Someone wanted Potato Wander shopped onto the Ico cover. Couldn't find any good angles, so have this. Talk shit or defend the remake I guess.

Nice. People are right on the money when they say the new model looks like its from an FMV from the early 2000s.
Why is Wander Indian now?
It's always a given that any remaster will ruin the characters faces. I don't get why though.
He looked sickly and fragile before, now he's just like a generic anime character.
>He looked sickly and fragile before
that was kind of the point
>TheSixthAxisJan
Shadow of the Colossus isn't necessarily a game that needed to be remade in such an elaborate fashion, and yet, I'm so glad that it has been. Bluepoint's remake of this sublime and poignant adventure is phenomenal, both managing to stay utterly true to the original and bringing it up to date in glorious fashion.
>managing to stay utterly true to the original
user pls, you almost had me thinking you were just really pretentious for a second, but that line gives it away as a quote from a polygon review or some shit
Sounds like the digital foundry review
>check out trailer and previews
>near universal praise
>check Sup Forums
>they hate it
Of course
Exactly. That was the point. That's why I'm complaining he doesn't look the part now.
>>check out trailer and previews
>>near universal praise
Because its a remake of a cult classic that you aren't allowed to hate
Not that I'm saying Shadow of the Colossus is a bad game, but no one is going to ever say "WTF THIS GAME SUCKS" but they also never played the original so they wouldn't get how the atmosphere has been destroyed
He's more finn than anything, at least something caucasian mixed with something central asian.
His ethnicity is probably one of the few things that are not a weird choice because he was always implied to be some kind of steppenigger.
potato of the colossus
i think i'll replay the game on ps3 when the remake comes out. either that or try to beat the normal time trials
Have fun nerd, I'll be playing the definitive version.
have fun with the ps2 version
Same. I've been playing the PS2 version.
>This remake isn't what the original would have looked like if Ueda made it today.
Yeah, you neckbeards are genuinely brain damaged. By all means, stick to your low res, stretched pixeled, low texture quality (with just as bad texture streaming), washed out, jaggied and low frame rate original. In fact, you can go replay it right now. We, on the other hand, will enjoy the game (for many years) in its most optimal form. I can't wait to to hear you brainlets shout
>I-IT'S NOT WASHED OUT ENOUGH!!!1
When I make my weekly screenshot threads of the game after it comes out.
>(for many years)
well, until it's released on playstation 5 at least. then you'll just buy that one
How sad. The PS3 remaster is the definitive remaster.
Why can't westerners into good art direction?
Playstation exclusive
It's the definitive version.
>Change Dormin's voice to be more evil and more feminine
>Make a new and inferior Wander model who has short hair, smaller arms, a stupid face, and is fatter
>Make all of his animations worse(running, idle, riding, climbing, head tracking, you name it)
>Remove all of his facial animations(outside of cutscenes)
>Remove his hair animation
>Trade the very noticeable degredation of Wander as you progress(dirty, bloody clothes and face) for a very subtle replacement
>Add grass to areas there shouldn't have grass
>Change the sky to look generic or sci-fi
>Change the Colossi's sound effects for the worse
>All the shading on Wander and the Colossi is worse(meaning they usually don't blend with their environments)
>Tone down, if not remove, a lot of the dust, bloom, and fog effects which destroys the amazing atmosphere Ueda crafted(some areas are better but not many)
>Make the tendrils that spawn from a dead Colossus slow, fat, black wires instead of slim and fast noodles with green highlights
>Remove shockwave effects when a Colossus falls down
>Remove Dirge's death animation completely
>Make the shadow people look generic
>Make the idol explosion effect generic
>Make the UI generic
>Change the soundtrack for the worse
>Create pre-order DLC
>Add collectable coins to the world
>Add a TLG easter egg that's out of place
>Forget to polish the game which leads to physics bugs like Wander falling through the world or glitching out in general
>They even made the baby look like a polished turd
Atmosphere is one of my favorite things about SotC.
So how do you know how is it that the atmosphere has been destroyed? These games need to be played -- trailers and LPs are never gonna give you the real deal.
Then stay on Reddit
>generic
>worse
These aren't arguments they're opinions now get out.
Atmosphere is given to you by animations, music, and art design(ie lighting, effects, character design). All of these things are worse in the remaster.
What does the remaster add in replace of this? Some better textures.
Are you telling me the stock effects they use for the tendrils or shadow people aren't generic? The music is objectively worse, same with most of the other stuff.
