Honesty Time

Do you ever play games on easy mode Sup Forums?

yes sometimes

In recent memory, the only time I turned it down was the final mission in the Pinnacle Station DLC for Mass Effect. I tried a dozen times and just could not win, even on normal.

all the time
if there's no way to circumvent something, I git gud and do it legit
but I never pass an opportunity to break the game's rules, specially if it's through an ingame exploit and not by means of an external cheat device
no MP tho, I'm not going to enjoy my time at the expense of other people's fun

I used to play them on easy when I was younger because I was a pussy and liked feeling unstoppable.
Then I started playing on hardest because I decided I would git gud faster if games were more challenging, also bragging rights.
Now I play on normal because most devs don't fucking know how to balance difficulty and instead just generate enemies with more health.
Halo did it right, and so did Stalker. I can't think of any other game in recent history to get difficulty like they did.

If the games are notoriously shit, then yes. I don't wanna spend too long putting out effort on a game that the developers half-assed themselves.

If they're games that are of decent quality, then I aim for the highest difficulty every time.

Only in Touhou.

If I'm tired of the game and just want to finish it

I'm typically competent enough to handle at least normal.

For turn-based games, yes.

How much is it worth really turtling a little longer, spending more turns buffing and going through the same buff-debuff-hit cycle just because they made the enemies a little stronger?

I haven't played a game on easy ever since I was like 10

Lately no. Normal or higher for me.

I did as a kid, nowadays I usually play on normal unless it's a 2nd playthrough. Only games I still play on easy are RTS games because my brain's just too slow for them.

FPS games like BioShock always go on highest setting because I'm really good at them.

Right now I'm playing Risen and getting my ass beat 'cause I don't understand the combat.

I have a buddy that always plays games on easy and then complains about how easy they are and refuses to turn up the difficulty setting and I can't stand it

Why do you willingly associate with stupid people

based Patches knows how to deal with this shit.
while you're going through the world risking your ass facing all sorts of hellspawn, he just cheats his way through and effortlessly ends up at the finish line alongside you.
smarts are just as effective as strength.

Only if the default difficulty is unreasonable bullshit. That's not often though. Last game I turned it down was Sword of Berserk.

Only one I remember is Digimon World N0.
Literally the only difference is that you gain stats slower. Meaning you have to grind longer, and the game is already long enough as it is.

Not often, but I usually play on normal and it's hard enough for me (FPSs are probably the only exception where I play on hard). One time I remember having to play on easy was DA:O. I don't know what it was, but I was absolutely atrocious at that game. I ended up playing on babby difficulty and still had a bit of a challenge in combat.

Yes, when I get bored of the game and just want to finish it and move on.

Usually only in Bethesda games. Minus FO4, because Survival Mode proved that Bethesda has developed some semblance of an understanding on the direction of proper difficulty scaling. No cigar, but the right direction nevertheless.

Usually no but i turned the difficulty on prey down to easy from hard because i would never finish it on hard. I got bored of the combat 5 game hours ago

No. I've played enough video games that I don't need to. I usually play on Normal though.

In games where the difference from one difficulty to the next is how much you have to grind for xp, I always jump straight to easy.

Only after I've played on the hardest difficulty first. That's even if I can be bothered after beating it that is.

/thread

The only games that I felt were actually rewarding for playing on harder difficulties was Halo and Guitar Hero

Only Oblivion, because "Difficulty" should be labeled "How much time do you want to waste alternating blocking and hitting or kiting around with sissy arrows and magic?" I suppose they chose "Difficulty" because it was shorter, but it doesn't make it any more difficult.

If I just want to see the story and can't be bothered to give some effort into the game I usually pick easy.
It mostly depends on what kind of game it is and what kind of mood I'm in.

In a time where developers have moved on to proper difficulty scaling, for the most part at least, Bethesda still resorts to the age-old tactic of just pumping shit full of health while allowing it to 1-2 shot you while you whittle things down 2 damage per hit.

no, normally normal or hard. FPS games I play on hard, RTS games on normal as I want to stomp on my enemy
Recently I played shadow of war on normal but put it down to easy at the end as the fort seiges were just tiresome

yeah I normally put TES games on easy after half way through the game, because at first having long drawn out battles feel great, but after a while they get so boring

Mass Effect 2 for the same reason.

