Hey Sup Forums I don't trust Sup Forums
I'm new to the Dragon ball series. I only watched a few in the 90s when I was 6 years old
I want to get into it before I play Dragon Ball FighterZ. Is Dragon Ball Kai the remake of Dragon Ball Z? should I watch it first season or move to Dragon Ball Z?
I don't want to play a game without background story
Hey Sup Forums I don't trust Sup Forums
Watch Dragon Ball, then watch Dragon Ball Kai, then watch Super.
Watch the original broadcast of Z first with the Faulconer dub, and if you like it then Dragon Ball. And if you like that then GT from about episode 20-on. The guy above me is a massive shitter who has been brainwashed by a revisionist reddit circle jerk that is one of the worst fan bases in history where the most accepted opinions are the worst ones. Super is absolute trash but if you must, then watch the movies, and the Black arc. Everything else is irredeemable trash.
Definitely be wary of anyone that recommends Super especially.
Just to prove my point, all the biggest most iconic moments and scenes and phrases come from that original broadcast of Z with the Faulconer music, yet it's been a trendy bandwagon to hate on it with the same exact parroted bullshit for a while now. It is the absolute pinnacle of Dragon Ball where its explosion came from in the first place. That's all I got. If you don't care about spoilers, I want you to look up "death of cell" and "goku goes ss3" in both versions to judge for yourself how big a difference it is.
bump
thanks
So watching Z is no problem for people who haven't touched the first season?
Watch Kai. It's Z without the filler.
What do you mean? Dragon Ball? It's not necessary and the majority of Americans started on Z. I like Dragon Ball but it's supremely overrated and people think they come off as having taste for saying it's better than Z. The only great thing about it is Goku as a kid who is one of the best characters in the franchise, and the comedy is legitimately funny. You don't need to watch it to understand anything in Z though. Most of the prominent characters in Dragon Ball are in Z but quickly become irrelevant. It's a Saiyan show and has been for like 20 years. Also, a lot of people that start with Dragon Ball find it boring. I think it's a much watch but only if you like Z enough. Goku carries it alone but the show is absolutely very boring at times.
Read the manga first
>watching the original dub
I see someones father was a brilliant scientist.
I'd pretty much go
>If you ONLY care about Z stuff
Watch Kai, it's the updated redubbed version and cuts out filler. You can stop at the Buu Saga IF you want and watch the original Faulconer Z dub. I only say this because both versions have their ups and downs in terms of voice acting quality and pacing of their fight scenes. (Like Goku vs Majin Vegeta, voice acting is alittle worse imo in Kai and the fight scenes are sped up and some really GREAT animated parts are cut out.).
Also google the filler episodes in Z and check out some of those if you want just plain fun. A really good one was where Goku and Piccolo learn to drive.
>If you want to include original Dragon Ball
Read the manga instead, imo it's when Toriyama's art (the creator) was at his peak during the tournament arc. Also fun adventure shenanigans in the beginning moreso than power level dickriding.
>Z Movies
They're fun. I recommend World's Strongest, Fusion Reborn, Bojack Unbound, History of Trunks, Yo! Son Goku and his friends Return.
>GT
Ehh. Up to you but it's considered non-canon by most and I think Toriyama himself? Story's not that great.
>Super
I havn't seen it personally aside from the well animated fights so you can just watch those if you want. Also from what I heard, Goku is written more like a brain dead retard than he normally is.
If you want a condensed version/startup, watch the two movies Battle of Gods and Ressurection of F.
The timeline basically goes DB > Z > Super > GT (if you consider it canon)
Or this Manga's dope as fuck all the way through.
Just for FighterZ? Watch Kai and some Super videos on youtube.
Do you really are interested in DB? Watch DB and Z. Then read the manga. Watch GT and Super if you want.
Kai is a recut version of Z that fixes the stretched out pacing and removes some of the filler of the original anime, as well as cleans up some of the art. It's not actually redone animation, except for a few parts though.
I'd reccomend reading the manga over Kai, since a lot of Z's art and animation still looked bad at times and Kai didn't fiix this, wheras the manga has consistently good art
You can start with z
>z
>gt
>movies
>super
>dragonball
Best order
Faulconer is really the only good thing about the original DBZ release.
The script was terrible and the DBKai version of DBZ fixes the writing 10-fold.
Here's an example:
>>The script was terrible
I disagree. SS3 was by far the best in the original also the SS2 Gohan Kamehameha. Also Frieza "ride 'em cowboy", they had some funny shit in there.
Don't forget that some voice changes are also terrible.
>ride 'em cowboy
Yeah, that's really just nostalgia talking.
Dragonball has some campy moments but nothing like that exists in the Japanese dialogue and there was alot of added monologues to the dub that are non-existent in the original manga or the japanese anime's script (such as Vegeta's explanation of going Super Saiyan).
