I wonder why no one makes RTS of any sort in these moba, battle royale, fps days, open world days. don't think there are any other categories. no one who plays single player wants to "build" things, not like that
yeah, the genre is the problem
not the fact that they made a pile of shit
>make a classic RTS
>retards call it a MOBA even the game is a pure RTS where you control shitloads of units and is less of a MOBA than DoW2
>game dies because RTS "fans" have no interest in actually playing RTS games
>this sends a signal to all high-profile devs that making a RTS game with an actual budget is a risky affair due to RTS "fans" being retarded children who have no clue what they want
Enjoy your indie shovelware trash.
>actual rts mode released 2 months later
what did relic mean by this?
they made some pretty neat heroes like the terminator's.
ALL I WANTED WAS LAST STAND
WHY IS THAT SO HARD
IT WAS THE BEST THING ABOUT DOW II
For the numbers they're looking for the genre is a problem as well, not saying DOW3 wasnt a steaming wreck though. RTS attracts a very specific audience and they should have catered to that audience and would have done great if they had. Company of heroes 2 but 40k is all they had to do.
WHERE ARE YOU NOW SHILLS? I remember you shilling this shitshow before release, screeching about it not being a MOBA, how it wasn't gonna fail and it was going to be a success. Where are you now, faggots? I know you're here, reading this, know that I greatly enjoy this triumph over you, this game, and these devs.
This
Company of Heroes with base building and bigger numbers
all they had to do
But noooooo
They had to go and try to get into the esports meme and make a Moba-RTS hybrid
All I fucking wanted was company of heroes 2 but 40k. Nope, got a frankenstein abomination of a rts and moba instead. Its like trying to breed a cat and a dog you just cant fucking do it why even try what the fuck planet am I even on front flipping terminators pissing lascannons bouncy animations power cores and turrets and no cover and no kill animations no retreat and what the fucjkwjebrbjkambsg
>make highly anticipated sequel
>make it basically nothing like the previous game seeking to make it more "competitive" and esports
Par the course for this franchise.
I feel bad for the guy that worked on the audio for the game, it was excellent and really captures the 40k atmosphere. A shame everything else was fucking horse shit though.
>WHERE ARE YOU NOW SHILLS?
Support for the game has been pulled so I'm no longer on the payroll for that project.
>RTS attracts a very specific audience and they should have catered to that audience
There is no RTS audience, just like there is no real arena FPS audience.
99% of mid-to-late 90s crowd (when those genres peaked on PC) have either moved away from gaming completely or turned into casuals who don't have time or patience to dedicate to learning games.
And the majority of those remaining 1% have turned into women from all the soy consumption (that is, they're unable to judge new objectively, instead they dismiss everything new because it doesn't give them the same feeling or emotions those games did 20 years ago when they were teens).
Also can't wait for Relic to go completely under when their Win10 WinStore exclusive AoE game doesn't sell, because most sane people don't want to install malware on their PC just to play something.
Can't wait to see them transform AoEIV into ASSFAGGOTS.
I think what's an even bigger tragedy is the art team. As bad as the VA was and the questionable story and script, the art team completely nailed the feel of the world. Its a pity the rest let it down. I really loved Gorgutz' updated look here.
Even if the game is miraculously good its win10 windows store exclusive. Theyre signing the game's death warrant by limiting sales like that why the fuck would they do that???
I know that and I hate it. I can't think of a more retarded decision than that.
WHAT THE FUCK ARE THEY DOING
>Dawn of War 3 has less than 1000 people playing it a day
>Total War: Warhammer 2 has tens of thousands playing it every day
Fuck you for destroying Warhammer Fantasy GW.
Blood Bowl, the most niche of GW's Gaming IP's has more players than DOW3 regularly.
>that Volkmar
Every fucking time.
Wait, they were supporting the game until now?
>ONE BAD GAME FROM SHUTTING DOWN
That Necron tease at the end of the game seems kinda dumb now.
5 years
new studio
Maybe a publisher besides sega (Focus might step up)
Good Franchise Reboot.
Can it be done?
Please say yes Sup Forums ;_;
Necrons are also dead
It probably wouldnt be called dawn of war but it would definiteky be in the same vein as the previous games. Theres a steampunk WW1 RTS being made with destructible cover by an indie studio that unironically looks more like a relic game than DOW3 did
Please link me that game user, I would like some hope.
I dont really blame sega for this one
The lack of content? Yes, probably them pushing for release
But the design choices are all on Relic
Bet Phillip Boulle must be feeling pretty shit right now
>IT WAS THE BEST THING ABOUT DOW II
It was fun for a few rounds, at best. Tells a lot about the rest of the game.