The last time I played on easy was in AlĂen Soldier. But that was because the game only has 2 difficulties: Supereasy and Superhard...

I tried playing ME2 on insanity recently. The fact that literally every single enemy has either shields or armor just made it more tedious than fun, and it basically meant that you had to bring Miranda with you to every mission.

No. Easy mode is for beginners.

There's nothing wrong with playing on Easy Mode in a singleplayer game, especially if you're new. Multiplayer though? Reach a consensus.

I played fire emblem echoes on 3ds on easy. didnt like the idea of losing characters forever

No, I only play on normal and sometimes hard. I think that is how to game is ment to be played

Easy mode is the only way to play videogames, everything else is too hard.

>3 difficulty options in RE Remake
>choose middle one because I always play normal difficulty on my first playthrough of a game
>finish game and get the trophy for finishing it on easy mode

I do pretty often. I'm old and tired and don't care about challenge, life is challenging enough sometimes and I just want to get lost in a distraction without worry

I played MGS2 on Very Easy and Easy as well as every other difficulty level because I collected all Dog Tags

Never.
If a game isn't worth playing on at least the normal difficulty, it's not worth playing at all.

permadeath in jrpgs is retarded
these are the types of games you'll be grinding your ass for dozens of hours, it just feels counterintuitive to waste all of that.
in the end you'll be doing twice as much grinding just to avoid it.

Only for stuff like CoD SP where the punishment of the hard difficulty only slows down the game and ruins the rush.
>speeding through World at war killling japs left and right while tanking all their bullets
True american hero

In general hard difficulties are overrated as fuck but "hardcore" player are used to it so they keep doing it their way

I feel like I'm one of the handful of people that wasn't caught out by that, although "normal" difficulty is harder than your average normal difficulty in many other games.

Sometime, to explore shit I missed.
I did on my second run of Prey
Since there is no NG+, why bother?

ye, im one of those button masher casuals. i might play on easy til my character is at a comfortable level then set it on normal or higher

Only in fighting games

Every single one. That way I can plow through the game faster and shitpost about it all day on Sup Forums while pretending that I'm an expert and you're all under me. Since so few games actually do anything different between difficulties, it's hard to catch me, and I get so many (You)'s it's ridiculous.

You're a fucking moron if you play on a higher difficulty.

>that one friend who insist on playing on the hardest difficulty
Such a tryhard, he doesn't enjoy it and never finish his games because of it.

I only go for higher difficulties if it's a game I really like because I know I'm kinda shit at games and will struggle so I can prolong the playtime and enjoy it more. Otherwise, I just don't care and just go for normal so I won't breeze through it too hard but won't waste time on pointless shit.

Old fps and shmups I do occasionally, but I always make sure to replay them until I can at least beat them on normal

Dark Souls should have an easy mode

It has one.
Just use 5% of what you call brain and it's easy mode.

I play cover shooters on easy and don't use cover because it's the only way to have fun with them

I only played Persona games on easy when I replay them.

this is necessary for nu-wolfenstein

I had to restart RE7 on easy mode instead because I'd always favored silent hill over resident evil and RE7 was my first title in the series. I also played it on console after borrowing a copy from a friend despite being more familiar with PC gaming, and to my unending shame I found it too difficult without turning it down a notch.
I would never publicly admit this without the safety blanket of anonymity.

As a kid I'd play RTS with the dumbest AI if I just wanted to fuck around.

nice blog

Only when achievement-whorin

never easier than the devs intended. Sometimes hard if it's a babby tier game

Entirely relevant OP's thread topic, get fucked.

Man fucking this. I really didn't like uncharted until I turned the difficulty to easy and just ran around punching dudes in the face and blowing peoples heads off with a shotgun. Made the experience way more enjoyable

Not anymore, Normal is new Easy for me now. When i was a kid, i usually enjoyed good story and characters more than gameplay, was playing on easy, with cheats/trainers. Now i don't, because if i don't try and win the game against it's odds with no leeway then what's the point in even playing instead of watching/reading. Trying and understanding the game's mechanics now seems like it's own fun, and if it's not, them normal all the way and prioritize other aspects over gameplay like old times.

