Clickbait. Unless they plan to release an Ouya tier "console" it won't be ready for 2018.
Establishing yourself as a platform in the gaming industry these days is very hard with people being as attached to their current platform brands as they are.
If Google is making a gaming console it would either need to be very unique compared to other consoles or much better than every other console on the market to have any chance of succeeding.
That said, it's likely not true anyway as many of these rumours turn out to be complete bullshit.
> Establishing yourself as a platform in the gaming industry these days is very hard with people being as attached to their current platform brands as they are.
Get off vee every once in a while

>According to The Information, Google has been working on this for the past two years.
They could never in a million years pull it off. Ever heard of Google Daydream? Their console would look a little like this
>Always online
>Google account required
>Google Alexa shoehorned for no good reason
>Google Play is the store front
>Good hardware bet everything else is utterly botched, including the controller.
Haha, lolo no. I want good competitors, Google isn't it. I have more faith in the Atari Box than them, jive turkeys.
The new Steam machine
store.steampowered.com/sale/steam_machines
Console in this case means android box.
>Establishing yourself as a platform in the gaming industry these days is very hard
Unless your Google or Apple. Two of the most easily recognized name brands in the world would have no issues getting into the console industry.
>Google play machine
lol
>People outside of Sup Forums aren't attached to certain brands
I mean yeah they're not as vocal and retarded about it but most people do tend to have a favourite brand of console manufacturer that they and all of their friends buy each gen (barring massive fuck ups like Microsoft made with the Xbox One launch).
Apple Pippin all over again.
They're trying to stream via chromecast. Console rumor is bullshit though.
Sounds a lot like Microsoft
It will be like this. And people will buy it nonetheless
There is a Google console out already.
It was called Ouya. Enough said.
Well yeah, I guess they've got brand recognition, but not for gaming. They'd still have to offer something that no one else is for their console to succeed.
So instead of scanning a can of Mountain Dew (tm) you put in your Social Security number?
>streaming
When will they stop trying to push this?
Nobody benefits from this.
Unless my Google or Apple what?
>However, Google did just hire Phil Harrison, a man who spent 15 years as an executive in Sony's Playstation division and three years in Microsoft's Xbox division. Harrison reports to Google's SVP of Hardware, Rick Osterloh, which all suggests some kind of Google gaming hardware plan may be in the works.
>Implying I would financially support the Communist Jew
If this were true we'd already have g00gleboy memes
They could break into the console industry easily, but if they would actually have any success is another story.
In reality they're much more focused on developing spydrones and cyborg warmachines. But a console looks better on taxfiles.
The good Goygles.
Now I can get spyware in my house! I was really bummed that Xbone made their console as a non-spying piece of hardware, after shitlords didn't want to buy it. YOU DON'T DESERVE YOUR PRIVACY, SHITLORDS!
That is a nice image to use when talking about jews
>Google console wojack posting will become a thing
>game streaming service
DoA
>google doesn't have enough information on your subculture's occupants in order to sell it to 3rd parties
Shut up and get off my board, Elijah Goldstein
>Could have had a two horse race again
>lolnope here's some other American giant that wants to get in on it
Ehhh. I would be interested in this if I could play games like Cities Skylines on a small netbook.
Knowing google it is going to be a shitfest of adverts and P2W games... So yeah. Not excited at all.
You fuck of my board jew cocksucker
It would be cool if they could take google-earth and turn your neighborhood into a survival horror game.
>>Always online
It's a streaming service
For fucking Atari or Sega or some shit, sure.
Google and Amazon are probably the only two companies that could smash into the market like juggernauts without issue. They have basically infinite money, and incredible distribution networks and presences.
How they could pull it off:
>reveal at e3
>dump a ton of money into a couple Western AND Japanese exclusives
>dump money into getting recent big 3rd party releases ported to the system
>show off performance vs ps4/xbone
>$400-$500
What they will do:
>"download your favorite playstore apps and play on the big screen!"
>"stream your favorite games from our new in-house proprietary streaming service! Only $X/year for access to all your favorite games (*with 40ms of input delay)!"
>stupid fucking controller that ignores all progress made by existing manufacturers just to be different, only works wirelessly
You don't know anything, Sup Forums! It's gonna be a huge hit! Just like the Chromebook! You'll see...
Get off my site, r/the_donald immigrant
Ataribox/SteamBox tier shit?
