This may actually one of the few good business decisions Capcom has made:
>Believes the Switch won't make much sales so they put Ultra Street Fighter II to test the waters >Decides to release Monster Hunter World on PS4 and other powerful platforms hoping to attract a wider audience >No announcements of localizing MHXX anytime soon >tmw Larger western audience for MH solely due to World >tomw Switch game and hardware sales beat their expectations
Do you think they were holding out on releasing XX to the west purely because of World being used as an eventual booster in sales?
I was a little bit annoyed since I played Generations on the 3DS and had already planned to double dip for the extra content, but for now, I'm absolutely fine with World.
Zachary Phillips
I'm fine with World too, but it's nice to think of the possibility of XX coming overseas
Lincoln Murphy
I was hoping Double Cross would make it over. My 3DS is hacked but I wouldn't have had an issue with actually paying for XX if it was actually released. Oh well, their loss.
Sebastian Peterson
>le epic use of >le epic greentext >and le funny abbreviations
William Reyes
Hey it's still a possibility, and I still hold ground that World was a preemptive booster.
Kevin Fisher
The Switch is region free. Just order a Japanese copy.
Justin Foster
>le epic contrarianism >not knowing why I needed to summarize
Greentext sometimes has a purpose you faggot.
Robert Stewart
I was unimpressed after playing 3U and 4U demos on 3DS, but after World's success, XX on Switch intrigues me. Have to give the gameplay style another shot.
Colton Carter
Why did people expect MHXX to sell retardedly high numbers on Switch? Its an HD port of a 3DS game. In terms of sales it did about as well as MH3U HD and MHP3rd HD
Isaac Powell
>World is a booster Bitch, it's the main course. Fuck off with this "Booster" shit
Alexander Jenkins
I'm not saying World 's a side dish, I'm saying that the larger western audience it created could potentially boost sales in a possible future localization of XX
Zachary Scott
To be honest, I played the XX demo and thought it was OK but I really like how much of the old clunk they removed in World. I'd probably buy XX anyway but I doubt we'll ever get another one like it, it's definitely gonna be like World for each game from now on.
Jacob Lewis
>guys xx is coming! Switch is relevant Hey, you said it. Soyboy.
Dylan Ramirez
>le epic use of >"le epic" ironic shitposting
Logan Lopez
Yes and no
yes because it will show some interest in the west since it sold 6 millions copies+
no due to the fact that after MH World, playing XX will feel more like a downgrade which could turn away those that played world
Jose Butler
that's a fair point >soyboy >when I don't bother glorifying nintendo in this thread and only make note of recent sales numbers
Like pottery
Samuel Fisher
If MHW is truly the next step in MH series (which it clearly seems to be), I wouldn't be surprised if they did do a portable version of it for Switch (with graphics toned down obviously) because they'd sell gangbusters in Japan.
Double so if it's the G-Rank version.
Hudson Allen
Oh.
Well then your probobly right. I don't understand it but it seems like everyone plays MH now. I went to my nephew's like a week ago and jumped when I saw he was playing fucking Monster Hunter, so the west might want more.
Excuse my autism
Evan Brown
>remake the entire game just to run on switch when on ps4 it is the best selling in the series and potential to be the best seller of all of capcom
Jose Campbell
so basically a similar sentiment as I still find both thoughts fair
Isaac Torres
Capcom are a bunch of fools who don't listen to their largest fanbases.
Why o' Why would they never Port a game over seas? Their personal opinion about the success or worthwhileness of their time. It's like that asshole said "You think you want it, but you actually don't" fuck the context but it's the same damn thing.
The only way to rationalize it is they like money so MUCH that they don't want to spend the current moneys acquired by raking in Cash from the previous time they produced a game.
and the worst thing is it's just language. This wouldn't be a problem if games were released with multiple language options from the start.
You know I also thought they might start to smell the flowers and the grass if they kept losing money from that street wreck known as SFV- Bah who Am I kidding.
Christopher Wilson
I think its because the westerners who got in from world would buy it and feel angry/scammed that they got a very shitty mobile game that plays like ass. I mean Im assuming its like the 3ds/psp games not world.
Aaron Rogers
>implying Capcom wouldn't hire another studio to do the port job like Bethesda did for DOOM or Square Enix did for Deus Ex on Wii U
Also, refer to the previous statement of having the latest entry to be able to take on the go for local hunting and the Japanese will jump on board even harder than ever before.
