It mostly took a drastic turn back to the original formula. No one in 1979 would have guessed the sequel to a gritty horror movie would be a fun action romp.

Nah, Alien3 is a good movie, but got shit reviews back then for not being to the scope and scale of Cameron's Aliens. It's not a bad movie, but it does shit on the established characters on 2 for no reason, kills them off camera, and tries to do another Alien 1. Pretty stupid move and meddling from FOX.

Still it's a cool movie and has some seriously awesome moments.

You can choose if you want to include Prometheus, covenant, and all that shit but it never messes with the OG or aliens.

The fact that something as simple as guns can kill the alien is one of the main reasons why I fucking despise Aliens as a sequel.

Alien 3 would still be shit even if Hicks and Newt had lived. That movie is garbage top to bottom.

All the bullshit that happens in rebuild 3 could've been entirely avoided if the characters just explained one thing. That's it. The director's cut of Alien 3 is legitimately a great movie. It adds a bunch of scenes that the producers cut out and provides a satisfying end to Ripley's character arc. The theatrical cut got awful reviews when it was first released because everyone expected an action film like Aliens or a horror film like Alien. It's more of a deliberately paced character study.

Alien Resurrection is total garbage though.

The director's cut was literally only good for "CIGARETTES!" scene where the dude does a flying kick at the vending machine. As bad as the theatrical cut was, at least Ripley's death was more badass. The director's cut doesn't even include her getting chestbursted without wincing, gripping the queenburster like a champ. Nah, it's just a shitty shot of her falling into the molden metal at like 5fps. It's horrible. Both versions were overall horrible.
