Iced coffee.

DEMON FANG

DOUBLE DEMON FANG

Probably some fun times except for Zestiria which is the only one I've played and was utter garbage.

SONIC THRUST

symphonia is amazing be the rest are a massive dive in quality

Play Symphonia first so you can appreciate the porn better.

Which ones were they user?

That matters. They all differ in small ways.

Ok what the fuck user, I'm at work and I just poured myself an iced coffee, refreshed this page, and saw your comment.

Symphonia, Zestria and Berseria.

You’re predictable , do is your Steam password

PANCAKE TIME

i've heard this before. my fujo frined still liked it a lot. What so bad about it?

NEVER EVER

Trash.

the person you're replying to is lying. it's actually hot coffee

Symphonia had the worst battle system in the series.

The Tales games are made for a very particular crowd. You had better love the shit out of anime cliches

This user lied too, its cold coffee.

cliches are the magic that turn dreams into reality

Funnily enough I didn't find Symphonia, Vesperia, or Abyss nearly as overtly awful as Berseria was with cliche shit.

Actually it got to the point where I couldn't even continue playing Berseria.

you're in for a dreadfully slow beginning then amazing game and combat the rest of the game

*sip*

Disappointment, since Vesperia is the only good Tales game.

Just remember to treat Colette like shit so you can get Sheena or Presea's Flanoir scene as the game has a pretty small relationship system.

SWORD RAIN

>Sheena or Presea
>not Raine

Get a load of this pleb.

Gameplay wise, a Really limited and unbalanced combat system.

Progressionwise, retarded item and levelling system.

Storywise, the setting is broken in some ways and one of the party members is a mary sue.

I can elaborate on any of those. Symphonia and Berseria are better.

Abyss is close second.

How is Berseria lads?
I loved Symphonia to bits, finished it 3 times at least.
Loved Abyss too, to a bit less tough.
Played other games of this series too, but these two were outstanding in my opinion. Last one I played was Xillia(1).

Would I love Berseria?

It's not, is telling you straight OP it's hot coffee.

>Symphonia
It's OK
>Berseria
Good cast, mediocre to bad in everything else.
>Zestiria
A fucking dumpster fire.

>Giant, barren overworld areas.
>Oppressively boring dungeons that consist of nothing but drab, rectangular corridors and 90 degree turns filled with monsters. Optional dungeons pull from the same pool of assets mildly recolored.
>Limited combat system where doing a fusion dance with your partner and button mashing is the dominant strategy for nearly every encounter.
>Triforce hunt tier fetch quest placed right at the end where you collect gems by doing sidequests that were clearly repurposed to be part of the main quest.
>RNG riddled equipment skill system you can't even begin to influence until you have spent a decent amount of time in a given area.
>Bland, unlikable cast that gets almost no development throughout the entire game (it was cut).
>Fucked pacing where the beginning is an agonizing slog and the last third is panicked clusterfuck that throws scenes that are supposed to be emotionally punchy at you out of nowhere, using characters that have had almost no screentime.
>Themes are mishandled to the point of being almost complete nonsense.
>Most costumes that aren't recolors are DLC.

Honestly the game falls apart in such a spectacular way in the last third it almost made up for the rest of it.
Not quite though, so I can't recommend it to anybody. Most of the game is just fucking boring.

All of them, please. Not that user, but I was thinking about getting some tales games on PC.

Why don't people appreciate Phantasia any more? It's still fucking fantastic disincluding the GBA version obviously.

Symphonia girls power ranking

Raine > Sheena > Presea > Genis > Shit > Colette

Good desu, if you liked Abyss you'll enjoy Berseria but I recommend Zestiria if you can find it because you'll enjoy Berseria more imo

I almost forgot. Overworld battles means crippled environment design and constantly getting stuck on corners, bushes and trees.

I can see why your fujo friend liked it. The male cast is fujo bait.

You have to understand user, If he was around 16 when he first played ToS, like I did, than yeah, Sheena is the absolute perfect waifu in every degree. If I'd replay ToS I might choose somebody else, but Sheena was my first waifu

The only thing Berseria does well is having one of the most enjoyable JRPG casts probably ever. Literally everything else is mediocre. Especially the world and level design.

