It has been proven true many times. The source is an interview with Electronic Games magazine back in 1994.

Internal power struggle at Nintendo in the mid 90s over how games should look. DKC had a more 3d look and Miyamoto wanted a more cartoonish look hence Yoshi's Island hand drawn graphics.

Nintendo tried to make him change Yoshi's Island to look exactly like DKC. He was pissed off. He never actually hated DKC itself.

Incidentally, the opening movie is pretty much what Nintendo wanted it to be.

'ELLO YOU!

Ever since Donkey Kong Land. Swap Cranky and Donkey with Miyamoto and Rare and you get the whole picture:

>According to the game's instruction booklet, the story takes place after the events of Donkey Kong Country, where Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong are discussing about their latest adventure to Cranky Kong. Cranky admits that the adventure was more successful than he thought, although claiming that it was only because of the "fancy graphics" and that "Kids'll buy anything nowadays." After Cranky goes on about the games of his time, the two other Kongs try to convince him that it was not only fancy graphics that made Donkey Kong Country great, but that it "was just plain fun." However, this does not convince Cranky, so he challenges Donkey and Diddy to an adventure on an 8-bit black/white system (Game Boy), with King K. Rool stealing the Banana Hoard again. Once the bet is decided, Cranky Kong arranges everything and calls King K. Rool to come and take the hoard overnight. Afterward, the two heroes decide to rest for the adventure ahead of them

It's not true. The only source is some guy's book and there's no other source to back it up.

This butthurt jap goes out of his way to shit on other series and strangle anything good that came out of that company

There is only one nebulous source for this too and nothing else to support it. The video game industry is the type of industry where one guy can just pull """insider info""" out of his ass and then everyone quotes it as gospel for decades.

The rumours come from a comment he supposedly made during and interview with Electronic Games magazine in May 1995. Unfortunately, although the a coverscan is available online, the magazine contents aren't So who knows if he really said anything bad about Donkey Kong Country.

It's not true. The only reason he said what he said was because Nintendo wanted him to make Yoshi's Island look just like Donkey Kong Country since it was a huge megahit around the time of its development.
He wasn't angry with DKC itself, just the standard it ended up setting for other games; as long as a game had nice graphics it didn't matter what the gameplay was like. Given that this was around the time the Playstation came out and 3D games were becoming the norm (and most of them were shit as a result), it's easy to understand his frustration. At least he proved them the fuck wrong by making Yoshi's Island better than both DKC and Super Mario World combined

>Nintendo wanted him to make Yoshi's Island look just like Donkey Kong Country

I haven't seen a source for this either. It's one of those things that is passed around as common knowledge but I've never seen anything to back it up.

Why would he trash talk the game right next to someone from Rare?

*comments on every other video you watch*

>*comments on every third video you watch*

He supposedly said something along the lines of "DKC is proof that people will like a mediocre game if the graphics are nice." That sounds like it's a criticism towards DKC but I don't think he saw DKC as a mediocre game, just that it shows people care a lot about graphics. DKC was a good game that happened to have amazing graphics for an SNES game.

The only source is some journalist who claims he interviewed both Miyamoto and Tim Stamper at the same time. Honestly the whole thing sounds sensationalized to stir up drama.

It came from Paper Mario autists trying to sully his name.

Donkey Kong is a nigger and Shagaru is a nip, all nips are racist. It's simple shit.

He might have been a little salty about Donkey Kong Country being better received than Yoshi's Island, but he didn't "hate" it. Most of that is just the usual Sup Forums sensationalism from people hoping that assassinating his character is going to magically make the next Paper Mario and Star Fox better.

honestly, this.

I've never played the original three DKC games, and I don't have an SNES.

What is the best way, with this in mind, to play them? are they on WiiU VC? or should I wait for the potential Switch VC to play them on that?

They're each good games, DKC3 a little less so. If you plan on paying for them, N3DS is the ideal option for portability.

They're all on the Wii U and even the New 3DS VC.

There's also the GBA ports that take a hit in sound and visuals, but added a lot of other quality of life improvements (most notably the save/world travel systems.

I kind of wanted to play them on a console, so it seems that WiiU is the choice.

the rumor existed long before sticker star though

It's a typical urban legend. Take someone with a clean image, make up some dirty scandal that goes against what people would expect of them, and you can get scores of people to believe it. Like "Mr. Rogers was a professional killer."

there was some things to kinda back it up.

DK was seen as the face of nintendo for a couple years and yoshi's island did have its graphics changed from silicon graphics to the story book style(which was honestly a good thing). So eve if shiggy was bitter back then it did end up making yoshi's island better for it at least

Fun fact: the source of the "Nintendo wanted Miyamoto to make Yoshi's Island look like DKC" claim came from the same journalist who made up the Miyamoto quote. There's no evidence that Yoshi's Island was ever supposed to look like anything other than what it looks like now.

I enjoy the rumor that he threw a chair when he found out about rosalinas story book in mario galaxy

what about the pre-rendered intro and the fact yoshi story looked like it after?
