What do you think are the chances of the next generation of GPUs having throttling or some other function to disable or hamper mining?

Very possible, Nvidia already commented they have plans like that.
>your GPU has been running for 12 hours, don't forget to take a break!
throttles to 88MHz
I think upon release they'll just have an X per customer policy, or maybe they'll ship some mining-only cards from launch this time.
Why? They sell. What else would NVIDIA want? Why would they limit their consumer base when their shit is currently selling like no tomorrow.
The entire reason Volta is being delayed is so they can release ASIC miners.

Everything that can be mined on ASICs is already being mined on ASIC. You can't ASIC mine what's currently mined on GPUs
Because high GPU prices mean less PC gamers who can afford to play new AAA titles which will lead to decrease in sales and amount of AAA games released on PC.
Less AAA games = less PC gamers who need new GPU.
This hurts Nvidia in a long run, crypto will not be around forever and Nvidia knows it.
>crypto will not be around forever
You're retarded
You are deluded.
release a line of "miner" cards for "coiners" which are gimped to all hell and undervolted for the sake of dampening the cost f the totally wasted drain on the electrical grid that miners pose
release a line of actual ungimped graphics cards for legitimate grafix card use
the everybody's happy, aside for the retards who went and bought the real graphics cards instead of buying the miner cards, in which case they proved themselves to be too dumb to not be homeless considering they fell for a fake money pump n dump con made by scam artists AND were too stupid to even buy the right hardware for their get rich quick scheme producing money laundering tokens
Why? Having GPUs working hard and long means you sell more and the consumer eats the costs.
At worst, there will be certain warranties that can detect mining usage so you can't be reimbursed.
tamper proof hour meter when?
>post yfw rolling back hour meter for GPU
Only idiots haven't withdrawn yet.
>crypto will be around forev-
It's not Nvidia that doesn't like miners, it's 3rd party manufacturers like MSI, EVGA, etc. Yes, they are selling a bunch of cards, but they care about long term and brand loyal customers. Miners aren't brand loyal, and so they would rather sell cards to gamers who will upgrade every year or two rather than miners who will buy a bunch at one point and then never again.
Not the same guy you replied to but you have no idea what tyou're talking about. These dips happen every year at the start of the year, if they didn't this time then it would confirm taht crypto is in a destruction bubble. Curently it's going fine but feel free to buy btc at 100k.
Do they not know this will kill my professional MMORPG career?!
>what is inflation
Crypto is a closed system where currency is constantly being created but never destroyed. At some point their value drops below the cost of production and mining becomes infeasible. There's no central bank monitoring the crypto economy, mate.
They may not need to.
I hope you have your collection of red wojaks ready for when BTC hits 5k
>b-but muh altcoin!
Altcoin dies when BTC dies.
kek
>Throttling
No
But they can just change and lock down their CUDA and miners will be fucked, you already can't mine on the TITAN V
>you already can't mine on the TITAN V

Retard
Read the actual articles
I did and literally none of them mention it being unusable for mining, you're a retard.
>Crypto
>A currency
>Not realizing they're just digital beanie babies and virtual pogs instead
its about the long run. You need to invest in customers that will keep buying your products in the future, and mining is just easy money right now and leaving the market as soon as it crashes flooding the second hand market and preventing nvidia from selling brand new
buy high and sell low.
The cards will be able to mine, but telemetry in the driver will report that you are mining to nvidia, thus violating the EULA. They will then take any of various forms of legal action against you.
>telemetry in the driver
You can literally just not install the telemetry component, you brainlet.
>Nvidia crackdown on non-miners
>As noted by The Register, Nvidia will ban the use of its GeForce and Titan cards in data centers around the world. Fortunately for miners, they are unaffected by these changes.
lol
They want them to buy quadro and tesla cards lol
very fucking high
thank fuck
When you lose your private key those coins are lost forever you fucking retard
...
>people playing on pc were buying AAA games
if nvidia really cared they would just make their own cards instead of just the chips and sell them on their site 1 per customer.
>Nvidia sells their cards to X companies for 300 dollars
>those companies now turn around and sell the cards for 2-4 times markup
Congrats, this is the reason Nvidia doesn't like it.
>all these people buying $1000 GPUs
>mfw bought a GeForce FX 5950 Ultra for $20
Jokes on you anons.
I bought a MSI 560 Ti for peanuts after my old 780Ti literally exploded and have been using it ever since as a temporary card until new generation comes out.
>sold my 3 R9 290s to a miner in mide 2016 for 900 dollars
>bought a GTX 1070 for 400 dollars
>1070 now sells for 700+
It's like I keep making money.
Currency is any object with a preagreed value used as a proxy for trade.
Retard.
Fucking lego, as in the bricks, not the company make for a brilliant currency, the value is incredibly healthy.
I think the poor bastards over in venuzuela actually used them at one point.
give source
give me hope
the 10 series will probably be the I5 2500k of video cards. Kind of strange we would have already had hype for a new card by now.
Because it's not sustainable for Nvidia themselves, believe it or not.
I wager they'll do something else: they'll produce a relatively cheap, easily manufactured card that, when bought in bulk to equal the cost of the newest gaming card, actually surpasses the gaming card in bitmining capability.
Thus, they make dosh twice: with the new cards that are hard to make from a manufacturing standpoint that sell high, and the deliberately weaker cards that amount to more power in total when linked together than the powerful card would at the same price point
Please never post about hardware ever again
10 series GPUs are small and cheap to produce and will at best be next gen's midrange GPUs.
I still have a 980 and I'm fine with it. I hope this shit isn't a problem in the future though