Some are opinions sure, but you don't have an argument so why do you even care?
the font for the logo looks like a super burger promo or something...
>"try the Shadow of the Colossus today at BK"
I don't need an argument I'm not claiming it's bad.
>>check Sup Forums
>>they hate it
Goes for pretty much anything that's not uber niche like .hack
you know, for a board that generally hates ps4 or sony in general, you guys seems to be shilling the fuck out of shadow of the colossus. even if its mostly just shitposting about how bad the changes are.
i see like 5 threads of this game every few hours.
I'll have to agree -- that webm of yours is a good example of what you're saying. Jesus.
Then again, original has no sword while remake does. Swordless running looks way more frenetic.
100% of this post is either lies or subjective opinion, which makes me wonder - why did the poster even bother? Is it mental illness?
The camera isn't even in the same fucking position, on top of being youtube footage. Are you fucking blind or just as stupid as that other retard?
I will always hate the following things:
>Old game, due to either limitations or design decision, does not have a universal lighting system, so instead has hand crafted/placed lighting for specific areas.
>New game just slaps a universal lighting system on there
That is not an improvement, especially when cutscenes or specific locations are literally designed to work with very specific lighting, a universal system just ignores all of that completely.
It's always stuff like that, replacing something specifically and purposefully done in a certain way, for an easier to make/newer alternative that isn't necessarily better.
You meant PS3, surely?
what did they do to change the soundtrack?
Learn the difference between remaster and remake
tried to emulate the original somewhat
What does it being youtube footage add or detract from the point? The issue isn't resolution/fps related, so it being 'youtube footage' is unimportant.
>broken to the point that hard mode and time attack mode became entirely reliant on luck
When will bluepoint stop raping this game?
You're claiming its good though? How is it in your opinion?
>lies
Argue me I dare you.
The camera is worse now and youtube image? The ps2 footage is an upscaled GIF for crying out loud.
nothing, i think. sounds the same if what i'm listening to is the actual ost
FFX fucks the faces up and it's labeled a 'remaster'.
git gud
I just noticed, is his right hand holding the stick even though it's not there?
Tell that to Bluepoint
I haven't played the game so I have no personal investment in any of this, but this webm is legitimately sad.
Why would anyone play this over the PS3/PS2 version, this is fucking me up seeing these.
Why would I argue with an apparent autist? There's nothing in it for me. You can continue to post your pointless webms that don't matter in the end, and I'll continue to play and enjoy what is the definitive version of the game.
>check out official promotional materials and shills
>near universal praise
>check out real people talking about it
>they hate it
Hmm
Anyone else bothered by how "alive" the new game's environments feel?
I know how that comes off, but a huge part of the original experience for me was how the forbidden lands were so depressing. I mean, there was nothing there, no life, no fantasy. Heck, there were barely any animals. It really felt like a dead, forbidden land.
The gameplay for the new one kinda feels like the opposite- there's comfy rain and the forests are lush with ferns and there's a constant background noise of lively birds and insects. It's a totally different vibe
I'm both
I was agreeing with you, you imbecile.
It sucks.
It's so apparent how bad it is when you've played the PS2 game. Wander has such detailed frantic movements, even facial gestures, but in the remake it's literally all gone.
And it's not even just the visuals that are botched, the game is buggy too.
Damn..
Guess I can't argue with that. Too bad they poured so much time and money into a game that relied so heavily on subtle and intricate details. It kind of makes me sad that so many of the people that praised the original game are praising this too, as if they never actually cared about what I thought made it great.
By the way, how does the ps2 game run in an emulator? I kinda feel up to replaying it again
That's just nostalgia talking. You're so used to the game being bland and washed out because of technical limitations that when you see colour you're put off. Just look at The Last Guardian. Ueda clearly likes his vegetation.
>inb4 'he was going for a different atmosphere'
Even in the original version there's plenty of vegetation hinted at. It's all just low res and doesn't pop. Now it's high res and it pops. You can actually see it, and it's no longer muddied into the background. I just finished replaying the game yesterday in anticipation and I don't understand people saying how the game looks 'dead'. For an upresed ps2 title, It sure as hell looks alive to me.
It's actually getting torn apart on Recetera, if I had an account there those guys would see many more points in favor of the PS2 game. They're basically just focused on Wander and haven't looked at environments or the bosses at all.
What CPU do you have?
What about ?
the left is a game from 2005
I don't understand what about your post is supposed to support the argument that I'm just too nostalgic.