Sorry m8, maybe if I replay it some day I'll like it better.

>that power ranking
Sheena is the best imo, otherwise totally agree.
Well, maybe Colette is better than dogshit at least...

And yeah thanks mate, really looking forward to play a tales game again.

the only reason why I put Raine above Sheena is because I like christmas cakes. Sheena was my original choice on my first playthrough though. nice taste user

Never played Xillia 2, but if I do so, will I get more of best girl?
Seriously she was a highlight in Xillia 1

She's a party member now so yes.

a lackluster experience in comparison to what dolphin and a symphonia .iso give you for free

Seconded

>She's a party member now so yes.
ALL MY YES HOLY SHIT

But how is it as a Tales of game?
Main character looks kinda bland, but power armor stuff gets me dick diamonds.

Gameplay: The game is designed around fusing two characters together to become more powerful. These fusion forms are both extremely easy to enter, can be done indefinitely, and have movesets that are both really narrow and brokenly powerful, leading to buttonmashing as the best strategy. Yoy can't even really pick what moves you use, so you mash and hope for the best. Healing is also wonky and the AI is braindead, so you wind up with one character instead of a party.

Progression, levelling is slow and gets slower the higher your difficulty. You will get a new arte maybe once every five levels. Power is determined by item skills, basic buffs which are meant to be equipped to form certain patterns on the Skill Board that unlock more drastic changes. Except weapon skills are random and it's impossible to track what pattern does what, so you don't bother.

Story, the main Heroine Alisha who has a good design and storyline is abruptly removed from the game and replaced with Rose, who is a literal mass murderer yet qualifies as pure enough to interact with angels. The storyline then becomes about her and her life as a messiah, head of assassin guild, and world class merchant at the same time. Not to mention that the tension is hampered by the fact that literally only the party can see the monsters in the world.

Xillia 2 is a much better game than 1. That being said it reuses practically every single area and boss (optional content) from the first game so be prepared to do a lot of same stuff. Main character is very compelling actually.

zestria really made me feel like i was playing an anime. it had good characters, good quests, retarded "open world" like environments that made no sense and had almost nothing of value in them.

25% of the game you spend just running through these places. and most importantly, despite the story, it's not a Tales Of game. idk what it is, but it wasn't great. if you can get past its shortcomings, the story is really good.

Failed sandwiches and the best girl, one of the worst Tales games, and a Tales game that is pretty good, but the combat system and map hinder it.

Ludger is a great protagonist, despite being silent for dumb reasons. Prepare to suffer, though. It's probably the darkest storyline in the series.

The cast from xillia 1 are all there, but everyone except Gaius and Milla are plot unimportant.

>That being said it reuses practically every single area and boss

Thank fucking god I didn't play it right after I finished 1.
It had a weird aftertaste in my mouth. It wasn't a bad game by any means but sure as fuck it wasn't great either.

If that's Xillia 2's biggest problem, than I can forgive it, since I can hardly remember any area and boss if at all.

wow, the more you lads talk about it, the more interested I get, hell yes.
And well, fuck, Muzét is playable so that alone is worth a try for me.

I have literally never had a problem with Symphonia's combat system, even with the spell queue. It's very straightforward.

Berseria is a clusterfuck mash-fest with cookie-cutter characters and writing.

Prove me wrong.

They are, that's the point. People can more easily understand and identify with one-dimensional characters.

I think he was talking about all three of the Tales games on Steam not just symphonia. Going to take a wild guess and assume the worst one was Zestiria and the combat system comment was about Berseria.

If you can, try to get a newgame plus save file and enable the option to make Ludger talk more. It's worth it. I would also get one that improves xp gain, as the encounter rate is way too high.

Playing Ludger is amazing, though. He can switch between swords, hammer, and guns at will and has full movesets for all of them. Combined with the element system making variety do more damage and you get incredible depth and variety.

