It's funny how innocuous that TF2 update seemed at the time.
Who the fuck knew where it would lead.
SHUT UP, BASED GAYBEN CAN DO NO WRONG
>complains about valve not making hl3
>buys tf2 hats and keys
why are pcbros so silly?
lol wut? people were saying it was going to lead to shit when they started introducing hats. when mannconomy released the community turned to 95% tradecancer over night. this update wasn't the least bit innocuous.
Barely anybody plays TF2 anymore. It's only children and degenerates now.
love bear cock
Fuck, it's so weird to look back on it now and realize that was the precise moment everything started to go downhill.
...
The horse armor debacle was nothing compared to this desu.
That was when DLC was just a new untested concept, it self corrected after that debacle
Not as bad as what happened to TF2 but definitely one of the starting points for this shit.
yeah, now horse armor is pretty much the norm
fuck you
kill all scum who thought casual matchmaking should be the norm for pc games
The stupid fucking fanfiction comics were the pre-cursor to this bullshit
>DUDE SAXTON HALE SO RANDUM XD
>DUDE DYKES LOL
I hate how only now people realize how shit valve actually is. I knew it back when they forced everyone to use steam to play hl2, the service that made drm the norm for the future. And don't forget how they fucked with l4d1 players by releasing a new l4d a year later instead of fixing and supporting the first one because fuck you. But valvefanboys just wouldn't listen and kept sucking gaben's cock while hoping for the next half life. In the end all they got was a pastepin of what episode 3 could have been like and only after that, the paid mods and artifact did they finally realize how blind they were. Serves you fuckers right.
L4D was also pretty shamelessly ripped the concept off from a mod (Zombie Master) which I thought was pretty shady
Good thing for Valve they don't need to have that cult of personality anymore
I think that the comics fit the theme and mood of tf2 really well, but I respect your opinion
>Pestilence
>War
>Famine
and now we wait for the last
>posts the best update in the game's life
I don't recall anyone predicting the game to revolve around hats and trading beforehand. I recall most people thinking it was just wacky cosmetic bullshit that almost no one would pay real money to use. I'm sure a few people saw it coming, but the vast majority of players seemed to just think it would be simple fun.
Just like horse armor in Oblivion...
That's not the WAR Update you pleb
i await death
i await freedom
i wish to be in the world
not the tf2
Doesn't surprise me since valve copied most of their game ideas from mods or other games. CS, TF and DoD were all based on mods made for HL1. Dota was based on a warcraft 3 mod. Portal was based on another game that used portals to solve puzzles. It's fucking ridiculous how much people give valve credit for being so creative when they just used other people's ideas.
>tfw didn't mind matchmaking that much because me and my friend had already been sticking to mostly valve servers for years
It had some issues at first, but I find it a lot easier to use now.
>just realized I haven't finished all my contracts
>game is already dead again
what a shame
This really killed tf2
FUCK CASUAL MATCHMAKING
I WANT MY COMMUNITY SERVERS BACK REEEEEEEEEE
Fill me in? I played the game in beta and at launch but dropped well before this patch. How did it get ruined?
I remember that update. It was the month I quit that shite of a game.
It introduced a microtransaction store and was the advent of lootcrates
Your memory is very faulty. It was all fun and games when the first hats were added. When the second round of hats were added, people like me were crying about idle servers proliferating and people caring more about getting items than playing the game. I ended up quitting within a few months and every time I look back what I see is depressing.
>but the vast majority of players seemed to just think it would be simple fun.
As soon as hat drops were added people started idling and making programs to idle on multiple accounts and shit like that. There was also a huge wave where people who got illegitimate hats removed and people who didn't have any got a halo which caused a huge divide in the playerbase.
>Just like horse armor in Oblivion...
Horse armor caused a shitstorm when it came out because of how little content they were charging money for.
tf2 is shit
>sell dragon slayer skin for 30 bucks when the update released
>check the market price now
>only worth 3 bucks
Thanks for the money cosmetictards.
How bad is the economy now? Back when I played 3 ref was the average price for a hat.
I NEVER managed to find a match using this service, literally never. It took me hours and hours and nothing.
>mfw people were saying the price is only gonna get higher and to not sell it yet
Sold mone for 8 bucks only, but still ended up making profit with that alone.
Feelsgoodman
>MvM is still the best wave defense game in an fps
How did they do it?
So did horse armor actually give more hitpoints or anything.
Reminds of when I got my first foil card. Back when regular cards from niche games would fetch 30 cents a piece.
Most hats are worth 1.33 ref i think but i the average price is sill about 2-3 ref. Mics items also dropped in price i think but are worth more than hats. Keys fucking exploded in price and are now worth 36ref while buds are only worth 1 key. You can basically get multiple loadouts for a key and crafting hats is not a waste of ref anymore.
I made about 50 bucks alone because i intantly sold most of the shit i got. Waitfags never win, just look at the GPU bitcoin shit thats happening right now.
It's not that keys exploded in price, it's just that metal has gone down in worth, there's always new metal being introduced and there's really not a lot you can do with it. Buds were dropped as a currency because they had kind of outlived their purpose and they weren't very reliable, back when I was doing a stint of trading I hated buds because they were somewhat difficult to sell, at least for a decent price.
