Franxx is garbage. The main character is a boring sap, the mech designs are dumb, and this whole gimmick of using dual pilots and sexual imagery as some thematic element has gone absolutely nowhere. It lacks any of the dumb fun that Kill la Kill had.

Yeah, but that explains nothing about why the mechs in this show are engineered to be piloted in such a fashion. Clearly there's some attempt at symbolism going on here, given how all the fan service is balanced out by a ton of awkward interpersonal drama. They're trying to go somewhere with this but are beating around the bush and not giving us any lore or explanation for this frankxxly (padum tsss) contrived scenario. Where's all the lore about the mechs, Klaxosaurs, and other in-universe shit that could justify the premise?
