cod is currently the only westaboo game on the jap top seller list

Isn't there a small enclave of devoted New Vegas westaboos?

Wizardry. Japan love it so much it spawned the first JRPGs.
They also like the first 4 or 5 Ultima games.

I think pretty much all Bethesda games past Morrowind has a sizable following as well, at least judging by the ridiculous amount of Japanese face and porn mods that pop up everywhere.

I think that's because Bethesda games are a perfect platform for amateur modelers to test their models and see the whole thing motion. I remember that there were a handful of chinese artists who used Skyrim as a testing bed for their MMO projects.

Yeah, I was very wrong and a fag, sorry user.
I thought I had read sometime that Japan hated CoD, but they love.
>cod is currently the only westaboo game on the jap top seller list
Right again, sorry.

What the fuck. Why would anyone do such a thing?

As an amateur modeler. modeling for Skyrim and Oblivion is one of the least fun and most frustrating experiences you can every have in this life. It's like you straight up need witchcraft to get something working since all the tools are third party and all of them are wonky as fuck and outdated despite both games having such huge modding communities. I can't stress enough how much I fucking hate it.

I legit hate it so much I started making mods for fucking Morrowind since there you can actually sort of export your shit without spending a month crying in a fetal position in a gutter somewhere.

Eh, beats me. Ask the japs at Dragonporn.com and yeah thats the actual site name for Jap skyrim mods.

The only game that actually fits the description I can think of is Spelunker. Tim Martin's game was never popular in the west, but when that shitty game got ported to the NES, it sold like hotcakes in Japan and was notorious for its insane difficulty.

It's a part of the fucking Japanese language now, people who are frail are deemed to have a Spelunker complex. It has had a fuckload of sequels developed for the Japanese market, including Spelunker 2, Spelunker HD, Spelunker Party, Spelunker Black, and even the microtransaction heavy Spelunker World which is still being supported on the PS4 by Square Enix.

On Playstation Home, Spelunker HD had its own world in Playstation Home and a fuckton of unlockables like a Spelunker avatar outfit for playing the game.

It has merchandise ranging from manga to novelizations to a full blown anime... for a western series.

It got parodied by Kuro, Playstation Japan's official mascot. The games get rereleases to this day on Japanese services.

There are a variety of MADs for the series on Nico Nico Douga, its internet following is strong as all hell in Japan and there's plenty of fanart for it on Pixiv too. Fan remixes of the music as well now that I think about it. Probably fangames and romhacks as well if I look hard enough.

Here's an old MAD for instance that also parodies Touhou: youtube.com/watch?v=kjyrQ-WXXRo

I've seen it get referenced in Japanese pop culture quite a bit too. One example off the top of my head is Sato being a big fan of it in Ajin: Demi-Human: pleasesavetanaka.tumblr.com/post/146849500839/video-game-references-in-ajin-anime-version

And to think, all of this spawned from a nigh-unplayable NES game where you die if you fall two feet in the air. Not even colliding on the ground, just falling two feet and then dying in mid-air.

As for ones that also achieved mainstream success in Japan but are mainstream in the west as well, uh... Crash Bandicoot and Ratchet & Clank I guess?

the only hard bit is rigging armors and fiddling with nifscope,. the rest is easy. It is hard as hell at first. cause the tutorials are shit and out of date.

I legit had to reinstall windows because some magical force kept me from exporting a nif file properly, despite the fact that I had done so previous without any major issues on the same computer with the same program and same plugin. It's so tedious it makes me wish I was fucking modeling for the Source engine with it's editing text files and shit.

are you using 3ds max? The nif exporter for that is good.

Yep. Even went so far and as trying to learn Blender just so I could stop using that fucking exporter.

God I wish I had the patience to learn a new program.

This might not count but back when I was in high school, we had a bit of free time in one of our classes so I pulled out my laptop to play Binding of Isaac. The only students who recognized the game were Chinese foreign exchange students. I also know that Isaac: Afterbirth can be played in Japanese, meaning there must be a good amount of Japanese people that play it.

yeh it's horrific to use but I like seeing the end result.

doesn't count

at least you admitted it