As a longtime fan looking back, the best parts of the old Funimation were the added tension of the Bruce Faulconer music.
DBKai shows what decades of VA experience can do as all of the main cast clearly sound better on top of having better lines to work with compared to 2 decades ago.
>but nothing like that exists in the Japanese dialogue
Who cares? This is the most annoying part about how ""'muhhh purismmm""""""fags became the loudest. As long as they're not drastically changing major things, then what's the issue? A word for word translation would be broken English.
>DBKai shows what decades of VA experience can do
I don't agree. I legitimately do not like Vegeta and Piccolo's voice these days. Something about it seems off. It could be better recording equipment but I don't like them as much.
You can start with Z. Just know going in:
Goku is strong guy
Rivals with green guy named Cucumber
If you aren't gonna watch the original broadcast of Z then I would say read the manga instead of watching kai(especailly if you plan on watching english dub)
plus if you read the manga you'll get through it faster and be able to read early dragonball as well.
Read the manga. If you must watch the show watch it subbed. The only dub to actually get Goku mostly right is Dragonball abridged. Most of Goku's shenanigans come from his inability to speak properly, on account of him being a hick. Goku and ChiChi have their own dialect in all Japanese content. None of the official dubs have even attempted to get it right. All the dubs add in super shitty jokes over top of pretty good ones in the Japanese version. If you don't speak moon though, I'd suggest reading the series online. The anime is typical Toei. Three filler arcs with the 'A'-team working on it making some of the closest to Toriyama art they could, and the fucking 'F'- team handling anything important. I was hoping that studio was destroyed by that tsunami in the Phillipines, but no such luck. Falconer is fucking awful. It sounds like he's rolling around on top of his synthesizer and calling it a day. The original music is a full fucking orchestra of talented people with occasional insert songs. Give these a listen: youtube.com
youtube.com
No dub EVER came close to this.
It's called character assassination and makes quite abit of difference in tone of message.
Goku never officially called himself a hero of justice for example, he was always in it 99% of the time for the sake of the fight and 1% for survival.
>I see someones father was a brilliant scientist.
That line is in the Ocean Dub, not the Funimation dub. American had 2-3 dubs in the 90s.
>I legitimately do not like Vegeta and Piccolo's voice these days. Something about it seems off. It could be better recording equipment but I don't like them as much.
Count yourself among the trash who have shit taste
Ignore anyone who tells you to watch dubs, this goes triple if you aren't amerilard. Americans are absolutely obsessed with their shitty dub that just isn't dragon ball. Don't worry about le granny goku meme, if you didn't grow up with le generic superman goku then nozawa's voice will feel natural to you, specially if you start watching from DB (which you should).
Alternatively, read the manga, it's much faster.
Now this is nostalgia. Not a single person is gonna like this shit these days, it's fitting for Dragon Ball because Dragon Ball is old as shit and feels like a kid's show but it sure as hell is dated.
Okay, I wasn't talking about that. "Ride 'em cowboy" is not character assassination. But still, people harp on that scene way too fuckin much. We get it.
America had Ocean Dub up until about episode 60 or something. Funimation only recently went back and dubbed them.
>Why can't I hit you?!
>You didn't say please!
Yeah the script sounded a lot better as a kid. Still has some ups though.
>Ally to good nightmare to you
>only recently went back and dubbed them.
Nigger that was 10 years ago
Goku's voice is based off a Canadian interpretation, the whole cast is.
Even though you're a tryhard faggot, I agree if you aren't gonna watch the Faulconer score then watch the Japanese original sub.
>tryhard faggot because i didn't grow up with the amerilard dub and thus have absolutely no nostalgia for it and can objectively see it for how shit it is
??????????
Watch this dub
youtube.com
>They're fun. I recommend World's Strongest, Fusion Reborn, Bojack Unbound, History of Trunks, Yo! Son Goku and his friends Return.
So you don't name some of the best animated DBZ movies like Lord Slug or Dead Zone, but add in Yo! Son Goku? I don't get your taste man.
>Ehh. Up to you but it's considered non-canon by most and I think Toriyama himself? Story's not that great.
It's not great, but it's not bad either. For what it was trying to do it was rather comfy. Also, Toriyama designed all the outfits for GT and said in an interview a few years ago that he did enjoy GT.
watch the funimarion dub because the music (starting from the ginyu saga and forward) is god tier and makes the show better. dialogue can be cheesy sometimes but epic music makes it worth it.
Funny because everyone that I show the biggest scenes to who asks the same question as OP always picks Faulconer without hesitation. I guess you couldn't have the awareness that maybe you like what you grew up with because you grew up with it?