This would apply to the West too who has seen a resurgence in taking Switch to college campuses to play local multiplayer with friends.
It's a win-win situation.
Sebastian Taylor
unfortunately this. As much as I love my switch world's style might be too harsh for this
Cameron Anderson
I'm loving MHW but I really want the switch version of XX so I have a portable MH game. I have the 3ds games but the 3ds kills my hands.
Colton Stewart
This assumes Capcom make smart decisions. How can retards have any faith in them?
Caleb Bennett
anybody who has been following MH since it began knows that It doesn't matter what console it was on, we Played it anyways, not because it wasn't My favorite but because it Looked like literal pixel vomit I couldn't complete the 3DS games, if they actually got put on the Switch it would be like they get the respectful release they deserve instead of bottling up ideas for the next game or in the Case of MHW splitting the monsters up into DLC and then releasing MHW+ the DLC monsters and crap and Slapping a Big Ol TWO on the label and call it a day. They game is half finished that's why the Ps4 and xbox versions came out first.
Charles Hall
I realize this comes off as bait, I enjoy old Mon Hun and Want XX. But the mobile games are low quality compared to the AAA polished World and legitimately feel like this would trigger someone jusy buying it cause they liked World. As again, the 3DS games have a looooot of problems and really are only gimped as such cause nips like handhelda, but westerners are not as into them and would rather the full experiance. Remember its a generstions port not a brand new game made to fully utilize switch hardware look at how shit MHU3 on Wii U was.
Caleb Martin
At the time, I didn't like Gen and not getting XX was OK with me. I thought Gen/XX was too over the top and flashy, even for MH, but now I just want it for some silly fun and portable MH. I love MHW and I would love some flashy MH on the side via XX. I believe they didn't release it so it won't eat into the sales of World.
Angel Rogers
I mean sure but a more complete version of MHW from say 2020 would be best of both worlds, and its not as janky.
Elijah Wood
>tmw >tomw literally what?
Isaac Miller
THANK YOU. It's a breath of fresh air, all these MHW kiddies don't seem to understand that this game has a lot more history behind it than just the 3DS/wiiU versions and then the transferring over to heavier hardware with the pc release.
Game used to be on PS2 guys. The only reason it switched around from different platform to platform was publishing funds and the smaller market for MH. Now There is no excuse people have been telling them to port their games to other parts of the world and instead we get SFV which is garbage.
Alexander Ross
there is a whole lot of qol improvements in world that would make going back to something that is structured in the classic way petty harsh. i can see them doing a portable world or including the switch in the future in someway since it has such a large user base now but i don’t know if a XX localization would be bolstered by world’s sales. if anything i can see people who only have a switch buying it but not much else.
Nathaniel Cook
Yeah. Monster Hunter Portable/Freedom is a thing they do. They remake entire console games to run on a portable device. The only reason they didn't for the last two is because they were already on the portable device in question.
Asher Sanchez
they sacrificed the japanese market so that the game would do well in the west. Japan prefers handhelds. Portable 3rd sold 5 million alone there, MH4 sold 4 million alone there, MH4G sold ~3.5 million alone there. All of those not counting digital sales. World will be lucky to pass 2 million retail in Japan. They ramped up development costs to only have their game do as well as the fifth installment spinoff game on 3DS(MHXX) that used PS2/Wii tier assests.
They lost a big market for them. MHW: Portable will get announced this year and release next year. Its bound to happen
Benjamin Ramirez
No one fucking cares. XX sucks ass.
Nolan Hughes
>importing a copy in 2018 You can just log in to the Japanese eShop and buy it there.
It would still be better to have a translated version.
Noah Thompson
that moment when that other moment when
Chase Parker
honestly its kinda shitty like yeah the idea was to make mh world sell more, but theres no fucking endgame and now i'm craving the switch game. (fuck mh on portables)
Dylan Bennett
They sacrificed braincells. they could have had both outcomes they are just retard nips.
Alexander White
>Largest fanbase XX Switch is one of the lowest selling entries in the entire series though, where most fans are in Japan.
World also destroyed any hopes of Switch being a primary MH machine.
Isaac Morales
Switch is a portable and if PS3 and Wii U were any indications its more a 3ds game on a big screen than an actual switch game.
John Smith
Psp was a powerful handheld that could handle console games. Switch is 2006 tier
Aaron Sanchez
I also posted a picture of ONO and commented on SFV, Monster Hunter as a Franchise is their largest player base. Besides SFV.