I mentioned a new publisher not because of ill will against Sega but more that I expect them to drop the franchise or sell it off, due to poor performance.
Guy ditched Relic already and is working for Capcom. He's fine.
Really gives you more perspective on just how badly they fucked up DOW3.
God damn that looks amazing to be honest.
Their the ones who marketed is a MOBA you fuck.
Backflipping Angelos did not help either.
It was a mess from day one
>Third installment in the series
>Start with 1 faction less than the First one
Bravo Relic
The bayonet charging mech always gets me.
That looks really promising, maybe this little indie studio grows and become those who gives DoW a worthy reboot (or just another 40k rts, but the kleptomaniacial blood ravens will be missed).
What a grand future that would be.
Btw has anybody found any mention of a release date? Couldnt find any in the trailer or their website/FB but I might just be retarded.
Man I really should play Total Warhammer, especially since Tomb Kings were extremely my shit in the tabletop.
I miss him.
>what the hell is this now
>well that's pretty cool
>holy shit that's awesome
>PC, PS4 and XBOX one
Yeah, it's dead on arrival
I warned you fuckers years ago that Sega constantly fucks up but you ignored me.
You made your bed. Now lie in it.
>maybe this little indie studio grows and become those who gives DoW a worthy reboot
To be fair the setting looks better than 40k, I'd rather them keeping making games in it, or in some other original setting.
>classic MoH style single-player story driven FPS
A man can dream
...
Dawn of war needed to move towards Company of Heroes style game-play and visual aesthetic, not casual Starcraft
Playing the grand campaign as skellys at the moment, boy does your anus get touched.
Why is it so hard to just make an RTS. There aren't many made anymore, and the original DoW is certainly nostalgic for a large group of people.
>MOBAS ARE POPULAR
>QUICK COPY MOBAS IT'S WHAT THE PEOPLE WANT
Behold the general mindset that has ruined almost every fucking game series on the planet
just upgrading your hero was enough for me. the different combos and builds.
The campaign was a joke since all the missions we're the same just with a different voice over. I liked playing the first Dow and making your commander op as fuck
Thank you. Not exhaling can lead to suffocation.
Potato
this person talks out of their ass.
Nooooooo, *sobs* it wasn't supposed to be this way. IT WAS HER TURN DRUMPFY!
Holy Sigmar, keks were had at volkmars expense.
>waaah it's not on steam waaah
kill yourself
Its not the fact its "not on steam" its a fucking logistics problem. Who the fuck is going to buy that? You would have to have win 10, go to the windows store nobody knows about, be an RTS fan and pay fucking 60 dollars for it? And chances are if you are an rts fan you would have been burned by DOW3 and turned off of it to begin with
literally 99.99% of RTS fans are casuals who want to build comfy cities, amass large armies, and send them off to have an epic fight against another large
this is all an RTS needs to be successful
as long as they keep making gimmicky bullshit games they will keep flopping
starcraft is literally the only rts game that ever had a real tryhard community, ans even there the majority of the playerbase just played big game hunters against ai
esports and ladder and all that bullshit is a meme and any non-blizzard rts game that tries to pander to that crowd will fail miserably
its 20 fucking 18 literally everyone who is into pc gaming has windows 10 by now
windows 10 AND use the windows store
In other words, pirate only.
everyone who has windows 10 has windows store, its literally built in like internet explorer is
if a game is available on steam and origin/gog/windows store of course most people will get it on steam
if a game is exclusive to one of those then obviously people are going to get it from there, even if it's not steam
like how say mass effect 3 didnt flop despite being an origin exclusive
On one hand I can understand why they took the risk to jump into the MOBA genre, one of the most profitable videogame genres right now.
On the other hand I wish they had created a different 40k game for their MOBA experiment instead of killing the Dawn of War series, and that DoW3 were just a refined version of the first game (the thing people wanted to play).
The moba genre isn't profitable, 2-3 games are profitable.
And those 2-3 games earn more money than God itself. What if your MOBA steals the audience from one of those, or at least manages to claim a considerable amount of consumers for itself?
I'm not defending Relic, and seeing the Dawn of War series die like without fulfilling its full potential pains me to not end, but I can see the logic behind their actions.
Here's the thing, there is no good logic behind their actions. Simply making a moba doesn't guarantee you any money. In fact, it guarantees you failure. MOBA players are autistic. They only care about their 2-3 games and they won't move on from them. Which is why it's idiotic to try to capture that audience.
>There is no good logic behind their actions.
That's something we can agree. There is logic, but not a good one. One fueled by greed.
