you fucking what, Pokken and KI were both around 70k, no other game got above 10k. both Marvel and Pokken alone did nearly 5x as much as every other game combined, pic related.

Anyways, I did want Pokken, Skullgirls, or KI to win, since those are great games whose scenes deserve a boost, wheras Marvel is such a huge established brand that MvC3 didn't really need that one last year.

FGC side or Sup Forumseddit, I have a question as an observer of FGC communities. I am not familiar with how the FGC defines what a fighting game is, but why is smash usually frowned upon and isn't seen as a fighting game? It looks like it has about everything but the traditional health system and process of winning in fighting games (knock opponents off stage to win), you play in 2D against another opponent and you can do some combos.

You already stated it in your post. Knocking people off the stage instead of depleting a health bar. Aside from this Sakurai already intended the game to be a party game, and Melee needed plenty of changes just to put everybody on a level playing field like having only 5 stages and banning items

I love Guilty Gear, Blazblue, DBZF and Melee. This guy has no idea how big the difference is between traditional fighters and anime fighters then how similar anime fighters are to Melee in certain aspects.

Not to mention there are tournaments that are geared towards anime fighters completely. Watch those, tell your friends to watch them, maybe they'll gain popularity.

I wouldn't say it's any one mechanic that makes it not a fighting game. For example, if a Tekken game game out that only had ring outs with no health bars, but was otherwise mechnaically identical, that'd still be a fighting game, right?

It's sort of like defining life or defining porn or defining where the line is between a reptile and a bird: It's an aggregate thing, there's no 100% watertight set of criteria you can use and deifnitively say X or Y is or isn't a fighitng game; there's always going to be little exceptions; butt you can still have a rough list of traiits and see that smash doesn't meet a lot of them, and just by playing it you can tell it doesn't follow the formula to the same extent that other titles do, and every other FGC title has way more mechanical crossover with each other then smash does.

That being said, part of it IS just due to an anti-nintendo bias: You can see this with a lot of people dismissing pokken as "not a fighting game" even though unlike smash it's only barely more diffeerent from other FGC titles as they are from ea ch other and has all the core FGC mechanics and systems.

I don't really like the fgc. They all play the newest, flashiest trash. The only old games that get any play anymore are ST, 3s, and maybe vsav. 99% of the "community" are just streamfags. Then you have the "HYPEEEE!" focused people.

I have tried to play these games for quite some time now but I don't think this genre is for me. I only really like the old games that focused on positioning and execution. I want execution and spacing, not comeback mechanics and massive buffers.

At least I found some people to play ST offline with and they're teaching me how to play. I think I would quit fighting games entirely if I didn't have that.
