he was a little bitch but that was the point.

dude its just a game lomoa. with vampyres.
it was fun bro

He was you

Whiny bitch. MGS2 is the second worst mainline title after V.

Can someone give me a quick rundown about this game? What's so genius about it? What's the big plot twist?

Surely the long hair would be a hazard when out in the field

He was a homosexual like your father.

Samuel made it good.

>What's so genius about it?
Technology and graphix
>What's the big plot twist?
All of them but mostly scissors 69

You already know the answer you just wanted an MGS thread.

>President of the US called Raiden a girl
>proceeds to grab Raidens crotch to verify

I liked him and never found any problems with him.

I always thought Raiden was really cool. I like the part where he yells "now" and shoots vamp in the head.

Mgs2 was ahead of its time.

he's fine as a character, and serves perfectly for the game's themes. Quinton Flynn is pretty poorly directed, though, so some scenes lack the intended power.

Quinton is great in No More Heroes, though

It's a pleb filter.
Fags will hate it because muh bait n switch.
The patrician vidya enthusiast will enjoy it because it's pure, unfiltered Kojimjam schlock.

For the first bit of the game you think youre solid snake but then you find out youre actually a new character named raiden whos basically supposed to represent mgs fan,not in a self insert sort of way though.if you play through mgs1 and 2 its a legitimately clever twist especially the way it ties in with information control which is a major theme of the game but obviously/v/ will pretend its not.

I played through mgs 1 and 2 for the first time quite recently and knew about the switcheroo going in so I really didn't have a problem with him at all. Snake was better as a supporting character desu, sort of like jotaro.

He would have been a bit more tolerable if they got an english VA that was as gruff as his jap VA instead of the whiney nerd we have now, but only slightly. He worked out in the end with MGR though so I can't really complain.

>MGS2 is the second worst mainline title after V.

First hour of the game is Solid Snake infiltrating an oil tanker to destroy Metal Gear Ray. The tanker blows up and two years later a guy named Snake is infiltrating a new facility to save the president, but when he takes off his scuba gear he's some twink animu guy named Raiden.

He gets the themes across but he couldn't do it without being a whiny cunt that drags the game down until Arsenal Gear.

>tfw I finished MGS2 for the first time two days ago
This shit raises so many god damn questions. But mostly I want to know how the AI survived Arsenal Gear being completely trashed. Maybe the Otacon's talk about how the AI was in Raiden's head the entire time is actually true and them "surviving" was just that, Raiden hallucinating?

Pleb opinion. V is shit, and in a category of itself along with Peace Walker. The main 4 games are all amazing, but MGS2 happens to be my favorite. Still, it is only but a part of the best video game saga of all time.

Nearly everything. The marketing that went into the game, the natural progression in thematic that the game explores (MGS1 was about questioning whether man is more than his genes; it asks the question if our lives are bound to the chain of ACGT, and if we can ever hope to aspire to more than what was given to us at birth; meanwhile, MGS2 explores memes, and questions autonomy, identity, and significance in the face of a world where nearly every idea is thought of, where lives seem orchestrated, and where meaning is arbitrary), the execution of how the game itself explores the themes, the self-awareness of the game, in terms of what the returning player expects, and what the new player discovers, the way Raiden is supposed to be the player's self-insert, his "JACK-in" to the MGS world, only to have Raiden discard the player's identity and assume his own.

It's just fantastic, every fucking second of it.

The whole game was the beginning of the kojima trainwreck. Everybody loved MGS because of its clearly 80's action movie simple story, its gameplay and its setting.
After its success, kojima was given a blank check and was stupid enough to think that MGS was successful because him, so, because of the cutscenes, the conspiracy theories and the silliness. So, MGS2 got a level up or two in all those categories and it made a lot of stupid people feel intelligent because muh cinematic experience, muh hidden meaning.
It's still an OK game, but hardcore kojima dicksuckers made it insufferable to discuss, with arguments such as "I liked that I didn't like the main protagonist bait and switch, so ironic"

>Everybody loved MGS because of its clearly 80's action movie simple story, its gameplay and its setting.
How the fuck do you know why "everyone" liked the game? Maybe lots of people appreciated its deeper themes than 90% of games on the market.

>my birthday is April 30th
>input that as my date of birth
>play the game on that date as well
The game taking on the that date was such a mind fuck, I didn't know if it was coincidence or because it was the current day or because that was the day I put as my DoB, really added to the surrealness of the game.

What was the significance of April 30th, anyways? Did Kojima just use a random date to fuck with a very small amount of people like this?

So this is the issue with MGS4. You're meant to leave the game with these unanswered questions. MGS2 intended for you to feel more confused than ever and living with the lack of closure to mirror the way Raiden, Snake and Otacon are all in the dark. It was to make you question information and how you perceive it. MGS4 ruins that by explaining every little detail

But more importantly did HE help get across the themes?

his japanese dub did him justice.

>day George Washington took office
well there you go

he was the best part of mgs2 desu

>MGS2 was meant to end the series with unfinished story threads up the ass
Shut the fuck up. MGS4 suffered from MGS2's negligent writing, plain and simple.

V is significantly better than 4 you total faggot.

4 and Rising fixed him up for me

It was the day Jack and Rose met ffs

Not by a fucking long shot. 4's level design is way better than V's. Hell, Ground Zeroes is better fucking designed than V. Stay mad, you fucking mouth breather.

This.

The story threads aren't as important as the themes. Plot is merely a vehicle.

worst character until quiet come out

Mfinda Oilfield, OKB Zero and wakh sind barracks are better than anything in MGS4

Two years of my life were spent with almost no human contact and MGS 2. You learn to love it when it's the only game you have.

>But mostly I want to know how the AI survived Arsenal Gear being completely trashed
It wasn't the same AI you moron. Raiden literally asks how Colonel is still talking if the AI was destroyed and gets the response "Only GW."
According to the script the one talking to him at the end, both with Colonel's and Rose's voices, was named JFK.
Oddly, that wasn't the name of any of the Patriot AIs mentioned in 4.

>a new character named raiden whos basically supposed to represent mgs fan
this is incorrect. raiden wasn't supposed to represent any kind of mgs fan, he was designed to be off-putting for mgs fans. he was made to be like a fish out of water, like he doesn't belong in the game but he's there anyway

raiden wasn't mean to pull the average mgs fan into the game, it's the exact opposite. the past three games actually tried to make you feel like snake, and switching over to raiden is jarring and breaks any kind of immersion you previously had with the franchise

raiden isn't the typical mgs fan, he's the typical franchise newbie whose first metal gear game is mgs2