I get your argument about the technical limitations in the forest when it comes to vegetation, but there are way more aspects to the original's direction that make it feel that way. The music, the lack of animals and npcs, the sound design, the story, etc..
intel i5 6400 2.7ghz
Could you recommend an emulator? I don't actually think the ps2 stutters were part of his grand vision
>That's just nostalgia talking.
I don't think so. I've never even played it and I think the new version has shit atmosphere compared to the old version.
The colossus is a perfect example of muddied textures. You could potentially build an argument for the environmental shot at the bottom (right clearly has more purposeful lighting) , but given how spot on the lighting is from the current videos/streams, I'll have to play the game first to confirm.
>The music, the lack of animals and npcs, the sound design, the story,
These are still all the same though. I guess for people who have played The Last Guardian, the visuals aren't hard to get behind, especially given how all three games have an interconnect visual design philosophy.
Old SoTC is really green.
Not that I am complaining.
But is there a name for this kind of art direction? Demon's Souls kind of has the same look, as do some obscure PS2 JRPGs, like some Wizardry games or maybe King's Field.
Green somber colors with lots of bloom.
I am an autistic drawfag and I kind of noticed this lately.
Yeah, they may be the same, but now they're at odds with the updated environments. All those elements intact from the original make the game feel one way, and the new stuff makes it feel another way.
Also the sound design is definitely changed, it was apparent from the get-go of that 10 minute gameplay clip released early on
They just turned up the tint a bit, look up color theory to get a better idea of what they were going for. SotC specifically was definitely aiming for a kind of dream like visual style.
The animation is clearly much fucking worse.
you know it's fucked up that a 2005 game has better animation than 2018 "remake"
shills really do exist on Sup Forums.
I genuinely hope you're getting paid for this.
PCSX2 but your cpu might not play it very well.
wiki.pcsx2.net
Basically DX11, half pixel offset, MTVU(in speed hacks) and VU cycle to 1 and mess with the EE(emotion engine) slider on that same page. Going to the left will lower the fps of the game but increase the fps of the emulator, and vice versa when you go to the right.
It's photoshopped but yeah SOTC does have a green tinge to it. It's just a color that lends itself to bleak fantasy.
This game was shit then and is still shit now. This is the same shit like Neon Genesis Evangelion fans pretending their shit is deep or whatever and you just don't understand it. No, it was a great idea that was done too early and suffered from technical limitations so we got a shit game that was extremely empty with a shit framerate and gets repetitive even during the first colossus you fight.
t. proud brainlet
It looks fucking great. Name one instance where it doesn’t look good. You can’t.
The only type of reply to this post is going to get is 'the atmosphere is worse', because on a technical level, it's obviously better. You'll also get posts like 'the animation is worst'/'the sound is worst', but those are much easier to ignore on account of being wrong.
How can you shills turn on your fellow gamers like this?
>American cover
Thanks man! I'll give it a shot
The dude that said there was dlc said there wasn't any after about a hour
Dormin's voice was always supposed to be more feminine at the beginning and more manly at the end
Nothing wrong with grass
Nothing wrong with the sky
You mean the effects that were meant to hide the bad graphics
Better graphics ruined Final Fantasy and the improvement to graphics will ruin this game.
>brightly colored HUD
uh oh
...
it does look great. it's just overall not as good as the original
also, resident evil is still the greatest console remake ever
How well does it emulate? I don't have access to a ps2.
>DF
>Watching glorified ads
they kinda missed the point of the game I feel.
The animation is actually worse though, you shill faggot.
Someone post the webm that shows how much less believable Wander's balance is when running atop the bird colossus.
I didn't save it, but you literally can't argue that the animation is better in that instance. It's fucking awful and someone was paid good money to animate it.
it runs well, as well as a ps2 can do. I'm hoping the ps3 verison will be emulatable at somepoint but this is still suitable. This is footage I took just now of it being emulated.
It emulates pretty damn well
They got the colors so fucking wrong its not even funny
...
youtube.com
It just doesn't feel the same.
It literally looks like any generic forest in a sony game now.
>b-but you can apply your own filters, user!
Don't listen to the shills, this remake is shit
I actually like the low fps it adds to the weight of the animations and the colossus. also the colossus feel more creepy slowly walking towards you
lmao right literally looks like an even cheaper Darkroot Garden.
Why does everything look so clean?
The nape of the fur is too uniform in the remake, like this colossus has actually been brushing himself or something, and color wise it looks far less dynamic. To make these models actually look worse than what the PS2 offered is fucking impressive.