It's the lowest selling in the Series because they didn't bother porting it and gave it no press. Capcom Willingly kills Their Own Success.
Connor Morris
>Switch is a portable lol you cant fit a switch in your pocket mine is perma-docked
Asher Morgan
Context matters. Remember all the Switch shortages at launch? It was WAY worse in Japan, and everyone and their mother was trying to get one for Splatoon 2. Not to mention XX was already on 3DS and was cross compatible with the HD version so there was no reason to go out of your way for it.
Ryan Cox
Again, on ps4 it is the most successful
Jonathan Young
I literally read this post before MHW released and BTFO'd Sup Forums for everything they said. History really does repeat itself
Landon Gutierrez
Sup
Anthony Fisher
the Wii was much stronger than PSP yet they managed to port MHTri to it with downgrades but it was pretty much the same experience(without water fights obviously)
The Switch is stronger than the Wii U/PS3/360 and in terms of GFLOPS its 1/3 the power of an Xbox One. The power difference between the Wii and PSP was much larger than the Xbone/PS4/Switch. A port is possible
Adam Moore
Cant fit a 3ds or vita in a pocket either. Not sure your point.
Hunter Gonzalez
>XX Switch is one of the lowest selling entries in the entire series though Well, yeah. MHX and XX had already sold like 5 million copies in Japan when it came out and MHW announcement killed most of the interest on it.
Jack Robinson
A switch without the controllers attached is the size of a 3DS XL. Its still very portable.
Xavier Long
I have a cute little carrying case for me. I toss it the drawstring bag I bring when I go places that has stuff like my water bottle in it. Portable doesn't just mean playing it outside of a house though. I can't count the number of times I would bring DS/GBA/GB over to friends houses to play local co-op games. I've been doing the same with my Switch and it's been great. Portability also means I can just pop it out of the dock if I feel like playing in bed or anywhere that's not the living room. I don't know how this meme of "Portability = playing it on the bus or some shit" started but I blame Quentinposters.
Colton Perry
Yeah, the Wii was sporting Gamecube hardware. Motherfuckers think The PSP was stronger than the gamecube lol
Gabriel Perry
What the fuck are you on about? psp could not handle ps2, not even close, I mean p3p is the best you got. Switch is more powerful than Wii u. and significantly more powerful than xbox 360 and ps3. Considering Diminishing returns this is huge.
Connor Perry
>MHX and XX had already sold like 5 million copies in Japan They were the lowest selling in the series. Neither broke 1 million on launch I'm pretty sure, no way they came even close to 5 mil
Lincoln Cruz
pissed me off. Didn't buy world in retaliation, will wait for world ultimate to go on sale or grab it used
Nicholas Hughes
Um sweetie, the Switch is region free. Just import the jap version, if you played MH before you'll be fine. :)
Nathaniel Parker
I love how it implies that people actually have time to play games on the bus, just how fucking long is the bus ride anyways? I live in seattle and nobody I mean nobody is stupid enough to whip the switch out on a bus, Abdi would jack you so fast.
To me portability means I can play at my desk and crawl into bed when Im sleepy and continue my game, or when Im on a road trip, even then niggas get car sick.
Jordan Roberts
Switch is great for car trips. I took one up with me for a road trip this past New Years, friend said he wanted to drive so I just chilled in the back and played Xenoblade 2 or napped.
Joseph Russell
>>Decides to release Monster Hunter World on PS4 and other powerful platforms hoping to attract a wider audience The game was in development years before the Switch was announced
Logan Sullivan
>the Switch is region free Are all consoles made today region free? if not what's the purpose of region locking them? seems like it just annoys people who want to buy more software but can't due to region barrier.
Jaxson Stewart
I can't look down for very long but laying down in the back of the car with some snacks going like 70 on the highway is a dream.
Christopher Gutierrez
nobody in seattle takes the bus you fucking freak, its very different than say euro transit systems. Even the vsncouver skytrain, when I was a poor commutrr I used to play Fire emblem on my gameboy micro. But I digress, there are a billion other places to play, planes, and hotels come to mind.
Jeremiah Ross
Those buses are full, The light rail is full. Lots of Bodies even if I did ride the bus, I know there are people riding the bus right now. and I am nowhere near one.
and don't call others a freak when you're the one playing fire emblem on the smallest gameboy known to man. not sure what you're on about.