>When will they stop trying to push this?
>Nobody benefits from this.
With pc component prices comparable to a nice used car soon netflix-like gaming might just be the future unfortunately
If they could do it without lag what is the downside?
>100% streaming service
>for amerimutt internet
So, Android games?
>complains about jews
>uses an image of known jew puppet
Weird
Google wants you to pay to get your information sold.
Conservatives still think they are on the right side.
Why would you want a two-horse race? If you think it would be Genesis v. SNES again you're wrong, Genesis was aggressive because they were breaking in. If one of the big three drops out, the two remaining giants wouldn't have to lift a finger because they already have guaranteed sales and would have less fears about being upstaged. We need someone to come in firing on all cylinders to whip the stagnant console market into shape and get the big three to stop being so shitty.
More like Oculus GO. Good hardware, garbage product.
With the Xbox One you don't need a Microsoft account to use it. With the Xbox One you at least get one of the best controllers of the gen. Main issue with Xbox One is exclusives and a bit of horsepower, otherwise it's a fine console. At it's current state it resembles a PS4 but a tad worse.
On the other hand Google and Facebook will just give you an awful experience to vaguely cover up the fact it exists solely to future proof their social networks.
who the fuck wants a console by google? it'll just deny you any options or forcibly shut down whenever it wants to
literally worst company
another bullshit rumor that has no basis on reality and Sup Forums will shit themselves over
>Google wants you to pay to get your information sold
Adding on to this, Sony and Microsoft just wants to sell you a product. Google wants you to be a part of their service, to regularly access your information, just like any other social media mega-company.
Proof? :^)
>no mods
>license issues can make games unavalible forever
>low image quality due to compression
Also good luck with the "without input lag" thing, you can not fool physical laws and cheat travel distance unless they place the game server next to your door, and even then the more devices are between you and the game the more lag there is.
yeah im sure the western game market will totally get better with larger conglomerates entering it
who added paid online first again?
They technically already did. Look up the Lenovo Mirage. It's hot garbage, though.
This is something Google will totally do. It would basically just be an Android phone that hooks up through HDMI. That's all they have to do. You think they wouldn't? They don't need to be a valid competitor, they just need to make a quick buck. Keep in mind Google fans somehow exist.
Why "streaming"?
I didn't mean to imply Google entering is good for consoles. It absolutely isn't. I just wouldn't praise the industry getting smaller. Sorry for the misunderstanding.
You have not talked to someone who plays video games in person for a long time.
Don't you know? It's the future for television and film so it's obviously the future for games as well.
And adding onto this, pic related. Google Daydream. Where the only form of input is a laser pointer. It's like it only exist to *cough* watch 360 video.
Game streaming makes no sense to me, as consumer of videogames.
What benefits TO ME, as a consumer, does streaming a game to have over digital download? It seems like a way for game developers to shoehorn even more anti-gamer practices in their business model.
>streaming
Low barrier to entry.
$50 Chromecast vs $300 console vs $500 PC
with tv and films, input lag and ping doesn't matter
>OnLive for the fucking 3rd time
just STOP streaming games is the WORST idea
what is wrong with streaming games?
Google made a market studio and noticed that the so called "gamers" love to be buttfucked by publishers, with stuff like Denuvo, always online or buying unfinished games full of DLC, so they'll double down on this.
It means they get to take away what limited rights you have, like owning the game or at least having it downloaded on your own hardware.
So whenever this happens, let me give you a quick PR lesson. This is what they call:
>The future of commerce.
What does it mean? It benefits them but not you, all while sounding cutting edge.
Companies don't base their decisions off what's good for the consumer, and never have. Streaming benefits publishers because, if streaming is the only way the game is playable at all, it's impossible to pirate it. Only thing you can do is personally reject it, and watch as less and less video games become available to you because everyone else is willing to go along with it and it becomes the industry standard. It will be sad at first, but then you realize that there are enough worthwhile games currently in existence to last the rest of your life and you become a content hermit on /vr/.
Search your heart, you know it to be true. Everyone is happily giving all personal information for free, so now they can pay to give it, because they can play Bejeweled or Candy crush saga from their TV.
There's going to be apologists as well after the release, defending the loss of privacy. They're going to say probably that "if you're not open about yourself and don't want your info sold, you're a criminal or a pedophile (or something) because you have something to hide.