Xillia 2 is generally a tighter gameplay experience than Xillia despite reusing pretty much 90% of Xillia.
As the other anons said Ludger is surprisingly a nice protagonist with a good story, though extremely depressing.

My qualm with it is that it's still kind of easy and spammy compared to other games, it doesn't really take a lot of effort to beat, but the combat flows well and you can do some cool looking stuff, nothing as crazy as Vesperia or Hearts R, but still technical enough to feel rewarding.
Also, daily reminder that Papa Bisley was right.

>mediocre to bad in everything else.

It's the first time I've enjoyed the combat system since Symphonia.

You're right.

Also good ending > true ending and that's a FACT.

Combat system was Berseria, shit game was Zestiria, sandwiches and best girl are Symphonia.

>Also good ending > true ending and that's a FACT.
Does it even matter? Ludger always loses in a way, it's not fair.

i was one of the seemingly few people who thought xillia 1 was a good tales game. but xillia 2 is even better. main character is kinda bland because he's more of an avatar than other tales games. despite that, he's still a good protag. he's pretty fun to play as, you can swap weapons and the power armour is like turning your character into an OP summon spirit for a little while. it's good that you like muzet, her link ability is pretty awesome, she was a party mainstay for me

unfortunately, some of it will feel sort of "been there done that" because of all the reused areas and such from xillia 1. it's a lot like pokemon black 2 and white 2. luckily, the story doesn't feel expansion-tier and is more of a true sequel than what you'd expect (i thought it was just gonna be tox1: part 2). it can pretty much stand on its own

I got Tales of Symphonia Chronicles in PlayStation Store anime games sale.

Chronicles seems to contain 2 games and they seem to be good. All good games on sale where for PS3, so I undusted it and got these games for $20:

-Ni no Kuni
-Demon Souls
-Tales of Symphonia Chronicles

I wonder why there weren't good discounted PS4 games.

At least in the good ending, the healing can begin. Ludger is the richest and most powerful man in the world, has loyal and influential friends, and gets to impregnate his new waifu.

Chronicles contains Symphonia, a good game, and its sequel, which is universally considered trash.

You should've got The Legend of Heroes when it was on GOG's jRPG sale 2 weeks ago.

After my research, there seems to be no better jRPG on PC. So I got:

-The Legend of Heroes (4 games, but the second of the first trilogy and the new one are the best).
-Ys Series

As I see it, most people don't like Xillia because of the story and characters, which is understandeable, Alvin is especially bad.
Gameplay wise it's fine, the link system is...alright I guess, not a big fan of it but it has a decent function, the real problem is how none of the characters have really a lot of technique involved, despite all having some specific gimmicks.

Jude is probably the most boring brawler in the franchise, even Sophie was somehow more varied, he doesn't really have any specific combo flow to make him interesting, Milla is the same but as a magic knight, Alvin's charge gimmick is neat but again, he's still very straightforward for a hybrid character, Rowen's gimmick is really stupid and breaks his flow completely and magic spam is a horrible, horrible thing, Leia is...okay, she's the only character that has kind of engaging aerial gameplay, though that doesn't really amount to much in Xillia's case, then you have Elize as the token loli who's completely uninteresting gameplay wise and might as well not exist.

The problem with Tales games from Xillia onwards is that the character design in terms of gameplay is bad, previous games had always some particular technicality in combo flows and design that required a bit of effort in mastering a character, since all characters had some particular behaviour or gimmick, this is all the more evident in games like Rebirth, Destiny DC, Eternia, Vesperia or Hearts R.
But from Xillia onwards, character design really took a hit and now basically anyone plays the same, casters are now fighters who run on a different stat, and from Zesty onwards the games lost ALL verticality and became mindless spamfests, coupled with horrible, horrible character design where everyone plays basically the same outside of having slightly different ranges.

>my fujo frined still liked it a lot
That's because the two main leads are literal faggots

>symphonia
decent early 2000s jrpg with some button mashing
>zestiria
miserable style over substance dog shit
>berseria
fun anime as fuck game with some cool ideas and horrible character balance
