Can we please drop the turn-based meme...

Can we please drop the turn-based meme? It has been proven time and time again that real time combat is objectively better.

How so? Please elaborate why

IT'S
NOT
FUCKING
TURN
BASED
THE
ENEMY
CAN
ATTACK
TWICE
WITH
ENOUGH SPEED
AS WELL
AS ME
FUCKING RETARDS
IT ATB
NOT TURN BASED

No lol.

It actually requires playing skill beyond the ability to strategize.

Real time combat actually requires skill and not just grinding/luck. Not to mention that very few turn based games actually sell well.

If anything that's been disproven by so many broken real time battle systems. Turn based, specifically ATB, is the tried and true battle system for a reason.

Will gladly take turn based over shitty mmo style combat.

All video game combat is more or less brainlet tier, it doesn't really matter whether it's turn based or real time

Certain games benefit from turn based and even random battles. FFVII being one of them. It could not have told such an epic story for its time being any other way.

Good thing it's not 1997 anymore

I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

> Persona
> Final Fantasy
> Dragons Question
> SMT

> "turn based games don't sell"

Compare that to the sales of games with real time combat

Turn based is great.
Atb on the other hand is fucking garbage. When people complain about how turn based game are slow and boring, that's because of those shitty ass atb games

Pokemon you dumbfucks

are you saying games like Tales or Xenoblade are more popular than anything I posted?

I don't think so.

AT LEAST POST A FUCKING TURN BASED GAME, NOT FUCKING FF7

LIKE GOLDEN SUN OR SOMETHING

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_video_games
How many of those are turn based?

shh kiddo, adults are talking RPGs here.

Time for your beddie-byes isn't it?

Atb is the same shit

>Genetics to give you proper reflexes
>Skill

>If it isn't one the best selling video games in the world it sells poorly.
Nice goalpost moving.

How many of those are:
>survival horror
>stealth
>RTS
>MMO
>fighting
>wrestling
>puzzle

See what I did there?

well pokemon is on the list a few times.

how many action RPGs are on there? Diablo 3?

7 turn based rpgs
vs 2 non turn based rpgs

You're not helping your argument here...

No it's not. you fucking retard. ATB literally has you waiting for a fucking bar to fill up to be able to do anything. Fuck that shit.
Turn based at worst has you wait through the animations, but at least you don't ever sit on your ass and do fucking nothing.

It completely removes reflexes and timing out of the equation.

Also one of the turn based rpg is still higher than either of the action based one so... not sure what you were trying to prove.

It's mechanically the exact same. ATB is turn-based with the speed stat carrying over, making you over time have more or less turns than the opponent instead of just determining turn order (FFX, FFtactics are like this)

There's no real-time battle system that can manage a party better than those that stop time, which is why so many real-time games have stupid braindead AI party members as you can't control them all at once. It's not objectively better.

>can we please stop all the games i am not even interested in please

Faggot.

>what is rts?

Then just remove party members. Not every game needs to be a waifu sim

A system in which you cannot control every unit at once, which is why the APM stat is so important, as this is what's gating you from managing your army.

then it's not a objectively better system if you can do something better in the other system.

>implying that's a bad thing

And it still does a lot of things worse. Not to mention that it's possible to control multiple party members in real time.

Excuse me, who are you? And why do you presume we, here, have the power to drop 'turn based'? Do you have a lot of money, or influence in the gaming world, do you have connections with some of the industries top and finest developers? Or are you perhaps, a tiny little whiny bitch who can't stand people liking what you don't like?

the turn-based combat used in many JRPG is the shallowest form of turn-based combat system, it's literally entry level for casulfags, play X-COM or Jagged Alliance if you want some real turn-based combat.

but Dragon's Dogma didn't sell great
neither did Kingdoms of Alamur

You're an idiot.

The same shit applies to FFX and that's as turn based as it gets.

>two games out thousands that sold well

>xcom
Only if you love getting fucked by acc and crit

>And it still does a lot of things worse
I wasn't arguing turn-based/pausing does everything better, I was arguing that real-time is not objectively better as there's one aspect it's worse at.

>turn based is shit because you rely on luck
>play xcom instead

It's only worse if you are a slow fuck.

I wasn't implying it's a bad thing. It's a fun limitation to improve at.

>objectively better.
No, just different

You cannot be faster than someone who can pause time.

