>do you like dungeon crawlers, do you intend to play them all?
EO1
>do you want the easiest one to start with?
EO4
>are you a busy user and just want the best one?
EO2Untold

>EO1
isn't there a remake?

Yes but the original is so terrible you'll never play it unless you start with it

Just play 5 and never look back, my dude

EO4, it's the most entry level and plus the Untold remakes also build off of it while 5 just upgrades from it

They're not connected so you can start with any of them, but you probably won't want to start with Untold 2 because it's incredibly difficult unless you resort to cheese builds

...

4 or 5

...

4 or 3 are best ones
Eou1 is shit boring
Eo5 is so little content
Strange journey basically etrian odyssey too

I have no idea why people think EOU1 is boring
Just play it in Classic mode, the way it was meant to be played.

I beat 2U pretty comfortably with a meme build rather than a cheese one

Classic expert is also the hardest game in the series

>that image

woah

1 is cool but probably the most basic. Still great. Might also be the hardest if you don't use immunize and the endgame is bullshit if you don't have at least a protector and a medic.
2 is the best and also the most difficult I feel. Maybe it was my build idk
3 is good but it was also massively casualised. Subclassing pretty much completly break the game.
4 is 3 but worse. Still a great game.

No idea for the other one. People telling that 1 is outdated are lying, it's pretty much the same as the other but with less shit.

Untold 1 or 2 and the story mode.

>recommending story mode to anyone

>but with less shit
You can't strafe
There's no conditional drops, everything is rare drops, like 1% chance rare drops
There's no individual ailment resistance, either it resists everything or nothing
The font is fucking awful
Worst mapping in the series
No way to retire or raise the level cap past 70

He's being honest though. EO1 is a buggy imbalanced piece of shit compared to later games.

It's good for beginners of the series and I actually had more fun with it than the regular mode.

I know, I'm a genius. Too bad it won't happen and Etriam is dead

Would rather just have you hold the switch sideways tbdesu
Or even just put the map on the right half of the screen

This. 1 is basic, but has everything the series is. While 2 is upgraded, and basically the best. 3 and 4 did something different, I personally hate exploring outside dungeons. V I have yet to play.

But it's fun.

Also has Italian/German/French/Spanish localization!

switch doesn't have a touchscreen, dummy

>while 2 is upgraded
It's not though

the one with more lolis

Proofs?

It is though

yes it does you retarded idiot

>There's no conditional drops, everything is rare drops, like 1% chance rare drops
I call bullshit. I'm pretty sure, for exemple, that you need to kill the elementals dragons with their own elements to get their drops.

>There's no individual ailment resistance, either it resists everything or nothing
I honestly don't remember but I think that's bullshit.

>The font is fucking awful
Nah

>No way to retire or raise the level cap past 70
Litteraly wrong. I had a bunch of people on my team at 71 when I killed Primevil. It takes fucking hours to get at 99 or whatever is the max but you can do it.

Then how are we going to play twewy remaster

.Oh and forgot to add

Yeah the mapping is the worst, but only because it lack icons. Still it's not too bothersome and there's always a bunch of icons I never used in the other Etrian. I do remember running out of icons during some of the 4th stratums floors.

>nerf every class that was fun
>a new class that's so bugged it's completely useless
>no FOE EXP
>rehash plot and characters from 1 but make them all worse
>forced blindsides
>force takes 1000 years to charge
>lol revenge curse
Other than font which is subjective, you've remembered everything wrong
Hell maybe you're remembering the font wrong too because it was terrible
There is way too few icons, you're forced to use memos for a lot of things and those are extremely limited

>>I do remember running out of icons during some of the 4th stratums floors
>mfw trying to keep track of B29's teleporters

Start with V for maximum memes

But it does

Nigger, I played this shit on a tablet it was perfectly fine.

You can get your characters beyond 70 just retire them when they reach max levels. EO2 does the same thing.

>No conditional drop
Then explain this gamefaqs.com/boards/934287-etrian-odyssey/65397420

>No ailments resistance
For the enemy yes
gamefaqs.com/boards/934287-etrian-odyssey/75366338

For your character it's probably influenced by luck.

>I was forced to use memo

Boohoo, it's not an unbridgeable usability gap. Yes it worse than the next games but it's not awful either. I still used memos on the others etrians

HOW DO YOU SEE THE MAP WHILE MOVING BAKA BAKA

>retiring
I was wrong, you can retire in EO1 however there is still no way to raise the level cap. EO2 is the only game that works like that
>no conditional drops
The post you linked just says 'nvm found it :^)'
>no ailments resistance
>Unlike in later games, enemies do not have separate resistances for each disable.
They have a separate resistance for each bind and instant death, but not ailments

Play chronologically. Always play chronologically.
So 1>2>3>4>5. You can play the remakes anytime after the 3rd game.

wrong you play in release date although it is a bit difficult because EOU1/2 are meant to replace their earlier ones so assuming u want to skip the games that have been remade:

3-4-EOU1-EOU2-5

Nononono. At the very least, don't play EOU1 before EO1, they are a completely different experience.

I am assuming the person doesn't want to play games which have been remade and updated if the person wants the complete EO experience then obviously they play:
1-2-3-4-EOU1-EOU2-5

The earlier you can start, the better. III is great, since the sequels add quality of life improvements.

But you can't go wrong with any of them.

Who's to say you can't move while looking at the map?

Buy Nene's game!

but I already have tittymancer's game

I wish EOU1 didn't spoil EO1's plot twist like 10 minutes into the story.

>Level cap
Hu, indeed. I did get a bunch of maxed out characters but yeah, there's no level up. Still, increasing the level cap would just give you something to grind for.