At least I don't shit on the others. I just say if you're not gonna watch Faulconer, then might as well watch the whole thing subbed.
goku basically being superman was kinda better than what ended up being "all saiyans are the same", but maybe I just think that because super really hammers that shit in.
thanks
It bothers me that people even bring Super up as if it should even be considered. Now THAT'S character assassination: the show.
Watch kai because it wastes the least amount of time. You don't want to watch the camera linger on scenes of grass giving Goku energy for 3 episodes.
what about dragon ball GT??
where can I download Kai with the best dub?
What about it? No one treats it that way.
Kai only has one English dub.
Kai is just DBZ but with all the fillers cut out. Although some of the fillers were pretty good because they expanded on the story most of them were actually just stretched scenes of thee characters looking at each other and screaming for half the episode.
OhKay OP here you go:
Here is my list:
>Dragon Ball
This will help with characters and build a foundation for most of them and the lore behind the world
>Dragon Ball Z (Faulconer Dub)
Highly recommended you watch this version since it has the best soundtrack
>Dragon Ball Z GBA RPG Games
>Dragon Ball Z Movies
Highly recommend this since the movies and interesting characters and excellent animation
>Dragon Ball Z Sagas
>Dragon Ball Z Budokai 1 and 2
>Dragon Ball GT
A Spin-off or Canon (which ever you prefer). The show by itself is fantastic and the animation is leagues a head over Super
>Dragon Ball Z Budokai 3 and the Tenkaichi Series
>Dragon Ball Infinite World and Super Dragon Ball
>Watch Dragon Ball Kai
>Read Dragon Ball Z Manga
>Play Dragon Ball King Piccolo Wii
>Watch the Dragon Ball Z movies starting Beerus and Frieza
>Play Dragon Ball Xenoverse
>Watch Dragon Ball Super (Black Arc)
>Read Dragon Ball Super
>Play Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2
>Avoid Dragon Ball Super
>Play Dragon Ball FighterZ
There you go OP. This should make it easier for you
Sorry user, I loved the animation for Dead Zone because it felt more martial arts than powering up (also Tree of Might) but I didn't enjoy the aesthetic of Garlic Jr. Same reason for Slug. Watching Goku fight a Namekian-like villain (Piccolo in DB) once was more than enough for me man.
Yo! Son Goku looked different than anything DBZ has looked before. The style looked more like the manga. It's what I imagined Super to be, it was like a fun filler episode, no "real" stakes involved, just great animation, fight scenes, and great banter among the characters. The only weird thing was how their SSJ forms looked in it. Also no dubs.
Except falcouner is shit I don't understand your point.
>let's remove the chinese atmospheric soundtrack and Hironobu singles and replace them with generic synths and linking park clones
??????????????
Is this a plus?
I forgot Raging Blast 1+2
maybe they mean spanish or jap, because kai in english is awful
Watch starting from Dragon Ball. It's such a good, funny, and light hearted entry point. The edge factor really kicks up after although it's not bad or anything like that.
Make sure it's Faulconer though. Here's a guide.
watch Faulconer score dub
>>bu bu reddit told me it's bad
okay you want purity, watch original Japanese sub
>bu bu I don't want to watch in Japanese
then watch kai
To be honest, the worst filler in Z is the Frieza arc, which somehow has the best reputation but it drags on so fucking long and has such long stretches of being boring, really couldn't wait for the fight against Frieza to be over instead of enjoying it the last time around. It wouldn't be a bad idea to Watch Kai all the way through the Frieza saga and then Faulconer right after. But that might be too much of a change, I don't know.
Seriously just watch Kai if you want to get into the series.
I cannot stress this enough. Watch Kai, do not touch the original show. If you like Kai then go back and watch OG Dragon Ball.
>No dub EVER came close to this.
The spic dub did
Thanks for letting me know that your opinion is hot garbage.
Don't listen to that retard. Super is definitely good and worth a watch but start with dragon ball.
Not him but Super is candy. Low quality, not good for you, but fun to consume.
>atmospheric
>communist era boring horns
The biggest scenes in the show are fucking soulless and don't hit anywhere as hard. Fix your fucking spacing, it's painful to look at.
Japanese is superior only nostalgia says otherwise.
dam nigga I forgot how gay they were in that episode
It's fucking terrible. Why do you like shit?
No, a nice moment every 184 episodes does not make it fun. It's usually anti-fun.
Play BT3 or Raging Blast 1
Weeb
thread could have ended here
Broadcast order, in Japanese. You watch English afterwards.
I legitimately have no idea what people see in Z's Japanese soundtrack.
Most of the music is bland or sounds like music from a 50s Godzilla movie, and yet people act like English speakers missed out on some amazing soundtrack experience.
Like seriously the Faulconer score for scenes like Final Flash and SSJ3 works so much better than the Japamese score.
