Why people think we're getting a new game over a port?

People are just assuming that if it was a port, we would already have that damn game. The fact that they are taking their time to announce it lead people to believe that maybe the devs are working on a new entry.

Why would smash get a new game if mario kart doesn't?

There's not much proof we're getting a port instead either. Though considering how trigger happy they've been with porting, I'd have expected something by now, so a new game entirely is possible.

If Smash was getting a port, wouldn't we have heard something by now? This IP is huge, they'd want it out as quickly as possible to push system sales.