And that's what turn based games lack. You learn the best strat and boom you're done.

I think you missed the point. The only people who say that real time does strategy/party management worse are the ones who do not have the apm required to utilise the system.

>you learn the best strat and boom you're done
Name one action game where this doesn't apply
Name 5 turn-based games where it does

That's a different argument entirely (turn-based being a definable / solvable problem)

Unless there's a upper floor to the management (like you have to wait for the game to input more actions and there's literally nothing you can interact / improve) there's always a higher APM to reach better management and as APM goes toward infinity the resulting management will be equal to pausing time.

>REEEEEEE stop making video games I don't like! And stop liking what I don't like!

you haven't played Persona 5 have you?

Dont be fucking stupid dude. If you are in a battle in ff7 and you put down the controller and leave for an hour what will you see when you come back?

Thats should be all you need to know

>Name one action game where this doesn't apply
Any action game that requires timing and dodging and doesn't have retarded design flaws
The majority of turn based strategy games
Final fantasy games (with a few exceptions)
Darkest dungeon
Xcom
Any turn based roguelike
The persona series
The vast majority are
While that is technically true, I don't see your point.
Literally the worst game you could have named

if you put the atb mode to wait, nothing.

my dad owns nintendo

>I don't like turn based, so nobody should

>name a game
>well you know in general
No, fuck off, name a game
Your general comment just proves my point anyway, what you're saying is that action games are nothing but dodge/roll > attack > repeat

What's the one best strategy in XCOM exactly? Or darkest dungeon?

>Attaque

>While that is technically true, I don't see your point.

The point I'm making is that it's always worse, not only worse if you do not have the apm required to utilize the system. That's because you can only equal both systems in terms of management when APM reaches infinity.

ATB is not true turn-based, it's more like a real-time hybrid. FFX is turn-based.

>posts a Wikipedia page that proves hurts his own argument

Stop relying on Rookies so much.

Neck yourself.

>proves hurts

Only if you keep the menu open.

As someone who loves rpgs I gotta say you are wrong, since SPD is one of the stats that dont change at all or change so little in the course of the game thats theres really no different if they were there. Only game I can remember where you could modify your Speed and it would affect the ATB are Final Fantasy VI and X.

And you need skill to time those dodges and attacks.
>XCOM
Grenadiers in general, especially combined with rangers and snipers
>DD
dots dots dots
How is taking skill out of the equation a good thing?

>There's no real-time battle system that can manage a party better than those that stop time
youtube.com/watch?v=ggE_TR0vzwg

It's not been proven even once, because it can't be.

The menu auto-opens whenever someone's action is ready right? I'm not seeing your point

But grinding makes Souls games a cakewalk. Faggot.

>the turn-based combat used in many JRPG is the shallowest form of turn-based combat system, it's literally entry level for casulfags
This. Turn based is fine, JRPG turn based combat is garbage.

There is nothing wrong with turn based, kill yourself.

>Barret not in back row

>implying no other real time games except for souls exist

>How is taking skill out of the equation a good thing?

That's like saying playing a FPS with your feet is better because it's harder and takes more skill.

You guys are hilarious and are arguing different points. There's just a difference between turn based and taking turns

He's got the cannonball thing equipped.

Meaning if you go in to select a spell or item or something, Wait will take effect. If don't select any action though enemies will keep attacking.

this

They will still attack even if the Attack/magic/item menu is open in wait mode? didn't know that

>turn-based
>posts ATB

there's no cannon ball at that point in the game tho. If look closely, you can see the distinctive nose of the Assault Gun.

At least in V, since I was just playing it and noticed. Though they tend to tweak how ATB works in each game.

You're right, my mistake.

You're gonna need to make that a food analogy

>Divinity 2,final fantasy 1-10,dragon quest,SMT(all series),Bravely default,Xcom,fire Emblem...
>bad
Now tell me How many good action RPG there are out there?

>real time combat is objectively better.
Not when Square Enix do it.

That's like saying eating soup with a fork is better because it's harder and takes more skill

>he doesn't eat soup with chopsticks

>any of those
>good
Also, we aren't just talking about rpgs

Eat my ass you dumb bastard
Every of those games have 90+ on metacritic

>90+ on metacritic

What stupid fucking criteria to judge things by. Don't be That Guy.

>Not when Square Enix do it.
>what is KH2FM
