Hey, Sup Forums

Hey, Sup Forums.
I have a question, lets say i want to port a old game with bad graphics to a new engine, to make it have better graphics.
will i have to draw the models or i can use the models of the game?

>tfw no big titty Twi'lek gf

please respond this is important
>tfw no sith femme fatale twilek gf

...

If you actually knew how to do this then you wouldn't ask.

why would you want to use the old models if the graphics were bad?

its never too late to learn user
cant i just add new effects in the engine?

>tfw no ahsoka gf

dont start it
its enough the futaposting in Sup Forums

as a child you probably played with blocks.
those blocks should have actually been detailed collumns. should you use the blocks or make detailed collumns?

that what i mean
can i use the old models and make them better through the engine or will i have to draw them?

You know what I want

Consider that "updating" the models is basically saying "I want to add more polygons" and then ask yourself if it's easier to take a 24 poly model and make it 20,000 or just start from scratch.

adding more polygons is easier?

Putting old assets in a new engine doesn't change what the old assets look like. Like, if you somehow managed to get character models from Morrowind loaded into Oblivion, they wouldn't magically look like Oblivion models.

i know that but you can pick the models and change them like putting more polygons and shit
right?

This is a pretty good bait thread, OP.
I wish I had thought of this.

Indeed. If not bait, OP doesn't even deserve good answers for being so dumb.

dudes
i dont understand of engines
i plan to learn if i can make old games with good graphics without having to draw
i cant draw for shit

yes and no.
the only benefit you'd get from putting old assets in a new engine is shit like improved lighting.
you're not going to get pbr, normal maps, hair shaders, sss, etc, without creating all that stuff from scratch.

i'd have to pay someone to draw for me then
hm
its not that expensive is it?