>it becomes the industry standard
just like OnLive, right?
Or my favorite
>mega companies are people too
As if it's one person. And as I said, somehow, Google fans exist. Somehow.
Well the online pass didn't become industry standard at least.
>perfect content control
Yeah, why do they push this
>brother works at telecom support desk
>some old lady wants to cancel her subscription
>he offers her a deal, which is the usual procedure
>she is silent, then says shes been with the company for over 40 years through its iterations and she feels shocked nobody ever offered her anything until she was about to quit
>streaming games
>have to wait every night after 22h to even have the bandwidth to watch twitch or youtube in 480p
yeah no.
That whole thing is a scheme to excuse ISP's to fuck net neutrality in non American countries.
The cost of the infrastructure to support it.
The sheer amount of computational power needed to support video game streaming would be MASSIVE and the amount of bandwidth needed would be ridiculous.
>google console
Id buy it just to have the privilege of immediately debuting it at the bottom of my trash can as soon as the box arrived by fedex, not even unboxing it or anything
>dumb ass woman doesn't realize that to get something is to ask for it
Colour me suprised. Did she really think that she'd get better deals sitting on her ass and constantly getting offers for conpany to get less money from her?
Even then you literally cannot overcome the physical barrier of distance and travel time.
Yes. She probably joined back when it was a government owned company and companies used to reward people for continued patronage. It was some 80 year old lady, not some hip and fast 20 year old that bounces between providers every 2 years for their latest iphone
It's gonna be some Android/ChromeOS garbage so it's gonna be automatically trash and not even the normies will fall for it.
>they will data mine every console input to model your behavior
>you will be clustered together with thousand other people in some kind of psychological archetype
>report
>considering
Just as clickbaity.
Streaming is ok, I even had a decent experience with Onlive back in the day, surely nowadays it would perform even better
The difference there is that Valve is a lot better equipped for this, has hired up basically all the Linux driver dev talent, and has the relationships with third parties to get games on GNU/Linux.
They've actually been continually updating SteamOS, and there's persistent rumors about a next-gen Steam Machine built on a cheap AMD provided SOC instead of the expensive Intel+Nvidia solution used on the old systems.
I can't see Google succeeding with this unless they can coax some of that game-specific talent away from Valve which doesn't seem likely.
Google would probably be better off partnering with Valve than going on their own. If Valve's GNU/Linux gaming efforts on AMD64 really do grind to a halt because of Microsoft then Google's efforts at Android/Linux gaming on ARM don't stand much of a chance.
Google never stays committed to something so it will probably flop.
Source: every messaging service they have ever released failed miserably
retard
>Google account
That thing everyone has
>Alexa
Optional gimmick
>Google play store front
Something similar but not exact and it'll have more games
>Good hardware but hardware is botched
?? Also controllers are easy to make
They won't make one because they're too similar to Microsoft and they may as well profit off the Xbox unless it dies
My point is viewing these mega corporations as one person, as if the morality you'd expect from one person nowadays very little applies to the company as a whole in some way is utterly idiotic. These companies consist of the same CEOs that hire teams to look into your PMs for anything that can be sold, and sell them outside the site all while having a laugh about it.
A handful of employees that have some decency are not the company itself, nor does it act that way.
Please offer rumor source. They completely botched the Steam Machines potential. There really should've just been one that's fully upgradeable.
This post nailed it. Get that disgusting antifa kike shit the fuck out of my face. Google tries to be big brother often enough as is.
standarized android vidya hardware would be cool. imagine ecosystem like daydream, with clearly defined minimum hardware and controller, for android. all of the shield ports could get ported and shit. it's shame how hl2 android port exists and would run well even on older phones, but it's not maintained because nvidia only makes it unpopular.
we could get all of the ps2/3 era ports in our pockets for quick toilet vidya, like gta ports now. i'd love to have it
>Google Alexa
Can't tell if this is bait or you're actually retarded
I dont even recognize half those, although tons of people do use gmail, so at least that wasn't a failure.
>game streaming
When will these motherfuckers get it through their head that this is just not viable for a majority of the population. Their internet lines aren't nearly fast enough for this shit, except for turn based games and similar where input delay doesn't matter.
Whatever their voluntary wiretap program is called, who gives a fuck. If you have one you're retarded. Not even him.