Ryan Young
Woah, It's almost like portability can be used in many different ways.
they didn't port XX because they didn't want people to get it confused with World, it wound up being a good business decision with the way things worked out
imagine if Capcom had released XX in the west >Switch is selling like fucking crazy >World comes out, does stupid well >Switch owners search "Monster Hunter" in the eShop and see XX >half of them go "wtf thats ugly im never buying that ugly ps2 game series" >other half buy it, get confused by the lack of tutorials and the non-streamlined grinding, vow to never buy from the series again >gigantic segment of the audience vows to never buy the series again because they got the games confused
Caleb Lewis
>Implying anyone would want to go through that hassle
Mason Allen
Planes and hotels are also a perfect example, thanks user. Seriously, anyone who says that portability is a useless feature either is creatively bankrupt, deliberately ignoring the pros to portability, or have never owned a handheld in their life. That's what we're trying to prove here user. The "hurrr u gonna play ur Switch on da bus LOL" shitposting is getting tired.
Jacob Cooper
>those busses are full. Yeah of homeless people drug addicts and other dregs that smell like piss. I'm told in yurop even middle-class people take transit, that its nice and comfy. Not like here where they reak of failure. Obviously switching homeless person bus 5 times isnt a situation where you want to pull a switch out.
Luke Sullivan
its literally not a hassle. takes like a minute to make a japanese account on your switch
Liam Diaz
After playing World for 90 hours and going back to another run at 4U, I'm kind of just wanting G-rank games. I can't get enough grind out of High rank only Monster Hunters.
I'm going to import XX if they don't announce it at E3.
Joshua Kelly
How likely do you think it is that Capcom is working on a Switch MonHun spinoff right now?
One that keeps the World QOL improvements but goes back to the simpler zone-based gameplay so it can actually run on the Switch?
Oliver Hernandez
Ok hun, just keep port begging on Twitter then :P
Juan Mitchell
Moonrunes are so simple, Speaking Japanese is even easier. That being said I have no desire to learn Kanji for fucking videogames.
Bentley Collins
Just hack your 3DS and install fanpatch. easy peasy.
Luke Jones
Japs deemed XX garbage, why do you gaijins care?
Oliver Watson
You must live a very sheltered life.
Carter Davis
you could have been playing it already with the english patch for like 10 months now
Liam Reed
Because I don't trust the Japanese and I want to garner my own opinion on the game.
Bentley Hughes
>Do you think they were holding out on releasing XX to the west purely because of World being used as an eventual booster in sales Maybe, but that makes too much sense for Capcom to have done it intentionally.
Who do you think will try to court Switch owners first before Capcom can get a proper MonHun on the Switch?
Toukiden, Soul Sacrifice, or God Eater? My money's on Toukiden.
Michael Foster
Very. Remember that the mainline and portable teams are separate. The mainline team got to work on World right after 4G, and the portable team recently worked on XX. Now that XX HD is out, they can work on the next portable game, which would end up being Portable World, which will most likely be on Switch since Capcom was satisfied with how their other Switch games performed.
Kayden Stewart
I swear slippery slope is a favorite amongst Sup Forums
Grayson Richardson
all of them are fucking garbage compared to MH i need the real fucking thing
Adam Turner
I admit, I loled
Benjamin Johnson
No thoughts, only disapointment.
Lincoln Thompson
Not too likely. Capcom invested a lot into World and are proably working on the PC port and DLC. While it's been successful (but I'm still waiting on actual sales numbers) It mush have cost much more to make and they want to get all they can out of it.
I think Monster Hunter's gameplay would work pretty well with Switch's hybrid gimmick, but I doubt we'll see any MonHun anytime soon.
Nathan Flores
This. Monster Hunter has never had a good clone not even once. It's Phantasy Star all over again. Nobody does the formula right even slightly.
Brody Bailey
World can't even run on the PS4, it's not happening.
William Jenkins
It was technically Monster Hunter's return to Consoles, while also being on a Handheld to retain the Japanese Audience. Call me whatever you want, but I hate the idea of being tied down to a home console when it comes to games like Monster Hunter, which is why I think World automatically sucks regardless of any QOL Changes it has. Enjoy your """new""" monsters and shitty weapons.
Ryder Gomez
The game barely runs on the base PS4, it sure as fuck won't be able to run on the Switch.
Gabriel Campbell
I just imported it. Who cares if it's in japanese, there's resources online translating literally everything in this game
Michael Martin
Gen/X is pure unfiltered garbage. MH4U>MHW>MHFU>MH3U>>>>MHX>Tri