>Classic RTS
>Attack the enemy core
????????
Relic pretty much wanted their cake and eat it too, they wanted to please the Dawn of War 1 fans, please the Dawn of War 2 fans and also attract a wider audience by injecting Dawn of War 3 with some MoBA hormones. But, all those things are incompatible with one another, you could potentially please Dawn of War 1 and 2 fans at the same time, but then you don't get to attract a wider audience. The ironic thing is that Relic had an easy way to make a lot of money, but they fucked themselves over instead, they could've literally remade DoW 1 and it would've printed money, or they could've made DoW 2 again but now with bigger armies and base building, and it also would've printed money.
But they had go and chase the MoBA/Esports cancer for that delicious Korean money and they just stumbled down the stairs and broke their necks, and now their last hope is a Windows 10/Xbox One Exclusive Age of Empires 4, and i don't think any "relic fan" if there are any left are going to want to bite that bullet.
>slam dunking in terminator armor
I was even surprised that it was getting skins updates and stuff
The funniest thing about that, is that according to Relic those were intended to be paid DLC, but they had to give them away for free to try and keep people playing the game, unsurprisingly it didn't work.
Worst thing of all
The Elite system was the biggest offender.
When they kept updating it, even with cosmetical shit, it felt like a "fuck you" for everyone that stopped playing due to that
This picture pretty much explains completely why the game sucked ass.
Are you kidding? Aside from the intro cinematic, which was done by company independent of Relic, the art style of the actual game looks far too cartoony.
>no retreat button
>no unit preservation because call-ins would autowipe entire squads
>"basebuilding" consisted of forward placed reinforcement buildings like SM barracks and the rest of it was for teching, no barbed wire, emplacements, bunkers, sandbags or anything else non-basebuilding games like COH1/2/DOW2 had
>call-in cancer from COH2 was made into the entire meta of DOW3 only now instead of a Tiger coming out at 20minutes you now have a Weirdboy wiping squads 5min in
>DOW2/CoH1-2's excellent cover systems replaced with retarded capturable bubbles of cover
Yeah, taking out everything good from your previous games sure makes a classic RTS.
Yep, the Relic everyone seems to think of when referring to the game's developers doesn't actually exist. I refuse to believe that anyone who had any major design input into DoW 1 looked at DoW 3 and said: "yes, this is a good game to make".
>get me out of here
Everything went downhill after the Company of Heroes guy died in a car crash, he was probably the brains of the company.
The art was shit. It was way too clean. Warhammer 40k is supposed to feel grounded, dirty and grimy, it's supposed to invoke the feeling of an actual war, while set on a fantastical, exaggerated backdrop.
What we got with DoW 3 were tabletop miniatures placed in a Starcraft 2 editor.
dow3 has too many anti-strategy elements to be called an RTS, unit refunds draw out the game for no reason making you spend half the game building up because you need overwhelming force to take a base, elites on timers and a different resource from units means no choices, escalations literally why isn't the game supposed to escalate naturally as you capture points?
>tfw have to watch at 2x for it to look normal
This. Honestly what happened to the guys in charge of the art direction between Retribution and Dawn of War 3? All the previous 40k games Relic made looked, felt and sounded so right. The sound design and voice acting especially in Dawn of War 2 was so fucking good, and then you get to 3 and it's like playing generic sci-fi RTS #17.
Which game is cartoony?
40k is cartoony. Look at the models' proportions, FFS. Not even Muhreens, look at IG models.
>40k is cartoony
"Cartoony" is a nebulous term that doesn't describe anything, I think the term you're looking for is "exaggerated fantasy".
I assume by "models" you mean the miniatures, the miniatures look the way they look because they are like 2 inches tall and made with a toothpick, you can't really cram them full nitty gritty detail(and both GW and Forgeworld attempt to do that anyway), Warhammer 40k isn't "cartoony" even when you have literal clowns flying around, it's dark, gritty and dirty. Even Dawn of War 1 which had the unit models made to look like the miniatures still tried to emulate the dirty look of 40k Artwork, and both Dawn of War 2 and Space Marine completely ignored the miniature "cartoony" look because they didn't have to be constrained my technical limitations like polycounts and texture sizes like Dawn of War 1. Dawn of War 3 has no reason to look the way it looks other than to try and emulate the look of certain mobas.
Also i would necessarily call this "cartoony" either just because the proportions aren't "to scale" or whatever the term is.
Or this
Or this
The models are detailed. The proportions are just weird.
Exactly.
Speak for yourself Microfaggot
Mass effect 3 didnt flop because it was a multiplat and the conclusion to a trilogy (a bad one) you mongoloid