Are you hating on Godzilla nigger?
Super is good fun and I'm not sure how you can say Z or Dragon ball is exceptional yet say Super is complete shit. It makes no sense, there's some differences with power levels and sometimes the animation is shoddy but it's definitely a good show. I found myself laughing at it constantly and the fights are great. How seriously are you taking dragon ball to be sitting there getting nitpicky and pissed about stupid shit?
They're weebs.
Enjoy that garbage being cancelled and ultimately retconned like GT.
I wish I was like you where I could like anything with Dragon Ball slapped on it, I actually thought I was, until Super happened.
>sometimes the animation is shoddy
>Sometimes
Don't watch kai
They cut out shit from the original Dragon Ball Z
Just watch dragon ball, dragon ball z and then super
>reddit spacer hates falconer
This comedy show writes itself
>and ultimately retconned
I really hope so
How likely do you think that is?
>falconer is shit
A billion times this. I learned Japanese just for comics because of America's treatment of Dragonball. They're still doing it. FighterZ has some pretty great jokes in the Japanese version that are totally changed in the dub. The one where Goku and Krillen are talking about having families to fight for, and Goku flat out says that Yamcha must be some kind of pervert because he isn't married yet. Also anything to do with God is fucked. Kami isn't a fucking character name. He is GOD. Yamcha prays to god at one point in the new game and Piccolo tells him that he should call him Dende while praying since he knows him. In the dub Piccolo makes a comment about seeing why Bulma chose Vegeta over him. Those are just a couple that I've come accross. I understand better than most that a completely literal translation won't work, but Funimation doesn't even try to get in the ballpark. Japanese can come off as bland at times, but Funimation steps FAR away from spicing up a localization and just flat out makes shit up.
Kai is an abridged version of DBZ. It's probably fine, but I haven't seen it. DBZ is pretty long, so Kai lets you cut down on the build-up so you can just see what happens. It also cuts out the filler from DBZ, some of which is dearly beloved by fans, but not strictly essential.
I also endorse watching the original Dragon Ball, if you have the time, since it's really good. DBZ picks up in the middle of Goku's story, which begins in Dragon Ball. It would obviously be best to watch DB before DBZ or Kai, since it's an older series that takes place first, but it's still good if you watch it later, although certain things are spoiled for you that way.
It isn't cancelled, there's been over 130 episodes that's pretty standard run time for the series in between breaks or the next thing. People like you are autistic because you put the ones you have nostalgia for on a pedestal and act like it's some holy trail of anime, when in reality it isn't and they are full of issues too, but your nostalgia goggles are soldered into your brain at this point.
Super did justice to old characters and introduced new good characters while making fights more interesting, the music is superior to Z too.
If you're really saying every single episodes animation is bad you're wrong.
Shut the fuck up weeb
I hope so too but I think that the next movie planned is on the origin of the Super Saiyan "God" so they might actually continue the trash direction. Where could they even go from there? They introduced all these universes and then rushed the hell out of it in one arc forcing them all in and they were ultimately lame as shit. There's quite literally nothing left for them to do storywise.
Not at all, ignore that seething retard.
>waaaaaaaah shut up stop showing how shit my dub is
is there anywhere to download kai with english dub? All places I've seen offer only engrish subtitles
The dub is fine. You're just a weeb who is mad about the superior American changes.
based
however there are a lot of movies and games
I love being called a weeb on this site. The ironing.
>Super did justice to old characters and introduced new good characters while making fights more interesting, the music is superior to Z too.
wew fuckin lad
Read the manga.
DB and Z are full of filler so I'd recommend the manga at least for DB, then kai, then the two newest movies, then watch episode 15 of super, then start at 28.
Stream it, nigga.
>Faulconer score dub
where to get it though?
anyone know where i can get the OTHER, non Funi english dubs?
you're a moron.
all websites have 3 layers of ads and links down
you mean official website like crunchyroll?
No argument found here, as expected from fucking morons who parrot retarded YouTubers and have their nostalgia goggles on way too tight.
dbzremastered.com is down
I visited like afew weeks ago
did they change the domain name?
Oh I just go to gomovies/123movies with adblock on and watch from there.
Read the manga or watch Kai, the normal show takes a million episodes to finish one battle
List the best dbz movies let's go
Used to be everywhere a couple years ago, but might be hard to find on streaming sites now. Last time I checked it was the "updated" version where they took out his score and used the original Japanese. Very very boring, this is why I say if you watch with the Jap music just watch the whole thing in Jap. I also think that there's a big enough contrast between the two that way where you could watch both and feel like you're getting interesting unique experiences.
You can also get the whole series on blu-ray for like $160 a few times a year on major sales. They just had all the movies on blu-ray including the two newest ones for only $60 a few weeks ago.
