It's less outright scary and more just unsettling and unconventional. You get to the end of this JRPG and your final boss isn't a big bad guy, it's not even a god, it's not the personification or embodiment of some concept like death or whatever... it's just this undefined entity that breaks loose from its container and basically envelops and warps the whole battlefield. You can attack it, but you have no way of telling if you're actually doing anything, and it just keeps attacking. And the game won't even tell you what the attack is about, it's just incomprehensible. And so all you can do is pray.