>Conditional drop
gamefaqs.com/boards/934287-etrian-odyssey/45963302
Here. You still have to get lucky though.

>ailments
There's also a resistance for stuns. Ailments do have resistances but they're all pooled togethers. There's also cumulative resistances, you can't spam the same ailments without you or the monster becoming resistants.

Yeah that was my biggest gripe about classic mode (also half the cast being super boring).

U2's story mode is a lot more fun even if it kinda dips in quality after the 3rd stratum.

Have the map in a corner of the screen.

>conditional drops but you still have to get lucky though
THAT'S WORSE
>ailments do have resistances but they're all pooled together
That's what I was talking about
I means that you can just focus one ailment and It'll be just as effective against everything instead of encouraging you to have a variety of them

EO4 town is named Tharsis why isn't it on the map.

No official confirmation. EO 1, 2, 3 and 5 have in-game confirmation.

EO 4 is likely set on Tharsis because the stratums match the Tharsis Montes and Olympus Mons, but the game itself doesn't officially confirm it.

EOI's Shinjuku confirms the location, EO III shows the location of EO II on the map plus all the cities are named appropriately and located in-game the same way there are IRL, same with EO V and the Japanese version confirms it. EO IV is hinted but the game doesn't verify it like the others.

Well, you said there wasn't conditionals. There is. Plus you're going to kill a shitload of monsters anyways. unless you're aiming for the boss gear (which you don't need at all) you should be able to get everything you need without too much trouble. Plus this give you something to grind if you're anal about the drop list.

>That's what I was talking about
Oh. Well, you still have stuff like stuns and binds which change in effectiveness depending on the monster.
I also disagree for the ailments. Let's say you confuse your ennemy. Why wouldn't you try to poison it next? Or just use a bind next because they're some of the most effective ailments?

OP here i think i will start with the 4 then
thank you to everyone

Did Atlus get a new localisation team for the latest game? The opening video shows the world map but the in-game names of the areas have weirdly different names that sort of sound similar.

neat detail.

Godspeed senpai, I hope you like it

V localization was terrible, they even cut some important plot points in favor of memes.

Yeah, I love how Atlus sneaks in little bits of information and you have to figure it out. It took people a long time to figure out where High Lagaard was located, in the end it was only confirmed when EO III showed off one of the sea charts that showed the location. (Vladivostok, Russia)

They did it in house instead of outsourcing to NISA
Means that europe got a timely release but now the game has memes and swears
I'm conflicted

what.

Why does she always have a mace in artwork even though she never actually uses one

They fucked up really hard, they outright ruined the ending's plot twist because they renamed like 80% of the names and locations. All the Greek references and Mars locations got renamed. Remus of Aeolis became Ramus of Iorys. They even cut out a few lines from the ending, one of which was actually important to the plot.

It was some part that actually give a hint that the game was set in Mars, the localized version just ignored it for some joke.

IIRC maces and staves are the same weapon type in 1/2/U1/U2, maces tend to have more ATK and give +VIT +HP while staves give +TEC and +TP

One of the lines cut was that the planet EOV takes place on was "a barren red world given life"

That's sucks. I already guessed what the twist was before the game was out, thanks to IV but this still sucks.

Still haven't played it, I know nothing else about the story

It's EO but in space.

*blocks your everything*

>punished teach: a girl whose game was taken from her

Are those good classes or is this a meme?

Why do they insist on making full party guard skills so terrible? They got it right in U1
>teach
She is too beautiful to be teach
They're good but not necessary
They can also become hefty damage dealers with masteries

For 10 skill points you can trivialise everything that isn't full party or line pierce, and gunmount is silly% damage for super cheap, not even counting the cannon specialist skills that pop superbosses

Guess it was just me that fucked up mine.

How did you build yours?

What the fuck am I supposed to do? I keep running out of MP.

Just don't play 3. I played 1 and 2 before 3 and 3 was the only one that actually pissed me off with how much bullshit it had going in the main game.

1 was bullshit to but only in the optional end dungeon because it had a glorified HP tank that summons limitless monsters whose only attack is to one hit KO members of your party.

You're a helpful dude

Eat food that gives TP at the end of each turn, equip TP renewal legendary grimoires if you had any, don't instantly cleanse his roars until you have to, abuse elemental damage to do big damage to him even though it causes him to put up his shield, just ad nihilo it and continue - he has a cooldown on it anyway.

>mfw the localisation is so bad it openly contradicts itself

At one point EOV's world is called a dead world until Yggdrasil gave it life, and then later in the game they say that the world was already flourishing before Yggdrasil came about.

>the new game will have to be the same if its to be localised before 2020

>we will have to rely on anons that can read Japanese to be able to actually get the plot points of future games

EO5 - Mars

W-What

>Arken refers to the red planet with twin moons that has elves, potato people and bunny people as Earth

Someone please save us from this.

all of the places in game are locations on Mars. There are 2 moons. In the true ending you see earth coming up from the horizon

user, the capital city is called Aeolis. Other locations are Arcadia, Chryse, Melas and Candor, use Google Mars to find the areas. The planet has two moons and was said to have been an arid red planet before Yggdrasil covered it in forests and seas.

Huh, Mars is relatively close to Earth,
I had the impression we were travelling a much longer distance in the empyrean bridge

They even play the EO1 theme as you approach Earth.

That was pretty cool

>Having to constantly hold my arms up to walk around

Neat idea, but playing the game like this would get your arms sore after playing for a bit.

>not just playing it on the emulator

your fault for sucking nintendy's cock!

That would be even worse

You could always just have it stand on your lap and then lay it flat when you want to see the map, I just drew it that way to make the concept as clear as possible