Still blog posting, stay salty nigger tits

Fighting games and RTS, yes. It helps to learn the mechanics. Single player games, no, because that feels like cheating.

I know it's you Jacob

no i want the challenge

Honestly? Never.
I usually play with hard mode, so I get the ropes of the game faster. Then when I want to relax and have fun, I switch to normal.

I tried easy mode on medal of honor and company of heroes and I felt like I was just trying to fool myself into thinking I was doing anything interesting.

The only time I have ever had to switch a game to easy was SMT 4: Apocalypse for the fucking BULLSHIT final boss.

only when the game difficulty is just enemies are sponges and deal obscene amounts of damage or when i couldn't care less about the gameplay because its either bad or i finished the game enough times on normal.

Never ever EVER. If it's an RPG, or survival game, I play on hardest difficulty. Third person shooters and first person shooters, i play on second hardest difficulty.

No, infact I have this really annoying compulsion to play games on their hardest setting otherwise I feel like i'm missing out.

I blame playing a bunch of legit great difficultly romhacks as a kid and becoming addicted to that thrill of overcoming them.

latest game that comes to mind is persona 5
I've been playing SMT games since nocturne, but the fact that higher difficulties gimp your XP doesn't sit right with me.
I turn the difficulty up for bosses though.

When I feel like masochism, hard
When I feel like easy mode, normal
If normal is not easy mode, then easy
But usually I rather find a casual game like a flash game or something similar which is comfy and easy to beat when I am in that mood and beat it instead. Then when I am in the mood I go back and beat games in hard difficulty again.

>playing games on easy
>complaining about them being easy
how can anyone be this stupid?

I used to. I never play shit on the easiest setting anymore, it's dumb but it makes me self-conscious. Sometimes I play on normal, sometimes I play on hard. I usually don't ever choose ballbusting difficulty mode, though.

If a jRPG style game offers me a choice in difficulty I always pick the lowest. I'm playing those games because I want them to be comfy, I want to sit back relax, and enjoy a potentially good story.

I am blood related to someone like that
>plays games on easy
>complains about casuals
>thinks he's good at soulsborne games, yet won't fight a single boss without summoning another player first
The pain really comes out with monster hunter world
>can't dodge for shit or block for shit
>uses LS most of the time, interrupts constantly and gets 3 carted all of the time
>won't fight any monsters solo

You'd be surprised how hard some porn games are on Normal

My name is Tom.

I got a buddy like that too. Dude is really talented in playing certain games though but throw him in other games like the recent Monster Hunter World and he starts complaining and refusing to learn the game.

Obviously. I'm a wageslave already; I don't need my vidya to feel like work too. If I like the battle system and want a challenge, I turn the difficulty up; if not, Easy or Normal suit me just fine.

I sometimes turn it down to lowest difficulty halfway through in RPGs. I have a really low trash mob tolerance and if I keep running into copypasted filler fights over and over again, I'd rather just make sure they drop dead as fast as possible.
I always go for the hardest difficulty in action games but it's rarely done well. Many titles just straight up go for hp bloat and completely ruin all momentum.

Yeah. Mostly just action games or series I'm not familiar with though.

If I'm trying to git gud but I keep getting fucked over then yeah ill switch to easy for a bit.

I played the last part of Uncharted 4 on easy because I got sick of it and just wanted to watch the story so I could be done with it in a hurry.

Normal unless it's a genre like R.T.S where when fucking around on replays is best on easy. Although I could never beat the final mission for both Reign of Chaos and The Frozen Thrown on normal.

Same. You can do some cool stuff with the environment in fights but it got so tedious I wasn't enjoying it anymore.

Why didn't you just watch a Let's Play like a normal person?

I beat it on Insanity twice just for trophies and that was with the achievement bonuses at the start. If I replay it again, it will be veteran at best.

Mods ban this fuck please.

Not anymore.
Usually start on normal and go up through the rest if the game is good.

So many people playing on easy instead of just watching a walkthrough. I don't understand.

I played metal gear rising on easy because the parying mechanic was simplified only on that difficulty.

Too problematic and toxic for you, good to know redditor and tumblr.

I had already rented it. I liked it at first it just dragged on too long.
