from being either OP or useless. There's a severe lack of melee magic, though.
