i will when the new version's out
Is this a gsg
It's a quasi-grand strategy with nu-4X elements.
how long did it take you to get used to the interface
People who complain about DFs interface need to play Aurora.
That said, it's still a fucking cool game, I just wish I didn't have to jump through so many hoops and that it didn't pause the game for every insignificant event like a civilian ship getting built.
hahahaha the interface isn't even the most complicated shit
alright I'll bite, what is?
Most of the tabs at the top can actually be accessed by just clicking around in the windows opened by other tabs, so it's relatively easy.
It's knowing where to go that's the hard part, it's a pretty serious undertaking.
Aurora borealis?
Prepare for a lot ofdumb questions
What year does it take place in?
What random elements are there, as far as what the AI does?
Do you always start in our solar system?
What are the different ways you develop, ie militarily, diplomatically, do you just explore?
Do you control an entire species (human or alien), or just like a nation on earth that leaves?
Is it an accurate rendition of our galaxy like elite dangerous?
I'm rusty on the game so this is slightly accurate
>time can be set to any year starting its just an accessory, but you can choose to either start as a "modern" earth or an earth that has relatively advanced
>AIs will likely kick your ass from what i remember
>you can choose to start on Earth or your own system
>you develop by gaining resources, putting those resources to make military and materials and research, and suck other bodies dry to get more resources (hey just like real life)
>you control one species, but if i recall you can have slaves
>there is the option to have most of the galaxy mirror real life things, but everything else will be randomly generated
Your gameplay experience entirely depends on the options you choose before creating a new file
This.
How does it compare to Dominions in terms of depth?
I see thanks user
elaborate then
Funny you should mention this. I started playing a few weeks ago.
If you're wondering what the hell Aurora is, this is a good informative primer:
youtube.com
If you can handle this video, you MIGHT have a chance.
I'm a little bit too brainlet to play Aurora but I used to play the shit out of Stars! back in the day.
Aurora's main problems I hear are the lack of any wiki or guides/tutorials, the few guides on the net are usually years out of date.
Also if you have a small monitor or a laptop screen you can't access some menus it buttons because if how Steve made the menus. There's also no tooltips.
Apparently once you get past that shit the AI shows up and rapes you dry.
more
Dominions has lots of options with each one being a puddle, I wouldn't say it has a lot of depth
not that that's a bad thing
I love dorf fort and DWU but this is too much autism for me.
>Playing for the first time.
>Trying to get the whole "mining" thing going.
>Make a jump gate because why not.
>AI shows up and fucks my shit up.
So, how the hell do I use the mining ships? I couldn't figure it out and had to rely on mass drivers.
This, its not the interface that is hard, its knowing what the fuck to do designing missiles and all that crazy in-depth shit. I never knew what numbers to put in, what seemed like a good amount of tonnage, warheads, magazine size etcetera
no
IN THIS TIME OF YEAR!
Making ships is probably one of the more daunting things in this game most definitely
Just makes me break
Yeah, I agree but its also the thing that drew me to aurora in the first place, that level of customization and control you have over it really makes me feel like the master of my own destiny
would rather wait forever for Distant worlds 2
is there a mod that balances the starting population to something more realistic? when i tried playing the fact you started with ~20 million people triggered my autism
...
Played it on and off, the last time as a couple of years ago but I kept getting a bug with save file locations or something so I thought I'd wait for the next version. Any day now.
I did and I'm waiting for the new version
Turtling up in my home system ala The Expanse before venturing out. Just finished researching gravitational survey sensors and I'm starting to build more naval shipyards.
How does it represent 3 dimensional space?
To elaborate, how does it show a star being "above" or "below" you.
Is there a 3d galaxy map, or is it 2d and you just see x y z coordinates
there is no 3d element to it
>Sup Forums would rather play a game this fucking dense and draconian than learn how to make their own
The positions of systems relative to each other is trivial, because you can't actually travel between them normally. Instead each system has a number of jump points, that provide instantaneous travel to another system.
Makes sense, thanks.
that like super breaks the early game balance though
