He was physically joining with the Lifestream as the Jenova cells and his will are too strong to be "killed". In Sephiroth's mind, he and the planet were becoming one entity, but in reality he and Jenova are more like parasites.

A better question is why does Cait Sith suddenly have a southern accent after this scene, even though it's still Reeve controlling him and Reeve clearly has no heavy accent at all? To further complicate this, why does he sound Scottish in Advent Children?

When Jenova is taking Spehiroth's form is she physically taking his from or is she using some psychic brainwashing to make it appear that the party is seeing Sephiroth? The way that everytime you meet "Sephiroth", he says some taunting bullshit and then the screen flashes and its suddenly Jenova fight makes me think it's just an illusory thing. Also, for what purpose does she take his form?

Also "Sephiroth"says things like "being here brings back memories" when in the Nibel mansion basement, why would Jenova have memories about that? She was in the test tube thing at the reactor at that point. Why does Vincent say "does Sephrioth know he was created 5 years ago?" that makes no sense. Was the translation just bungled completely and they haven't bothered to fix it for the re-releases?

Sephiroth has been dead for 5 years when that scene takes place. His lifeless corpse is frozen in the northern crater and everyone you meet are just other Jenova clones that look like Sephiroth.

Replay the game. They don't "look like Sephiroth." The physical copy of Sephiroth that you chase during all of disc 1 and part of disc 2 is literally the body of Jenova that escaped Shinra HQ, transformed (which is what Jenova excels at) to look like Sephiroth since it is under his control. The Sephiroth clones are clones in the sense that they were "created" the same way he was - an infusion of Jenova cells/mako into people. In this case the tattooed/black cloaked people/clones are the original people that lived in Nibelheim. After the fire Hojo swooped in and experimented on them all. On Disc 2 when Meteor is coming down go talk to the man in the back of the item store in Nibel. He even straight up says He and the people in Nibel are hired from Shinra HQ to protect the secret of the town.

She antagonises the group verbally and physically, leading them around the world so they can collect the Black Materia, and as soon as Cloud hands the materia over to her main puppet Sephiroth, she sets up the barrier and doesn't bother with that facade again.

Jenova took the form of Cetra when it first encountered them - it's entirely possible that it looked more Human like before it was sealed away by them. Sephiroth cut off her head and fell/was thrown into the reactor with it and the pieces you fight still have humanoid faces/titties if you look at the models.

Zack had a preemptive strike materia in his weapon in the flash back. Cloud picks up his sword and impales Sephiroth with it - he just got lucky that the materia was in there.
